***FREE HOSTS FOR IMAGES POSTING*** read and contribute pls

Ok guys, enough is enough.. this days we keep seeing people posting with [img] w/o bothering to check if the pics works or not. I know, usually if you already opened the pic they will show for you beeing in the temporary internet files folder, but usually you can just open the pic01.jpg, copy url then thanks to the thumbnail you can figure out the other pics' names like pic02 and so on, and before opening them, you try to post their urls and see if they work... not to complicated right?

From now on, we won't tolerate red Xs anymore.. most BB IPs provide a small webspace for you to use, to buy a domain name and some webspace is incredibly cheap and hell, there are still free options around... so please, make the pics show, or simply DON'T POST!

__

So now, here is a list that we will try to keep up to date thanks also to YOUR contribution, with free hosting..

http://www.imageshack.us/ ---> (max 1024 kb and it automatically gives also a thumbnail code)... (thanks dani_d_mas for this one)

http://www.photobucket.com (registration required)
http://picserver.student.utwente.nl/ ---> Here you have to register and upload the pics everytime. If you delete them, they won't appear anymore. (thanks dani_d_mas for this one)

The following ones allow you to create albums, but not to direct link to pics, so don't bother, just post an url to the album and note that people have to register to check it:

http://www.imagestation.com/
http://www.webshots.com/
http://www.fotopic.net/register/ (250Mb - Free registration, only pics and no direct linking), thanks to Mannen

Just in case anyone missed my other post on this subject there is a zero tolerance policy in force on this one...if the pictures don't show then the post will be deleted.

There will of course be times when there are server hosting problems that are beyond your control but sticking to the more reliable hosting service's should keep this problem to a minimum.

Thanks dani, updating the first post now

muffinman2002 04-14-2004 02:36 PM

http://www.photoisland.com provides free image hosting

TT 04-14-2004 04:06 PM

Since maybe you already use it, can you tell us if http://www.photoisland.com allows remote linking? It seems very similar to webshots and imagestation...

PATo355 04-14-2004 05:56 PM

I use www.midwar.net

it works very good for me

TT 04-14-2004 07:03 PM

Thanks Pato, I forgot about midwar.. only problem with it: it's very slow.. your 30 kb signature always takes 3 or 4 seconds to load (and I have a 1.2 MBit DSL).
But I'm adding it of course!

muffinman2002 04-14-2004 09:21 PM

Yes photoisland does allow remote linking, however the picture can only be remote linked for a few weeks at a time. If a picture has to be linked for longer than that then you have to go back and generate another link for remote linking.

Chingachgook 04-15-2004 04:51 AM

www.altervista.org

Free hosting for images and other files. 100mb of space and 10Giga of band. You only have to create a simple homepage and put some link in order to share your stuff with other people

RC45 04-15-2004 05:02 AM

FYI - Tuan had to shut freepixhosting.com down due to severe abuse... and form the sounds of things, it won';t be back anytime soon.

stradale 04-15-2004 08:30 PM

http://www.uploadit.org is the one I use nowadays for my sig. After freepixhosting shut down I needed something else and this was the one that popped up in my head. It's likely someone named it already, because usually I wouldn't know where to find services like this.

However, I don't know whether you could use this one to post large pictures.

EDIT: files can be no bigger than 200kb and it has a maximum of 20 pics. If you pay 5 GBP a year, you get a lot more.

Anyone knows if there´s a problem when you upload the magazine scans in these pages, because of legal matters?

I upladed some scans in angelfire some time ago and they disabled my account, i´m almost sure it was because it´s copyrighted material.

TT 04-19-2004 03:14 PM

Have you already checked our magazine scans section? Quite a few already and no problems so far.

rob_e1 04-23-2004 12:37 PM

http://www.showoffyourcar.com/ allows remote linking and is free to register.

Fleischmann 04-23-2004 01:41 PM
