As much as I don't think Daniel Craig is not suitable to play bond, it look nonetheless very entertaining.

chedisme 07-03-2008 05:13 PM

looks pretty good. I hope its better then casino royal.

pitfield 07-03-2008 09:40 PM

silentm 07-04-2008 12:55 PM

for some reason i could never get really excited about a Bond movie. trailer is ... uh ok. but it doesn't knock me off my chair :)

philip 11-15-2008 02:47 PM

Saw it last night. I thought it was great. Much better than the reviews said it would be. If you don't like the first three minute intro. there's something wrong with you.

Partial nudity is back into the credits, I think they are building James a brick at a time from the beginning. If you remember movie No 1, Dr. No did not have any partial nudity in the credits. In Casino Royal there was no partial nudity in the credits. He was not a 00 in the beginning and you saw him get his DB4.

I think the critics have missed the point, James is developing his personality, he is developing his persona a piece at a time. He still does not know how he likes his martini. His environment and his friends are also being built a brick at a time. M does not trust him, he is hot headed, Felix and he are not friends yet, they only know each other and think they work sort of on the same side. Felix has much more character development in this movie.

This movie has a number of new firsts for James. I won't really mention them, so as not to spoil it for you. You need to think of Casino Royal as the first movie. Forget all the others he is not there yet. You see Q again for the second time, but I think he again has no lines. I suspect that will come in future movies. We almost get close to an "evil lair" but not quite. No I won't spoil it.

Since this movie is really just a continuation of Casino Royale, it ends it very well. That chapter closes, but the hints of new problems continue. The new enemy has been at least identified as the "global organization of terrorists we know nothing about". If you are a Bond fan you know it is SPECTRE, they just have not found out their name yet. They have been updated for today, much more sinister, secret and better connected than before.

All this and the critics say it has no plot. "It is just a Bond turned Borne." Are they just stupid, or did they never read any of the books. Bond over the years was turned into joke of him self. The books were never written as comedies.

Enjoy the movie for all the action, car crashes, explosions, and great fight scenes. But know lurking underneath it all is a developing plot, character development and Daniel Craig, doing an incredible job as young James, now ready to be the James Bond.

saw it last night, great action scenes, kinda stupid villain/ evil plot, bond had like 3 lines. Entertaining, but not quite as involved as casino royale.

The bad guy had incredible potential to play an amazing villain and they blew it. He has such an insane psychopath look to him which they shouldve used a little more.

pagani 11-15-2008 07:05 PM

I have just seen it and it think it's a very boring movie worst bond movie of all times.
And i dit not like it at all they have remove everything that makes bond fun.
Danial craig is way to serious to play bond they need more funnier actor.
They could have used the aston more

I didn't know an Alfa was as fast as a DBS...that's my only gripe. :-P

Awesome movie nonetheless!

styla21 11-15-2008 09:00 PM

Going to go see this soon.. Phillip, I enjoyed your writeup. Insightful and encouraging. I'm now looking forward to the movie.

T-Bird 11-16-2008 09:25 PM

I thought the movie was great and I'm pretty sure they revealed the name of the group as Quantum like 5 times at the Opera BTW. I thought they really didn't need to change anything about the movie it was just right. They are developing the characters.

Oh and the martini he has on the plane is Amazing!

HeilSvenska 11-16-2008 10:21 PM

It was a great movie. I enjoyed it. Haha. Like philip mentioned, I thought "hmmmmm, it's just not a Bond opening without the naked chicks" then they started to appear out of sand dunes. Hahahahahahhaha.

a007apl 11-17-2008 06:47 AM

I'm see the movie last weekend, much more action of the first (cassino Royale), but the story not good.

I saw it the other day and my thoughts are similar. The critics seem to forget that this is very much a revenge film so we can't expect the typical Bond personality in this one. I enjoyed it thoroughly and appreciate not having to suspend disbelief too often (this coming from someone who feels Die Another Day and its ridiculousness made for the worst Bond film of all time.)

Q was in the movie??? I know he's not featured, but I didn't catch that at all.

HeilSvenska 11-17-2008 07:27 PM

He wasn't.

RC45 11-17-2008 10:22 PM

Why does a decades old character and storyline still need character development? Shouldnt the character in the movie just be like an old friend and you sit down to enjoy a 100 minute thrill a minute movie?

I have not enjoyed any of the modern era Bond films - hopefully this one will be worth while as a Netflix in a couple months.

Exactly, almost too much action if there's such a thing. I enjoyed it, but I think overall Casino Royale was a better story. It almost seems like there was so much action in this one that it didn't give it enough time to develop.

I think he is probably the best Bond in years. Definitely very serious tone which is good. The older Bonds have gotten so goofy that it is a spoof on itself, like Philip said. Which is kind of sad.

They definitely set the series back on track with these two films, but nevertheless, Casino Royale was a better movie over all.

Definitely Recommended!

I think that's what the DVD sets of the old movies are for. I've really liked the last two bond movies much more than any of the Brosnan films (even Golden Eye). I'd like to pretend the Timothy Dalton ones didn't happen.

I like the pierce brosnan movies more.

philip 11-19-2008 05:54 PM

Did you like Pierce Brosnen driving his Aston Martin through the "ice hotel"?

Golden Eye was good. It was a new beginning, and got away from the sillyness of the Timothy Dalton movies, for example, remember Wayne Newton as the bad guy.

My favorite laughable scene is still Rodger Moore taking a bath and shaving He was seated with a cute little tray across the tub. From there he dispatched a dangerous snake with flaming spray aftershave.

No thanks, I'll take the new movies.

79TA 11-20-2008 04:57 AM

aww, I liked the Roger Moore movies and that scene, lol.

Your ice hotel example is exactly why I feel the reboot was appropriate though.
