Driving at the Ring recently in a Ferrari 599 GTB (Porsche had it for appraisal), he found himself gradually gaining on a black car in the distance. Eventually he is a metre from the back bumper of what turns out to be another 599. Into one of the last corners, its driver makes a mistake and Röhrl dives up the inside. Later the black car draws alongside, its window winds down and the driver calls Röhrl a ‘lunatic’. Mind, Michael Schumacher never was a good loser…

Simply this is because Walter Rohrl is very used to the supercars testing and testing it; if it wasnt enough, probably he knows the Nurburgring a bit better than Kaiser, whereas a formula driving technique is another world compared to a street legal car or a supercar

For example, if there was a race between a IRC star (Anton Alen, for example), and Sebastien Loeb in a S2000, probably Anton Alen would win the race because it takes some time to get used to a car, to set up a car, and etcetera

Exact-o-mundo!

I think its impossible to be faster then WR on NS given each have the same car... even if some of the story is more drama then reality :)

How cool... 2 of the worlds greatest drivers ever heading down the Foxhole tailing each other hehe... wow :)

Somehow I'm just not convinced that Porsche would go that far to adapt the M5 body over their own chassis. It just doesn't make sense and I think BMW would oppose also. Maybe someone just wanted Porsche seats in his Beemer?

It isn't the only instance. Porsche also tested the Panamera early on with a Cayenne body, as well as with a Maserati Quattroporte Body ;)

Haha.. truly king of the 'Ring.

a "home" course advantage in driving makes a BIG difference.. and on a long track like the 'Ring it's like day and night. Hans Stuck and Walter Rohrl could take anyone on the 'Ring with their eyes closed and with slower cars.
