Thinking about picking up a wheel this weekend so I can get my GT Legends/GT4 on.. I have a feeling I'll be slower in GT4 with the wheel vs. dual shock too.

How do the pedals feel?

TopGearNL 03-27-2007 10:36 AM

LOL!

I need a wheel too, how much was it?

Vansquish 03-27-2007 01:29 PM

The pedals aren't force-feedback sadly, but the brake and accelerator have somewhat different weighting and travel. I would suggest that you go try and buy the DFP online or possibly in a store. You shouldn't have to pay more than $105 or so at this point, and if you're willing to wait a little bit, you could order it online from something like Amazon for less than $100.

I've got the DFP and the Logitech Formula Force (which was the big deal back when GT3 came out), and the DFP is far and away a better unit. I'm looking forward to getting the G25, but I'll be waiting a bit so that the prices drop a bit.

I'm going to see if I can find a place where I can buy a G25 setup and try it out for the week.. The G25 pedals aren't force feed back either are they?

Vansquish 03-27-2007 01:37 PM

Nope...don't believe so, but I'm really looking forward to getting it. The next few months are going to be hell on my pocketbook. PS3, LCD HDTV, GTHD, G25, probably a racing seat as well, though I may well just build my own rig.

I paid 109€ at the local supermarket. I might have saved 10€ with mail order, but very few places had them in stock. It's so old product already.
Had a look around and they are about 140 Euros around here and pretty rare..

Might look for a different one, but not alot of options.. :bah:

look at the JWGT4 league... the guys with the steering wheels on NS are 10s faster then the best guy with dual shock ;)

I won't be updating my sim rig anytime soon, too many other prioraties.

Not necessarily true...before I had anything to clamp my wheel to, I was running the NS with the pad, not even the analog stick. I think it's possible (if you can work out the progressive touch on the pad, then it's damned near as effective as the wheel) to run all but identical times using the wheel and joypad. That being said, the DFP is way more fun.

ah, well... most of the fast runners were using the DFP :P

maybe its that the car doesn't twitch with the ds2, but there is more progressive brakes/wheel control with the DFP... a trade off perhaps?

Vansquish 03-27-2007 06:14 PM

^^ yeah, I think that's pretty much accurate :-)

I have driven NS with NSX-R too, but I don't remember the time. I should try it with the wheel and DS2 some day.

You're right, the twitching isn't as bad with the DS2, but also the corrective steering is easies and faster, because only move of the thumb is enough. Brake control is a lot better with DFP. Even though it's analogic in DS2, I have never really learned to brake with it.

IMO, the only time the wheel isn't good enough for corrective steering is when you are completely spun out, which you shouldn't be anyway :P

the brakes..... set brake pressure settings to 3, that improved my laptimes a lot w/out locking up :)

Hmm...when I first got GT4 I did what I'd always done in GT-games and set the brake pressure to its maximum. When I drove it suddenly became obvious that in GT4 this wasn't going to work, as the wheels were much more prone to lockup. So...I actually run my cars all at 11-13 depending on car, tire, weight etc...It always seemed like having it much below that kept the car from stopping so effectively, but I haven't really given it a concerted effort at lower brake pressure...have to give it a shot.

dutchmasterflex 04-10-2007 09:52 AM

Well, picked up a DFP from best buy to try out.. First thoughts, it's definitely harder!

Real fun though, but with all my cars setup for over steer in GT4, the DFP just isn't fast enough to counter steer with its ridiculous 900 degree lock.

Any idea if the G25 wheel is supposed to be "faster"?

RC45 04-10-2007 09:58 AM

No - neither the G25 nor DFP are as "fast" as the Dual Shock sticks... but then again, neither is a car in real life ;)

dutchmasterflex 04-10-2007 10:01 AM

Well, obviously the dual shocks will be faster lock to lock.

But does the G25 have faster motors than the DFP?

I feel like its impossible to put full opposite lock using the DFP in GT4.

Oh yea, and how do you get 900 degrees in GT Legends. It seems my wheel is stuck at 200 degrees when I play GTL.
