crazidude 09-05-2007 05:17 PM

The touch being only $100 cheaper than the iPhone of equivalent size makes me not want to get the touch. The classic is also much, much bigger and cheaper. So the touch doesn't seem like such a good buy.

TNT 09-05-2007 07:04 PM

the biggest plus about the Touch is the WiFi connection. i wish the Classic iPOD got the WiFi or bluetooth at least.

r2r 09-06-2007 12:00 AM

so...

for $100 more you get an iPod and Everything else in the iPhone! :hmm:

Apple just anounced that they are dropping the price of the 8gb Iphone by $200.

This is everything the Zune should have been.

Erez 09-06-2007 12:23 AM

if it had 30GB i would say damn.. but i'm not that impressed.. :bah:

So other then a bit more storage in the iPod touch who in the world would ever want to buy it over the iPhone

I dono.... but $400 is still a lot to go for in both cases...

in hotspots, the safari browser is awesome. I wonder if the "non phone" version has a laptime stopwatch feature too?

RC45 09-06-2007 12:57 AM

Because you have to buy a phone service to use the iPhone phone...

r2r 09-06-2007 01:32 AM

true, but who doesn't have a cell phone service nowdays.

edit: wait you can browse internet on the ipod?!

Exactly, that's the reason I am contemplating on getting the Touch. I don't want to pay $60 plus for the iPhone's super slow data plan. I already have an awesome plan w/ Internet service to my phone already (Motorola Q), but the Touch might just replace my iPod.

Probably wait for Rev. 2 just so they can up the storage. $400 is too expensive right now, and $300 is a bit too much to pay for a 8GB. Then again, I am a cheap ass. :D

evoWalo 09-06-2007 05:09 AM

This is surprising that no one has yet made comments to it being a overpriced faghag's MP3 player and it's just another overly hyped trend eaten up by gullible Luddites.

Speaking of which I'm selling my two iPods in the hopes of getting the iPod touch and a iPod classic. In all honesty these two items are phenomenal. The iPod nano's now fatty and squatty. I hope the Nike+ attachment works with the touch

Mattk 09-06-2007 09:34 AM

Can't Apple just make regular MP3 players these days? All this i-gadgetry is getting a bit too excessive.

well i say that the 160GB "media" player is excessive. i mean my laptop only has 80GB harddrive. who needs that much space? also i was talking to my friend about the new iPODs (he works at an Apple store) and he says that a lot of people come in the store saying "yeah i was working out with my video iPOD and it just stopped playing" well dumbass its got a harddrive in it. you might as while carry your laptop with you. point of the story is the Touch is a flash drive not a hard drive. so you can safely work out with it. etc. its "tougher".

dutchmasterflex 09-06-2007 09:58 AM

Sucks, I wish they made it hard drive based, with bluetooth A2DP for wireless music.

Imagine how long it'll take to sync 160GB via USB2.0.

the shuffle's pretty simple. the nano and touch's memory capacity's perfect size for most people. the 80gb and 160gb are for people who cant live without their vids or listen to way too much music.

you're right, but what new gadget out there isn't overpriced to a certain degree?!

I guess with the excessively huge touch screen interface and the ability to browse the internet allows apple to get away with such a high price tag.

dutchmasterflex 09-06-2007 03:59 PM

Holy crap. Job's really must be laughing on his way to the bank.

Everyone who bought iPhones before the price drop are getting a $100 apple gift card.

Interesting business..

Zot09 09-06-2007 06:07 PM

I must say that this is pretty awesome! But for the price, I'd rather pay a little more and get the iPhone.

A guy in my research lab has the iPhone, and it's pretty nifty. Nifty enough that I think I may buy myself an unlocked iPhone on ebay for T-Mobile once the price drops a little.

i think that is because everyone bitched so much about the price drop coming so soon.

If Verizon wireless started supporting the iPhone it would be a tempting purchase for me. Unfortunately I'm only 6 months in on a 2 year contract and in 18 months I'm not going to give 2 shits about iPhones.

nthfinity 09-06-2007 07:38 PM

apple just offered 200$ back to any and everybody who bought the Iphone in the last 14 days, and 100$ credit of some sort for those who don't qualify.

5vz-fe 09-06-2007 10:04 PM

^Good luck to those who bought it on ebay LOL

evoWalo 09-06-2007 11:19 PM

actually... it only happens when Apple posts a new product. ;) If it's a product from XYZ company no one complains unless it's fugly.

^I cannot see myself buying any apple stuff. But the teenage group is absolute crazy about these stuff. They don't have cars, expensive suits, watches...the only thing they can show off for is their icraps.

RC45 09-07-2007 12:08 AM

I do believe the Apple iTouch being aimed at the youth demographic, will soon be pulled from the market, as it promotes child porn.

So expect RC to buy them all before a product recall happens. ;)

My MP3 player is my phone, with 4 gigs and I'm pretty happy with all the music I have, on the other hand I have a friend who just ended up filling his Ipod with 80 gigs of music, which IMO is stupid as he always plays it on shuffle, isn't that what the stereo is for? for random music, and your player for your favorite music

30 gb/ 80gb is for all of the above. Random, and itemized, costomized playlists.... everything.

BTW, I have yet to have my zune HDD cut out while running, or working out.

dutchmasterflex 09-07-2007 07:14 PM

Don't worry Nth, the mechanical drive's arm does skip, and will eventually scratch the disks enough so that you willl notice problems with your player.

Zune, iPod, whatever, it's still a hard drive, and it doesn't like being shaken while accessed.

woot.com was selling white zune's for $150 the other week and I almost went for it. But I'm holding out for something a lot better with all the connectivity I want with out the need for special software to load music. M$ better make it right with the Zune 2!

And about the 80gb and 160gb iPods or any PMP - it's for smart people who PMP's as external hard drives for back up ;)

while this may be true, i've never had music skipping either due to data loss and such.

If it brakes, then the simple answer is replace it with the newer thing that is better.

acmarttin 09-07-2007 09:33 PM

Right as I boycotted iPods after having one last me only 9 months I started my current job that gives iPods out to employees so I'm going to have one no matter what. I just want to make sure my boss knows that the new one is coming out soon :P

(In case this question gets asked the official explanation for the "free iPod" is so they can slap us with "use your free portable hard drive" when we bitch about transferring files around all the time. But whatever their reason may be, it's always good to get free junk.)

there is no such thing as free junk, everything has a cost ;) Even if it isn't directly evident. :P

dutchmasterflex 09-08-2007 04:39 PM

Nth, the spew about hard drives is pure fact ;)

Free iPods were raffled at my last corporate holiday party. Those were pretty free. Sucks my dumbass manager spent all the money on just 2 iPods and not buying cheaper ones so more people would win them.

They weren't free.

Someobody has a salary, and is expected to use a "holiday" money to buy gifts... its all budgeted in, and seems like a free token... but somewhere along the line, sombody, or everybody pays for it.

HeilSvenska 09-08-2007 05:13 PM

I'd still get the "classic" iPod, if I didn't hate that one too. And only if it came in solid blue. They cost so much, but you can't even have a choice in color. Black or white. What a BS. Besides that, at 160gb, it has 4x the capacity of my desktop. (I live in the dark ages)

Touch screen is snazzy alright, but besides the novelty value, I don't see the point. It's just a mp3 player. And if I wanted novelty, I'd get this instead.

Buddy I wouldn't be surprised if I paid for it somehow, believe me. However when I use my ever-dwindling debit card it hurts much more.

dutchmasterflex 09-08-2007 10:46 PM

musicetime101 10-10-2007 08:53 PM

I like Apple Iphone .

unwilling 10-10-2007 09:06 PM

I own a 16GB Touch. Yes, $400 may seem a bit overpriced but, honestly, the Touch is like sex in the form of technology. The screen is gorgeous. The wifi is really an awesome addition to the iPod family. It, surprisingly, has had better battery life than my 30GB. Wonderfully intuitive interface that one can only get from Apple. I've been more than happy with it.
