Ferrari Enzo destroyed in Southern California

I'm sure that I was looking at an Enzo wreckage on the news this morning. The driver apparently lost control of it and crashed it. His condition is unknown. I'll update the report later.

too bad for the Enzo, I hope the driver is ok :(

NO!!

That looks really bad! Hope nothing serious happened to the driver!

The driver only suffers minor injury due to the airbag.

Ouch! The ending wasn't as bad as I feared when I saw the pics though. The back of the car and engine are ripped clean off. A Porsche CGT with more or less the same damage in the Netherlands recently killed one or both occupants (can't remember exactly). Shame about the car!

EDIT: I found it. Perhaps it has been posted before. Link
The woman who drove it, drove it for a test drive someone offered her. She was severely injured. The passenger only suffered minor injuries.

ouch, luckly he survived and didnt injured anyone else...

TNT 02-21-2006 01:33 PM

the Ferrari gods were watching over that poor driver...

Ferrari Crashes, Closes Part Of P.C.H.

(CBS) MALIBU, Calif. A section of Pacific Coast Highway was closed Tuesday after a single-vehicle car crash, officials said.

Paramedics were sent to P.C.H. at Decker Road at 6:15 a.m., Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Ron Haralson said.

The vehicle, a Ferrari, may have been traveling at nearly 200 mph and was badly damaged. One person suffered a minor injury and was treated at the scene.

The cause of the accident was under investigation, according to a deputy at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station, who said the motorist's whereabouts were unknown.
so... 'may have been' ??? such published speculation ought to wait til the investigation is complete.... just because it can doesnt mean it did.

thankfully the driver is fine... the CF tub remained quite intact this time... which is definately good for the driver

^I agree, that is some irresponsible reporting. @ 200mph, the damage will definitely be more severe :fist:

Too bad for the car, but i'm glad the driver was alright - i would probably not bother to ring up my insurance company, as your premium is very likely to go through the roof!

I reckon this is a feature built into all of the mid-engined CF-tub cars - ensuring the passenger cell remains intact whilst ditching the (potentially explosive) engine/fuel area :bah:

Could well be. It would also absorb energy from the crash, like with F1 cars.

Yeas - something like that, as the rear detaches - quite clever in fact, but a PITA to repair, i'm sure :P

i have a feeling that its not that the rear detaches, as much as it absorbs a lot of kinetic energy as it shatters (mabey like an F1's nose/side pods)

bmagni 02-21-2006 02:52 PM

seems the wheels arent stock, they look like chromed ones. specially in the last pic
