Overview of the car brands and their connections
I'm writing my thesis about the automotive industry and I came by this IMO very cool overview of the major players in de sector. I thought some of you might be interested in this overview.
http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/886...htaijs5.th.jpg I knew about 99% of these connections but I was surprised to see that hyundai en DaimlerChrysler were so closly linked. Is this correct?? And I think the connection between BMW & DaimlerChrysler is a mistake. |
yep IMO the link between bmw and D-C should be a thin one.
Very interesting chart btw and best of luck for your thesis! |

If I don't pass I can't look for a job and move in with my girlfriend. So I really hope I succeed. |
Finger crossed dude! :D
I'm exaclty on the same stage as you are (looking for a house with my gf): I just finished my studies in july, big weight off my shoulder!! Can't wait to get my first paycheck  I'm sure you'll get more than a 10, as automobiles are a hobby for you and spending time studying them shoudn't be too boring... btw what is exactly the name of your studies? |

Lovely graph, saved for future ;)
I do wonder about the BMW and Mercedes connection. I would love to see closer sharing of technology and business practices between the two companies. |

and Toyota does have a big share in Subaru: http://paultan.org/archives/2005/10/...res-to-toyota/ The big line between Daimlerchrysler & BMW should be a thin line: http://www.gizmag.co.uk/go/4553/ |

- a fat line without an arrow means that the brand is part of the main brand connected to it - a fat line with an arrow means one brand owns a large number of stocks of the other brand - a dotted line is a joint venture = a sort of alliance, mostly with asian companies - a thin line = an alliance |
That's from Car magazine. 2004.

gm doenst own kia, they own daewoo, which manufactures the chevy Aveo car for GM
|
Did I hear correctly on Top Gear that Rover went out of business, too?

with the article about it if possible! the weird thing is that in 2004 MG Rover still existed, so it should have been mentioned if it's that old, no? I've allready emailed the author of the article about his source but he doesn't reply :? And the crappy thing is that it's an article from a mens magazine, that I can't mention as a legitemate source in my thesis. |

This just shows that nowdays everybody is somehow related to somebody else. It's also interesting to see that Porsche seems to be the most independent company in this chart. |
