*The official Ferrari 599 GTB thread*

I thought that since there is official confirmation of the new flagship name, the Ferrari 599 GTB deserves its own thread :D

So, put all the latest news, pics, etc... HERE!

From the owners website:

With the release of the 599 GTB Ferrari is presenting its most powerful V12-engined production car of all time.

Amedeo Felisa, Ferrari’s Vice General Manager, officially announced the new model in occasion of the opening of the Detroit Motor Show on the 9th of January.

The new car is a concentration of Ferrari’s most innovative and technologically advanced engineering solutions applied to a mid-front engined two-seater coupé. The result is a new benchmark for performance, driver involvement and design.

The Ferrari 599 GTB boasts class-leading power thanks to its 5,999cc V12 - derived directly from the Enzo Ferrari supercar – which produces no less than 620hp at 7,600 rpm for a weight/power ratio of just 2.6 kg per horsepower.

Ferrari has adopted the latest evolution in its tried and tested all-aluminium construction technology for the body and chassis.

The unmistakable Pininfarina design gives the Ferrari 599 GTB aggressive yet elegant lines which are perfectly integrated with the advanced aerodynamic solutions adopted to reach the performance figures attainable.

This new model is the symbol of Ferrari’s production – the V12 berlinetta – and represents the latest interpretation of a theme that has seen such classics as the 250 GT, the 275 GTB, and the 365 GTB4.

The Ferrari 599 GTB replaces the last in that great line of berlinettas, the 575M Maranello, of which – together with the 550 Maranello introduced in 1996 - no fewer than 5,700 have been produced, a record for this type of model for the Prancing Horse.

The new car will be officially unveiled on the 28th of February 2006 at the Geneva Motor Show.

620*2.6 = 1612 kg. That's better than the 575 M. But the 612 Scaglietti was also announced as lighter than the 456 but is, inreality, heavier so ...
Anyway, the Murcielago will need and upgrade to stay in touch  From what we can read it should arrive for the Geneva Show too :P

Edit : I forgot to thank you for the info mate

559 GTB in Geneva = yg60m driving, flying, walking,... (whatever you like) to Geneva :D

Yeah, its probably a little optimistic that it weighs 1612 kg, but hell, they won't under-weigh it by more than 30 kg.... which means it weighs closer to 1642 kg... still not bad

In any case, this car will pose a real threat to the SLR, and thats saying something

Nice info!

The pics we have so far show some fussy styling IMO, but i don't mind it, i'm sure it will grow on me just as the Scaglietti 8)

620hp should alow it to keep in touch with the new Murcie, but i'm sure this will be a superior drive - the 550/575 has been a FR handling benchmark for 10 years now :good:

High res!!! :D

Do you notice (on the first pic) how the rear buttress is above the rear window, which is semi-circular??? Now THAT, my friends, is one hellofa detail!

Eww. . . those aren't official yet right? Feb 26th is the official launch date right?

So it'll be called the 599 GTB, what happened to the name of the car, Imola? Why not call it a 600?

1zippo1 01-09-2006 11:03 AM

Nice, high res pics. Thx for those and also for the info.

620hp... that can't be bad :D It's probably going to be very expensive I think. A lot more then the current 575.

Yup, the pics are official. Its not going to be the 600 Imola, because that was just the speculative name the press used for the new 599 GTB. Besides, I much perfer the name "599 GTB", than "600 Imola"...

The car will be announced at Detroit, but the unveiling will be at Geneva.

I'm totally not convinced by its styling. But that's the problem I had with al recently (i.e. max 9 years ago) released Ferraris. I don't like their styling from the start but they grow on me through time. But still I miss the sparkle that put me on fire when seeing such great Ferraris as the f355, Testarossa/512 etc. for the first time.

Mr Ferrari didn't like round numbers :D

Bigger, bigger ...

I will have to see it for real to make myself a proper opinion, ferrari's press pics aren't enough, the same happened with the scaglietti which I didn't really like at the beginning and then we all started seeing them on our roads ...

ferrari550 01-09-2006 05:48 PM

I do not like the rear end at all. I would rather the back in the spy pics while it was being tested, a bit more like the f430.

SFDMALEX 01-09-2006 06:44 PM

Its fucking horrid :(

Thanks for thread though, lets keep all the 599 info in here please, as you said ;)
