How many of u, actually use snow tires in winter
so how many of u, uses snow tire during winter??
i never used winter tire untill this winter, before i always had all season. today, in toronto, we had about 10 cm of snow, and i finally got a chance to try out my Viking Snowtech tires.. (rated #2 on consumer report). the difference is really big between snow and all season,, i think the most noticeble differnece was the stoping behaviour... with all seaon, i always slide out, and side way, but winter tires i was fine for thoses of u dont have snow tires,, i think u should get it,, it reall make u feel alot safer while driving |
Getting them for my new wheels soon
|
Snow tires make a world of difference; i have at least 300% more grip since i got a more agressive all season tire.
ive driven on snow tires before, and those are easily another 100% improvement in grip while cornering, accellerating, and stopping... of course, i do have 4x4  |
What's winter? ;)

Alas, even snow tires with studs won't help that car when there's a foot of snow on the ground. I have a Jeep for those days, and pretty much any other day when the weather is bad. |
Speaking of which, I did some roll-on tests this afternoon...
Holly wheelspin batman, active handling on 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th... and 4th to 5th    |
I don't use snow tires, mainly becoz when it snow in Toronto, traffic gets so bad that the average speed approaches zero anyways LOL.
|
in the winter I become a subway kinda man :D
no snowtires for me waste of money IMO |
once it snows, everyone just drive like grandpa and grandma.. and alot of stupid driver, turn to even more stupider when snow is there
the traffic is so bad when snow hit the first day,,, for examp,le,, took me over 1 horu to get to schol toda,, usually, 15-20 mins.. my god |
without snow tires i can't get up my driveway! they really do make a world of difference!
|
I agree, snow tires make a huge difference. i drive an acrua rsx and the snow tires mean a great deal to me in the winter. i recommend everyone to get a set.

My supposed "high performance all season" Yokohama AVID H4s tires don't have much grip at all in the snow or ice, but I still use them year-round. You only have to drive about 10 feet before the entire tire surface is covered in snow since they're so sticky, and there goes all of your grip :? I think being low profile doesn't help much either since there's no give in the tire at all.
Not all bad, though, I learned the joy of lift-off oversteer the other day when the roads were a bit slick downtown :D |
Snow tires are way better than any mixed-all-season-whatsoever-tire !!
I drove over a mountain road this WE, the street was covered partly with pressed snow or iced parts and the winter tires saved my day..... several critical situations, some sliding ...fun on one side but risky at the other  |
i guess here in switzerland it's recommended to mount winter tires. it's cold during a few month and the grip is much better with 'em. And because i'll go snowboarding a lot it's a must for me. otherwise i would have to take public transports to go there....

I read a comparison test recently .... let me see if I can find it... edit: no, can't find it anymore The one and only snow chain is the one made of "chains" http://www.oeamtc.at/netautor/html_s...edspurmaxi.jpg all other models like this one with a fix mounted adapter http://www.oeamtc.at/netautor/html_s...entraxsteg.jpg got a "not recommended" or worse the one you're talking about, the "sock" http://www.oeamtc.at/netautor/html_s...s/autosock.jpg got a very bad result, they say the friction coefficient in driving direction is increased, but sideways they are not good at all. So it helps to get away, but I wouldn't drive on mountain roads with them  |
