F2004 innovations

Has anyone heard about Ferrari's racer this year. Apparently its going to have a pretty radical looking front wing. Anyone have any info on that? Ferrari has also been a little tight lipped about the innovations on the F2004, unlike previous years where they seem to be very open about it. Remember the innovative gearbox and engine packaging of the f2002?

veilsidebr 01-24-2004 05:14 AM

Yeah i just would like to see it too. Ferrari sad that everyone will be surprised. I guess they have copyed the front wing of Williams. But , let´s wait and see for it.

:D

scubywrxr 01-24-2004 07:49 AM

I've heard some strange rumours too, let's hope they come up with something beautiful and fast......

Apac102 01-24-2004 06:24 PM

Its kinda weird. Everyone used to follow Ferrari and their designs...but now it looks as if ferrari is following BMW

I dont think many peopel seem to be thinking stright. Just because Williams released theirs first doesnt mean ferrari didnt develop their own. And if you knew much, you'd also know Renault tested a wing design likt that a few seasons ago. Besides, we dont even know what the ferrari will look like, only that it will suprise.

Let's wait and see the press launch is on the 26 of january in a couple of hours.

The trouble with F1 is that most of the really cool techy innovations are under the bodywork - a place rarely seen outside of the pits and factory :(

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd buy a book about the guts of an F1 car. Probably have to be an old F1 car (circa 1992) before the teams would publish details though.

yes a very good point!!
something that is oftern overlooked, this includes things like suspension, cambers and downforce settings (althoe downforce is very visable)

MaffMaff 01-27-2004 01:07 PM

I was thinking more of the engine internals and the electronics and associtated software, but yeah, anything "hidden" really.

Much of the electronics systems of an F1 car are not just for the so-called "Driver Aids". The radio telemetry systems are pretty cool, considering what they have to do in such a harsh environment.

Anyway, I think I'm beginning to go slightly off topic now. Back to the F2004 ....

At the end of the day, if Ferrari were to knock out a car oh-so-similar to the previous year's car, they'd be blamed for being poor innovators. Remember the old saying ... "if it aint broke, don't fix it!"

Big Boss also said they'll change the rear of the car in terms of aerodynamics too. . .

kteo2003 02-25-2004 09:34 PM

have you guys heard if bmw williams will have this year a head up display system????
that is that all the data are being showed to the"helmet"...

ae86_16v 02-25-2004 11:36 PM

Kteo, yeah I saw that last year. That is quite a helmet. . . kind of remind me of Robotech or something. The new 5 series (E60) will have that as an option next year. Except it'll just shoot directed onto the windshield.

By the way. . .

Imola - 25/02/04
1. M. Schumacher - Ferrari F2004 - 1'19"664 - 98 laps - New Record
2. D. Coulthard - McLaren-Mercedes MP4/19 - 1'20"928 - 69 laps
3. J.P. Montoya - Williams-BMW FW26 - 1'21"026 - 72 laps
4. R. Barrichello - Ferrari F2003-GA - 1'21"235 - 52 laps
5. C. Da Matta - Toyota TF104 - 1'22"162 - 69 laps
6. O. Panis - Toyota TF104 - 1'24"356 - 54 laps

eCartman 02-27-2004 05:57 AM

yeah, that's scary time. But i thought they're going to make even more changes to the aerodynamics throughout the car. will have to wait and see at the beginning of the season.

i wonder if that little winlit really work, it's so small...
also they banned the x-wing a few years ago because of "safety concern" i wonder if this will get banned for the same reason.

But it looks so ugly. . . I kind of hope that it doesn't work so that we don't see it on "all" cars in a few years. Looking back at it now, I used to think that the MP4/19 had a really nice nose too, but now I think it drops down too much and is too slender.

Best right now, in my humble opinion, the F2004. :)

levensnevel 02-29-2004 06:31 AM

Well eCartman,

some years ago (27 to be more precise) Ferrari tested a slightly bigger 'mid' wing

I came accross following picture in an old French magazine from dec 1968.
It is Jochen Rindt driving a "plane like" Brabham F2 at the GP in Albi in the third and final race in the "Trophées de France".
