Well he did explain it pretty clearly of why... But maybe the Corvette driver was expecting the R8 to back off (will never know why he would think that)..

Speed commentators are Corvette fanatics, don't pay attention to what they say. If you are in the first or the second position (the Audi) and a much slower car puts you out of the race imagine how happy you would feel :roll:

BTW - if you had bothered to turn on brain before engaging keyboard, you would realize that the passing car is responsible for cleanlyness and safety of the pass... not the car being passed.

And trying to pass inside of a slower class car like that during a 24 hour race is just stupid - there are plenty of better places to try pass... like around the outside :roll:

The pass was a stupid move.

Faster car passing slower car is responsible for execution of the pass - not vice versa.. I would have thought you would know this being a "racer"?

The slower car has to let pass the much faster car that is several laps in front of him.

Its the slower car the one who has to change its trajectory to let the much faster car pass and not viceversa.

Uhm - only if the faster car does not come upon the slower car in such a way as to prevent the slower car from seeing it.

That was not an attempt at blocking - it was a simply example of following the line - and the fatsre car tried to "squeeze" by - this time it backfired and the faster car fucked up.

Except the speed diferential os clearly visible.. the Audi tried to slide by and moved from the blind spot alongside/ahead.

It was a risky move that proved to be stupid. He wanted to put the Corvette and the series of bends ahead between himself and the Pugs.

It was a risk, but the risk far outweighed the gains - as he could have done the same thing around the outside and been well clear.

this is a mistake on the corvette driver's part ....

WHO ever said that is the NOT the corvette's fault is a total retard and should read the racing hand guide.. Inside lane or what ever lane your choose to take.. the car thats slower should ALWAYS move CLEAR!.

As stated, the R8 is too quiet to hear over the Corvette's engine and is too low to really be seen over the hood. Racing helmets cut off a lot of peripheral vision so quick glances to the side don't always reveal everything that you would see normally. Added to the even more limited movement of your head put in place by the HANS device, and your blind spot ends up being most of the side of the car.

The Audi should have waited for a clearer opportunity, such as down a straight.

Yeah I also think the Audi should have waited. It was an endurance race after all. That sort of impatience puts you in the garage - and that guy learned the hard way.

yea but when your pulling a good time and there are people behind you... YOU dont wait.. you go for the pass and you see the corvette move outta the way so HE knew he was there. he cut it in to early .. i would say corvette fault but mis judged .. not somethign he ment to do.

Anyway, I don't think it was the Corvette drivers fault. The Audi shouldn't have cut in on the inside so quickly. I know the Audi was in the middle of a race, but so was the Vette and they were both trying to do well. In the end, thats racing. Shit happens.

I hear that the new Audis are REALLY quiet. Things happen so fast on the track...in this case, I'm sure the Vette -just- initiated the turn-in when the Audi blew by and the next thing he knew, they were touching already.

That's part of the challenge and thrill of running those series with different classes all going at the same time...traffic.

I think your misinterpreting what is going on there. The corvette didnt move outta the way. He took a wider line, but that doesnt necessarily mean he knew of the audi, it could be a setup for the porsche in front of him.

Back on topic:

The Corvette driver wasn't aware of his surrounding environment which includes cars closing in on you from the behind which usually creep in through your blind spot when racing.

As the commentators said, the Audi is nearly silent and with the &L V8 blaring it's clear how the Vette driver was oblivious.

Although he should of set himself up for the turn way before that..

True the Audi should have been responsible, but the Corvette driver hit the REAR of the Audi..

The driver of the Audi saw that the Corvette was to the far left, off of the racing line.

The Audi saw the opening and went for it thinking that the Corvette knew he was there.
