Rumor: Veyron's 1001 HP not enough, so...
From Autoblog:
Our Deutsch-obsessive friends over at the German Car Blog tipped us off to an article at kalaydo.de that, while discussing the attempt to slow down motorists on the autobahn, revealed that Bugatti was in the process of developing a "Sport" version of the all-conquering Veyron. The quote was light on details, only mentioning that Bugatti would up the power output of the uber-Veyron to 1,200 HP. The article also mentioned plans for an E-Class Merc that would crest the 700 HP mark. For the time being, we're chalking this up to rampant speculation since sources weren't cited and there's been no hard evidence about such a project coming across our screens. We like more power, but as far as engineering exercises are concerned, the Veyron is close enough to the limits, as is. [Source: German Car Blog] -- way too excessive :? |
Bring it on! So much for clarkson's claim of no-one ever producing a more powerful version. Highly doubtful though volkswagen have nothing left to prove they promised a car with 1000BHP and 400Kmh top end and they delivered. Also with the loss they're taking on each car surely they're not going to give up more money.
|
^So lets see.. If they actually planned that would it be delivered in 2015 or 2020? Place your bets..

I found this posted on another forum a hair over 6 months ago, so development time will not be as far out LOL |
I guess they needed to go 250mph on the Nurburgring straights to make up for the pathetic handling in the turns and lap the Northloop in the same total time as the CGT.. so instead of reducing the weight, they upped the power... how original.. ;) :P

and nice point blue8 .. the germans are doing this for the most pointless pos ever  . .soo its ok i guess .... but anyway ... now the americans have some competition ... bring it on .. Yeh!  |
I've heard something about a future Bugatti, called Bugatti Chiron, with a W18 , and over 1500 Hp.....due for 2012....
http://www.fantasycars.com/derek/car...83chiron_3.jpg http://www.carsplusplus.com/pictures...9505/photo.jpg maybe its only speculation, but that is a BIG engine for a road car   |
^^ i had pics of this car for the past like 6 years ..
imo it was just a concept .... |

T shaped 6 would work... but thats of ancient aircraft heritage 6 banks of 3? 2 banks of 9? 9 banks of 2? LOL |
so was the Veyron, a concept for about 5-6 years, I know the amazing Bugati Veyron concept since 1998, and only now its on the roads.....so who knows what the future holds....

18 cylinder radial anyone? ;) :P http://www.agelessengines.com/18cylpic.htm http://www.agelessengines.com/18cyl1.jpg |
noww imagine that on the back of a car with a glass case
it would look like a friggin time machine  8) |

how come i couldn't think of the brilliant mid radial engines out there? eat yer heart out wankel! |
Nothing new really, i´ve heard from that before the actual Veyron was released. I´m anxious if they´re capabel of doing it though. But i think they will 8)

I understand Bugatti's attempts, seeing as how the new gen Saleens and other car makers have managed to put the Veyron in the shade with claims of higher top speeds, but I call this BS. Just think...how difficult it was for Bugatti to prepare the car for 1000BHP+ conditions- tyres, cooling etc. 5 FREAKIN YEARS !! So claims of 1200 are a bit optimistic to say the least.
And the Chiron was a concept car, it was first shown even before the Veyron. |
Damn I'd like to see that car. And if it's due for 2012, I'll expect it around 2020. :')

Thats insane. Forget the power, they gotta make sure the brakes hold up. We have all seen F1 brakes blow and F1 cars weigh nowhere near what the big Bug weighs.
Forget the Bug. A 700 hp warranted salon is just overkill. The old 470hp E-class had trouble keeping traction even with electro-toys. Maybe Merc's plan is to kill off all the old rich people that will buy the car, so they can focus on the younger generation. :D There is no way that 80% of the buyers of a car like that will be able to control it. Electronic or not. I can see it now. 60 year old CEO, Mr. Dunglebee, tries to accelerate on a wet entrance ramp to get up to speed with the other cars.......and into the wall he goes. Good job Merc....good job. |
^^

Well not exciting news for me actually, I would get a Zonda F over a Veyron anytime. |
It is better to shave a 500lbs off that onk than giving it more power.

The 3 Stooges must be messaging each other like crazy back channel... after all, none of them alone possesses the intellect to mount a single pronged attack, so they feel the cowardly nescessity to form a mob.
In other words, brembo, stoopie and everso, are you 3 too chicken to hurl insults individually but rather need the "protection" of a mob"? |

If I'm not mistaken, Piech's original concept W18 was 3 rows of 6. But this had some obvious packaging issues with exhaust and intakes side...

Consider that the Veyron destroyed both an Enzo, a CGT and a Zonda in evo magazines comparison test. When they relocated to B-roads the Veyron parked them there too - prompting evo to proclaim it the fastest roadcar they'd ever driven. Theres something about 500 spare hp to pull downforce with - I'd say the Veyron seems to work fine on real roads.
Bumping power 20% from 125hp/l is probably a question of basic upgrades. Even today the weakest stock engines produce 30-40 hp more than quoted and given the 250.000kkm life expectancy of the 16-4 engine there is obviously a large margin to exploit in the design. Which VW Audi turbo engine has failed to support big power upgrades? |
