What is up with Toyota?

The once all-mighty Japanese firm seems to be crumbling like a badly-stacked deck of cards.....

It seems to be one disaster story after another, now it seems the big Lexus off-roader is liable to roll-over.

Did they spunk that much money on their F1 charade leaving them without proper funds for vehicle development?

I'm confused by Toyota personally, if not actually a big fan of their products bar some older (now considered "rice" mobiles), and their very capable Land Cruiser :?:

Toyota (and other Japanese makes) are the product of marketing campaigns, not perfect products.

They are no different to any other automaker really - and as far as SUV's rolling over, I always thought it was just common sense -- even as a kid learnign to drive in the early 1980's I knew if you yank the wheel on a Land Cruiser or VW Kombi it would rollover.

Simple physics really.

What has happened is that stupid has caught up with all the moron drivers of the world.

Or is the threat of a law-suit much stronger than it was compared to the good-old days when our cars did't have traction control to save us from ourselves

From the BBC article:

Consumer Reports, a popular US magazine, said it had judged the Lexus GX 460 a "Don't Buy: Safety Risk" because of a problem experienced during its standard emergency-handling tests.
"When pushed to its limits on our track's handling course, the rear of the GX we bought slid out until the vehicle was almost sideways before the electronic stability control system was able to regain control," it said.

Heck, I want a go!

I agree with RC45. It is a competition against the best of the best in the automotive industry. And Toyota is still in the market. They can still produce car, SUV, trucks, auto parts, and Toyota truck parts that are really promising.

please stop digging up old threads... maybe make a new topic instead??
