RUF - Rumour, Legend and the Truth
I wanted to make this thread so I can post in a single place as much factual detail about RUF automobiles.
I have a pretty neat printed resource, and a fantastic human resource available and with permisison of the Porsche moderators will be updating the post as I get round to writing the stuff down.
In order to not violate copyright laws I am rewriting in my own style where appropiate - but "borrowing" the performance stats verbatim.
The data comes from an officially RUF sanctioned resource and is about as accurate as can be found.
Of course, as with all RUF cars, there are the RUF specs (as built and often tested) and then there are RUF customer-specific specs. If you arrive with the desire and an idea - and the money - RUF will prepare your car your way.
That is why if you ever see a "RUF" car, check to see if the VIN number if is a Porsche VIN (indicating a possible offical conversion) or a RUF VIN.
If ever you guys see a car, and are in doubt - send me the VIN number via PM and I will contact RUF and help verify if the car is indeed the real deal ;)

RUF BTR 3.4 was the first car to be RUF manufacturer VIN numbered. A RUF developed 5 speed transmission was another special concession to going quicker than a factory Porsche 911. The leightweight version was for the ture nut-jobs - with the "comfort version" having sall luxuies imaginable. The being matched to the aerodynacs of the forntal area - the widebody could manage to eek out 175mph while the narrow body was able to scream all the way to 190mph.

RUF BTR III the first RUF single turbo use the Motronic engine management system - resulting in not only more power, but smoother delivery as well more flexibilty and much improved fuel economy. There was also a slant nose version of the BTR III available. There wasd also for the first time available a new RUF 6 speed transmission as an option instead of the RUF 5 speed.In "stock" RUF form the significantly dirty aerodynamics of the wide trubo bodywork kept max speed at 180mph.

RUF BTR 3.8,the narrow body light weight car that helped celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 911. The interior was kept spartan to play into the lightweight theme - with leather wrapped racing seats the only luxury options provided. With the weight down and the power up and aided by the slippery narrow body, the BTR 3.8 could bahn storm to 62mph in 3.9 seconds, and did not stop pulling until it's 198mph top speed.

RUF BTR 2 was introduced soon after the 993 body style hit the streets. New RUF 18 inch wheels alowed carrying larger beefirer brakes and matched well to the RUF 6-speed gearing - allowing for a respectable 191mph terminal velocity.
