mazda3 or honda civic?

my parents are planning to buy a new car and have narrowed it down to the mazda 3 or honda civic. I'm pushing for the mazda 3, what do you guys think?

oscargarza88 02-13-2004 10:55 PM

mmmm....
hard choice
i think thy r qute the same but i like the mazda more because there r too many civics

The359 02-13-2004 10:58 PM

3 sedan or 3 hatchback? I'd take the hatchback in a heartbeat.

davmac 02-13-2004 11:17 PM

the sedan

altezza 02-14-2004 12:05 AM

go for the Mazda 3 for sure
Honda Civic will have a major change in 2 years time

oldsnail 02-14-2004 12:16 AM

if it is the Honda CIVIC SIR(canada) hatch or SI hatch(us), i would take the little civic hatch..

oldsnail 02-14-2004 12:25 AM

double post.

davmac 02-14-2004 12:43 AM

thanks for the input

I drive an SI and I say go with the Mazda 3--- so there you have it! The civic is fun and the color of my car is very unique - but there are too many civics. The 3 has got good reviews and has some extra needed power.

But if your looking for a car that wont give you any problems at all -- Civic SI/SIR

stracing 02-14-2004 01:56 AM

get the mazda with the 2.3 litre engine if you can

Matty 02-14-2004 04:29 AM

my sister has a civic hatch first one in victoria ausssie

Toronto 02-14-2004 01:53 PM

the mazda 3 has 49% the same parts as the focus and s40, so there are 2 more cars to add to your list.

nchs09 02-14-2004 02:11 PM

mazda, u would be surprised *asi was* hat these cars are great

Vansquish 02-14-2004 03:00 PM

Actuall, the Mazda 3 shares a lot of its componentry with the NEW generation Focus (which hasn't yet been released) and the NEW Volvo S40/V40 which have only just been released. I would not recommend going for the previous versions of those cars, as they will soon be phased out, though for North America the Focus is only undergoing a restyle and will retain the old chassis/componentry for several more years.

My dad was in charge of the Mazda 6 for a while, it's a wonderful car, you might want to consider looking at the 2.3L version of that as well. If not, then the Mazda 3 is definetely a better choice than the Civic. Smoother engine, nicer looking, better handling, more space, better crashworthiness, you really can't go wrong with it.

BADMIHAI 02-14-2004 03:49 PM

Get the Mazda 3. It looks/feels way better than the Civic. I hate the Civic! Honda makes BORING cars!

davmac 02-14-2004 09:23 PM

thanks for the help guys, i think we're gonna go for the mazda 3, and the dealer said he was gonna let me drive the rx-8 tomorrow!!! :D

BMW-M-Power 02-15-2004 08:07 AM

hmmm.. hard one. I'd go for a Civic and then style it a bit, but you can do the same with the Mazda. Civic is also getting a major face lift or a completly new design in about 2 years time.

callen 02-15-2004 08:49 AM

the mazda three is the best new eco car and best new sports coupe in canada. i think the public has spoken davmac! i also chose the new three sedan. spend a little extra to make it look nice( i saw one in TO last month, loaded right up on 17s from the factory..it really did look good!)

AlienDB7 02-15-2004 10:03 AM

Looks like people really like the mazda 3, I've been seeing lots of them around in vancouver lately. Most people seem to prefer the sedan more for some reason. Personally, I don't like the 3 sedan, the proportion is kinda wrong with the short hood (don't kill me for saying that!). The hatchback is a much better proportioned car though. I like it ;)

davmac 02-15-2004 01:36 PM

I agree, the hatch is a much nicer lookin car, but its more expensive so that's probably why more people choose the sedan.

the civic hatch had a face lift this year, mainly new headlights..

ferrari550 02-15-2004 03:11 PM

I would take the mazda where it is new, the civic on the other hand is a decent car because honda makes it but i think it is getting restyled soon, not sure when, but soon.
but if i had to choose now it would be the mazda(unless you are getting the SIR)

Garretts_turbo 02-16-2004 02:18 PM

just adding to what people above have said. there are a lot of civics on the roads and the mazda seems like a more unique car anyway. nice looking and not as generic as a civic is.

kawa22 02-16-2004 02:57 PM

Civic!!!!

i_hate_the_enzo 02-16-2004 08:26 PM

it depends what kind of civic, if you are talking about a new one, than hell no, go with the mazda. especially if you are planning to mod it out at all. toyota screwed themselves because they made a name for the civic and then changed it, and by changing it, i mean they wired it differently, its way underpowered, and if you put a non-stock part on it, its not gonna function right, because the computer wont recognize it, and it takes extra long to adapt now, because toyota went and messed with a good thing

final verdict: mazda 3

FYI, honda makes civic, not toyota.

abarth 02-17-2004 09:11 AM

choose the mazda 3 with the new 1.6 tdi PSA\Ford it's a very good engine

DanHenderson 02-19-2004 08:23 AM

I'll throw in for the Mazda 3s as well. It's a compact that you can get a 6 Disc in dash changer, Xenons, Navigation, and about an extra 20 lb-ft of tq at 500 RPM less. Plus the current Civic will never have as good looking an interior as the 3 (plus the warranty in the US is better).
