LOL why? everybody can see them when you cruise around, you know?

It's a smart thing to do when you post car pics online. In most magazines they never show a cars plates.

thats so thieves/stalkers don't do a lookup on the car and find out where that person lives and tries to steal their car or stalk them and kill or whatever

zevolv 01-12-2004 06:43 AM

steal the car yes stalk or kill them thats a little far

Smahatma 01-12-2004 06:46 AM

Thats because the magazine probably doesnt own the cars.

zevolv 01-12-2004 07:26 AM

they do it to the feature cars too, they replcae them with fake plates or just remove them it's probably legal reasons whatever it may be

I 100% agree with TT I have posted pictures of my cars with unmasked number plates onto the internet for the last 5 or so years without problem.

I am sure there is more chance of me being seen locally by a thief and they wouldn't even have to run my licence plate details to get my home address (which is very hard to do in the UK anyway) all they would have to do is follow me home. I suppose a bright yellow Lamborghini Diablo wouldn't be the type of car to stand out in the traffic though.

Unless you live in the batcave or something this is always going to be the greatest risk....being followed home and this has happened to me a few times...

zevolv 01-12-2004 07:33 AM

in the US people can get everything they need from your license plate number. It is possible to do the DMV switches like in Gone in 60 seconds but that probably doesn't happen too often or ever especially considering how poor some of the lower government security is.

Jabba 01-12-2004 07:42 AM

I can only quote from personal experience. I am also not really a paranoid type of person which is a good thing as I have posted pictures of my Ferrari and Lamborghini all over the internet. I can only think this is why owners of this type of car dont post their pictures though.

zevolv 01-12-2004 07:45 AM

hey I would post pics of mine if I had a Lambo but I would take off the plates thats just me though

TT 01-12-2004 07:50 AM

LOL it's only paranoia IMO... if a thief wants you car, he can see them while you drive in town, comon, this is bullshit... I always laugh when I see ppl covering their plates... What about the Enzo owners showing off their car with their nice custom plates? Aren't they scared? And same for Jabba :D
It's a complete nonsense :D but again, just me :D

Smahatma 01-12-2004 07:54 AM

long distance thiefs :p

(In the U.S.) if you have a plate number, you can lookup the name, address, social security and things like this of the owner. With the social security # especially and the other info, alot of bad things can be done like identity theft. Its just a chain of gaining more and more info which lead to them using your credit card, etc.
