Couple of Le Mans vids

found some vids on youtube... hope u like em :)

1956 Jaguar D-type driven around the circuit on a day when it's not closed off to traffic, pretty cool :D comment by mike hawthorn

1968 onboard lap (dunno which car) with apparently stirling moss commenting...

1969 GT40 onboard Le Mans clip, they mention the 917 in it... nice vid imo, too bad they dont show the entire circuit

the '99 Toyota GT1, still a favourite among many Le Mans fans, the fastest car out there at the time i believe. Also shows a puncture at the end...

for a modern take on things, 2005 or so Corvette by Luc Alphand adventures racing (he also participates in the Dakar rally), should please the V8 fans :P

2006 start of the race as aired by speed tv, some incorrect info about johan cruijff and racing for holland at the end :x :P but still nice footage of what the track looks like nowadays... its gonna be a bit different again for 2007 tho...

and a special little something for the crash lovers :P

BTW, are you planning to go this year again gucom? I'm not sure yet, since the guy I went with last year won't be able to make it for 2007... so now I'm looking for a new company :? let's see if I can find someone but it won't be easy, especially with my tuesday-to-sunday plan :bah:

not sure yet... my mom's bday is on the friday before the race, so if i go i wont arrive till at best friday late in the evening, or saturday morning... but i have good hopes :) my dad really wants to go too, because i probably/hopefully wont be in europe the same time 2008... fingers crossed :)

And here's the update:
1955 Le Mans 24h report. This was the deadliest race in motorsports: after the engine of a Mercedes flew into the crowd, 80 people died... thankfully no graphic footage...
The commentator(after saying 1 driver is DNF): "Not so our Mr Brook. No doubt recalling the delights of childhood seaside holidays, Leslie puts is back into the sand castle dunes" when the driver tries to dig the car out

1966 Ford GT40 victory, great vid, comments in german

Short vid about the 1973 Le Mans 24h, about the battle between the Matra and the Ferrari... commentary in french, the standings on the zeppelin are great!

1988 Le Mans - there are 5 episodes, this is the link to the first (oh man im lazy  )

Here's the 2nd part of the 2006 start by Speed TV (more diverse than the first part)

And the final lap of the same race

ok little update here...

great report of the '68 Le Mans

'90 onboard a porsche 962 in what looks to be the evening, great imo :D

Le Mans Classic (1 hour support race with classic Le Mans racers) 2004, great engine sound, and you can see they aren't driving those oldies too slowly :P

Mercedes CLR crash '99, the famous clip but with a little more in front and after it...

Another Mercedes CLR crash, in the morning warmup-session, it took a total of 3 flips for Mercedes to pull out

Intro vid to the computer game Le Mans... just cos it has nice footage and a cool song :P

Here are a few of my favourites:

Mercedes CLR onboard:
Porsche 908 onboard:

Porsche 936 onboard:

Ferrari 550 onboard with Colin McRae:

^^ Nice update guys, will fill my evening nicely! Thanks 8)

gucom 03-11-2007 03:48 PM

 i was counting on you dani! although my own trip is also still uncertain...
Finland should be awesome though, possibly (but not sure) the only motorsports event where more beer/alcohol is consumed per visitor than at Le Mans :P

silentm 03-12-2007 08:21 PM

^^ in finnland it's going to be cold, rainingor snowing, the chicks probably won't be as hot as in France but hey your going for the cars... right?.... :P

gucom 05-16-2007 07:16 PM

Another little update...

'87 Le Mans 24 hours... (no race, only warmup laps, but nice to see the cars)... Jacky Ickx is 1 of the people commenting and some old Pescarolo footage (Le Mans fans will know him).
[EDIT] also part 3 (previous link is part1 since part1 is not interesting), this shows the first lap of the race :) jaguar (XJR13?) battling the Porsche 962s on a slightly damp Circuit de la Sarthe 8)

2006: Audi R10, mainly onboard footage, great imo :D

2006: Aston chasing Corvette... this was an awesome sight, 2 cars just running nose to tail for what seemed like ages, in 2005 it lasted for some 14 hours i believe :P 8)

1999 Le Mans highlights :D this was a properly good race, too bad porsche wasnt there anymore... but how about toyota GT1, the first Audi prototypes (both coupe and open), BMW LM, Mercedes CLK GTR and many more classics? God I wish I'd been there in those days... this is probably the best Le Mans footage ive posted so far, enjoy! :D
[Part 1] [Part 2] [Part 3] [Part 4] [Part 5] [Part 6]

[EDIT] also the '98 Le Mans report by motors tv 8) also a great great grid, bmw MB nissan toyota porsche battling for the win, ferraris, vipers and porsches in the lower classes, and even the odd McLaren still driving around :D
[Part 1] [Part 2] [Part 3] [Part 4] [Part 5]

gucom 05-19-2007 12:00 PM

1990 Le Mans, its french but still cool
[Part 1] [Part 2] [Part 3] [Part 4] [Part 5] [Part 6]
1992 Le Mans, this time thankfully in english, BIG vid in total, almost an hour and a half... didnt watch it completely myself since the late 90s races were so much better :P
[Part 1] [Part 2] [Part 3] [Part 4] [Part 5] [Part 6] [Part 7] [Part 8] [Part 9] [Part 10]
