"Lambo-Racing finishes 2nd in its class
Untermerzbach, 19.06.2006 —— The top motorsport event of the year started with a shock for the Lambo-Racing team in the first practice session on Friday morning.

After only one timed lap the practice session for drivers Stephan Rösler, Andreas Kitzerow, Georg Silbermayr and Florian Scholze was over – the Lamborghini Gallardo GTR had to re-turn to the pit on a tow-hook probably due to damage to the connecting rod bearing.

Despite a spare engine that was flown in by helicopter the team stayed without any timed lap in the second practice session. “We wanted to make use of every chance to save time so that at least in the second practice session we would be able to perform a functional test af-ter the engine change. Unfortunately that didn’t quite work out”, explained a slightly disap-pointed Stephan Rösler.

Such the 24-hour race on Saturday started with problems in the first lap already. “The oil pressure light signalled a defect and we didn’t want to risk anything after the shock of the previous day”, said Andreas Kitzerow. After a repair brake the Lamborghini rejoined the race as the last of 220 cars with four laps behind.

An exciting catch-up race led the Lamborghini Gallardo GTR right across the entire scoring list. Highly concentrated the drivers pushed the Lamborghini, which ran without any troubles at all, reliably and without incidents through the night. Two hours before the end of the race however there seemed to be something wrong with the front axle drive shaft which made the team tremble until the very end.

During the 24-hour race, Stephan Rösler, Andreas Kitzerow, Georg Silbermayr and Florian Scholze jumped more than 200 positions to an excellent 20th place in the overall classifica-tion and finished in second place in class SP8 with Lambo-Racing leaving prominent teams of its class behind. “We are happy and proud to have beaten, as a private team, the works teams of Aston Martin and Maserati with our Gallardo GTR that had been perfectly prepared by Lingmann Motorsport,” so Stephan Rösler and Andreas Kitzerow in unison.

With this success Lambo-Racing is the very first team in the history of the 24h-hour race that has successfully run a Lamborghini Gallardo."

We will start at the forthcoming weekend in the context of the "29. RCM DMV Grenzlandrennen". Beside Stephan Rösler, Berndt Haidt, an experienced driver particularly in the Sennebogen Porsche, will drive our Gallardo GTR.

30. DMV 250-Mile Race

Lambo-Racing with Kurt Thiim as Co-Starter
Bad luck again in the 2nd successive race

After the Lambo-Racing team was forced to drop out of the previous race - where they held a promising position - due to tyre damage, the Gallardo once again became a victim of the pe-riphery. In the last round, with the finishing line in sight, the left rear wheel worked loose in the approach to the section “Schwalbenschwanz”. Former DTM pilot Kurt Thiim drove the last stint: “Suddenly there was a ‘bang’ and the wheel stuck out from the rear wing halfway across. Thank heavens I was able to keep the Gallardo on the road. I am sorry for the boys at Lambo-Racing that we were out so close to the finish. They together with Herbert Ling-mann transferred a serial road car to a very good racing car. The set-up is good, however as to the rear axis a better solution must be found.”

The orange Gallardo started the race from the 7th row in the starting grid and in the begin-ning all went well. Stephan Rösler could move up several places and was positioned in the top ten during his two stints. The 3rd stint, driven by Kurt Thiim, at first went smoothly except for a spin which meant a slight loss in time: “When accelerating out of a curve, I spinned. I stopped in such an unlucky position that more than four minutes passed before the marshals could move the car back into the driving direction.“ In the end the team was forced to give up the race due to the reasons already mentioned above.

A slightly disappointed Stephan Rösler summarised the racing day: “It’s a pity that we were stopped in the last two races due to a periphery problem. This time it’s particularly hard be-cause it happened just three kilometres before the finish line. The Gallardo itself once again proved to be absolutely reliable and never caused any problems, just like in all the previous races, except for the ABS which failed us today. Of course, we would have liked to finish the race with Kurt.”

Until the next race Lambo-Racing, in cooperation with the operational team Lingmann Mo-torsport, will try to solve the rear axis problem mentioned by Kurt Thiim and hopefully start the next race with more luck on their side.
