Chevrolet Corvette

Being an american and all, I have always liked Corvettes. What do you guys think? My favorites are the Stingray's. I will have a Corvette one day!

gimme a Z06 or C5 anyday

bein in the uk means the corvettes practically dont exist so the older ones i have never seen here or read up on,but the new ones like the ZO6 and C5,they are fantastic and fast cars

JN396 06-10-2003 07:42 PM

great pix 666Fast; my goal is to one day (when I'm too old to ride my bikes) is to afford a 57, 78 pace car (my birth year) and a stocker z06. What can i say; i'm a hot head for a v8. They can all be next to my future 360 modena... lol

666fast 06-10-2003 07:43 PM

The Z06 and C5 vettes are damn cool too. I like them. But I favor the Z06 over a normal C5, they are damn quick.

The 50s Corvettes are beautiful, a friends dad has a 59. Deep deep purple, looks black from a distance. It is is drag car, 572ci
Makes 900bhp! The last time he took it to the track he ran 9 something. Could be faster if it wasn't for the tires spinning so damn much.

d100x 06-11-2003 05:37 PM

The best thing about Vettes is that you can drive them in the winter. We have a lot of snow here, and also a very unusual number of Corvette drivers, and many don't store them in garages. I think it's because they're made of fiberglass; Chevrolet will do just about anything to make it lighter. :)

666fast 06-11-2003 05:53 PM

LOL! i wouldn't drive one in the Winter! Rear wheel drive with plenty of power could make for a heartbreaking accident. It would be fun in a parking lot or something though.

SilviaS15Cwest 06-11-2003 06:10 PM

I wouldnt drive it in the winter either. Fiberglass is cool cause you could leave your Corvette in a hail storm and not worry about it. No door dings either.

there's always the possiblity of the glass cracking and sometimes that can be a pain in the ass sometimes (like w/a fiberglass surfboard...ding repairs are a bitch sometimes)

Flawless 06-11-2003 10:15 PM

I cant imagine why people garage a car that is meant to be driven. I couldnt imagine driving a beater when you have a corvette garaged.

Flawless 06-11-2003 10:18 PM

now a lambo or ferrari, I know why it shoud be garaged.

666fast 06-11-2003 10:52 PM

I don't think it would be all that difficult. It might only be a Corvette but it's not like I want it to get wrecked. If I had one I certainly wouldn't drive it in the winter. I live in Minnesota, lots of snow and ice, which means lots of sand and salt on the roads. That will rust anything out.

novass 06-12-2003 02:34 AM

those last 2 pics are gettin me all hot and bothered...i love engines so big the hood cant contain them!

666fast 06-12-2003 02:39 PM

Heh, that is why I made sure to post them! With an engine like that, you know there is a fair amount of power under the hood.

for us euro guys it`s Porsche, for you guys from the states it`s Corvette, i think we can put it ike this.
i`d never take a C5 or a Z06 instead of a 996TT or GT2!

gis 06-12-2003 04:04 PM

i wud choose a c5 or zo6 over a 996tt,but i wouldnt choose them over a gt2

Exactly, a GT2 is just too damn sweet.

toprpm 06-12-2003 05:57 PM

zo6

i did drive the Zo6. It is fast ..what i didn't like the handling and the cournring ..it was scary ..to drive fast ...i would use it as a drag race but not in high ways ...NO WAY

maalox 06-15-2003 12:34 AM

I respect Corvettes but have never really been interested in them (like if I had a choice between a Corvette and like an M3, I'd take the M3 despite the performance deficit). I dunno, the looks/big V8 don't really do it for me. (There's a z06 up the street, so I have definitely had a long hard look at it! I have to admit that it has incredible presence in real life.)

maalox 06-15-2003 12:34 AM

edit: double post... my internet is hardcore messed right now

troskap 06-18-2003 01:09 PM

Well, given that this is a Corvette post, you all might find this site interesting. Here's a guy in the Northwest US that bought himself a C3, and pretty much went nuts on it.

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-6/222218/16mod.jpg

The car is a FREAK. Twin-screw supercharger, reworked engine, etc., etc. Supposedly the car is putting out around 1000+ horses at the wheels, and 900 ft-lbs of torque at 3,800 rpm! Don't want to even think of how unwieldy the beast is, but it looks good ... can't imagine how much money this guy spent, either. Unfortunately, he took down the videos he had at the site, but it sounded and looked rather impressive, at least.

He has more pics and running commentary on his site:

P.S. Sorry about the photo size! Still trying to get a grip on what's the best size to post that shot with :)

while i was at the weekly "Pre 79 and special interest" car show which takes place at the mall parking lot, some guy actually had a hand build replica of the batmobile.. you should have seen the things, next week i'll be sure to take pics and hopefully he's back.. there were quite a few vettes, and a nice yellow C5 supercharged convertible putting out 510rwhp.... i also saw a Nova SS, couple of challengers, a charger, lots of old mustangs.. one guy tried to some in with his 89 camaro, and they told him to leave, so on his way out he decided to nearly hit a couple of cars as he wildly did a burnt out and went back to his cave

i've heard that they changed the tail lights on the new one and the headlights weren't flip-ups anymore :?:

Heh, it looks as if you heard wrong. LOL!

I've seen that twin supercharged vette before, I downloaded the vids a long time ago, be glad they aren't there to waste your time. They sucked. Who wants to download at 2kb/sec for 50 MB only to get a 2 minute video? The vids weren't compressed at all methinks.

maalox 06-18-2003 07:31 PM

Man, that C6 looks like an evolutionary change, not a major shakeup. I think the Corvette needs a bit more than some new taillights and headlights in order to catch up looks-wise. I hope they don't pull an NSX.

Oh boy is that ever wrong. Vettes have a plastic skin. Underneath that skin is lots of metal, they rust out in places you cant see. One point in particular is the A-Pillar a t-bone shaped boxed steel piece that connects to the frame and holds the windshield and is the door hinge post that the door hangs from. when these rust the doors fall off no fooling. Also the windshield will crack as a sign of rusting in the early phases, it lets the window frame twist too much and the glass breaks.

They are not light for there method of building. A early model camaro is much lighter than a vette.

Even has the ugly Indy 500 Pace car, it's the purple and yellow one.

crochico 06-30-2003 06:10 PM

it's a shame they only added some stripes, a carbon fiber hood, and an improved suspension.. it would be nice to get a bit more punch from the "commemorative edition".. is the paint and 11 pounds weight savings worth the $5,000? probably not, but it's gonna have some nostalgic value in the future

it also seems to share the same "racing stripes".. nice touch

666fast 06-30-2003 06:23 PM

Yea, it looks good, but it looks horrible in purple and yellow. Worst paint combination ever.

It does suck that GM only gave it so little for a special edition Z06. But that is GM for you, all they gave the 50th Aniversary vette was a special color. It's a cool color though. But you would think for a car with so much heritage in American culture, they could have done a better job.
The only good thing this new Z06 does is make more Z06's available.

Here are some pics of the 50th Anniversary Vette. I can't believe people paid $60,000 for a special color. At least the color looks great.
