CADILLAC SIXTEEN? new supercar??

the 13 liter v16, 4 seater tank will be one of the best future supercars??? thanx for looking this forum, hope to read your opinions :P

blah 01-04-2004 10:13 PM

I saw it at the Auto show, i took pics of the engine, its looks pretty cool but i doubt they will make it.

AlienDB7 01-04-2004 10:29 PM

It's too heavy to be a supercar.

SFDMALEX 01-04-2004 10:34 PM

Are you kidding me? LOL No way its a supercar. Its to heavy, I'm not sure about the power delivery from that engine.... Its a good engineering exercise, but thats it.

antonioledesma 01-04-2004 10:41 PM

It may have the hp necessary to be a super car, but it lacks something that super cars are:
unique designs, excellent engineering and some CLEVER solution. IMO this engine is an attempt to challenge the bugattis and their VW engines.

Sorry, for me it's another desperate move by the americans to reach the almost genius ideas the germans have.

maybe its true but i think that the attempt is good,

pimrusis 01-05-2004 12:02 AM

It would be an interesting car, but I don't think it was designed to go head to head against the Enzo's and Maclarens. Lets just say, it is a really big, powerful Cadillac.

Ivanhoe 01-05-2004 01:13 AM

it falls waaaay short of a supercar. i agree w/ sfdmalex, prolly just an engineering excerise, and agood one at that. also another way to get attention. how many other modern 16 cylinder cars do you know of?

corvette97 01-05-2004 03:02 AM

well thats true and the idea of a 16cyl, its super stupid, or maybe if you are gonna stop on each gas station on the way? lol

X-ale 01-05-2004 03:03 AM

i think it aims more at the Bentley continental gt, there ya go

snacky 01-05-2004 03:07 AM

16 cyls? GM must think we're gonna invade iraq or something, oh wait, we did. next target saudi arabia and then we're onto 20 cyls.

TT 01-05-2004 05:04 AM

Supercar? LOL!

666fast 01-05-2004 05:38 AM

Cadillac isn't going to build them. They are gonna be sticking the engine in the new Escalade and the SRX though. Of course they are optional.

blah 01-05-2004 06:51 AM

yea for only a extra 10,grand we can add more plastic to your already plastic cadillac. God GM disguist me, the caddys are seriously, and EXTREMLY over priced.

Yeah i didn't say exotic, its a super-car, shit, it has a plane engine on it that makes it a super-car,

sorry forgot to put ESCALADE

Toronto 01-05-2004 07:40 PM

well i don't care if they make a v24, or any amount of cylinders, but it is the displacement 13+L that is not advance at all, i child could design something so easy, they just made every thing big and easy, i am more impressed that BMW could get 1200hp out of a 1.5L engine in the 80's

corvette97 01-05-2004 08:03 PM

i am impresed cus of the displacement and the # of cyl on a car

Sachmo12345 01-05-2004 08:28 PM

i saw the engine at last years North American Auto Show and that thing is gigantic looks like it would power at cruise ship its so long

spicymustard 01-05-2004 08:44 PM

I saw it at the Pebble Beach Concours, I very much doubt that they will ever use the engine. It is just too insane. They have problems with parts of the engine bending already and the speed is limited to 20mph, also it would never fit in an esclade or any thing else, this engine is long. AND how the hell would you ever smog it for california, or for that matter get any milage over 2mpg.
It was just a design exercise (the exterior of the car) and the engine was just to stirr publicity, and to give the car a link to cadie's heratage.
Also i think that the car is more aimed at the RR Phantom and the Maybach than any thing else.

True DAT

BADMIHAI 01-05-2004 09:20 PM

From what I recall, Cadillac has had at least another 16 cylinder engine in one of their production cars, but that was 50 years ago. I doubt it they will ever produce this car. And don't every say it's a supercar....it's nothing like that. IMO it would be a rival for....Maybach and others in that class, like the you guys said before.

they could easily do this with Displacement on demand.

hemi_fan 01-05-2004 10:27 PM

Its not designed as a supercar. If you havent noticed, Cadilac is making a huge attempt to go back to its roots. It used to be known as the hugest luxury automobile manufacturer in NA, now its almost lost all of its market. Its re-making the V-16 to give a glimpse of what might come in the future. They are trying to make some truely memorable cars, and if they ever produce any of these boats they will definitely go down in the books, good sales or not.

pimrusis 01-05-2004 10:55 PM

With displacement-on-demand, at least it wouldn't be that bad on gas. I use the word "that" loosely. Although most people who buy that are going to use all 16 all the time.

blah 01-05-2004 11:49 PM

how do you figure they would use it all the time?

Because people will want to make the engine get loud and therefore cool. When you are just cruising down the highway, it shuts down a few cylinders to conserve gas. Mash the go pedal and the fire back up.

Cadillac as of late is doing damn good. The new CTS-V is incredible. According to a friend, he said he read an article that stated that it was faster around the Ring than the M3 and M5!
They are even taking it racing, in the Speed World Challenge.

kiato4 01-06-2004 09:16 PM

I thought it was 7. something liters?

No thats way too small. GM used to build 7.4L v8s!!! this thing is a V16!! lol... its not a bunch of Geo Metro 4 bangers welded together, its actually a pretty awesome engine!

corvette97 01-07-2004 12:37 AM

IT IS A 13 LITER YEAH 13! 13000 CC

mrzonda 01-07-2004 12:59 AM

I don't even think its a good engineering exercise. 1000hp from 13.4L? That's not even 100hp per litre. Lots of cars do better (Enzo, CC8S, CGT, Macca, 360, RS4, S2000, etc etc). I don't think Displacement on Demand is new technology either. I forget where I've seen it, but I've seen it before (either on some other GM or on a Benz).

Finally, it's not a supercar, nor is it meant to be. GM and Caddy know that. It's just a big ol' GT. They won't build it. It's just a marketing thing (why do they spend millions of bucks on marketing things? I dunno).

blah 01-07-2004 03:35 AM

yea its on the new Corvette Zonda.

astonmartinandy 01-08-2004 04:46 PM

I think this car is actually the most stupid I have ever seen. You don't need 16 cylinders and what is the point of having 1000hp on a chassis like the cadillac's which wouldnt even be able to start using the engine's power properly. And 2 valve per cylinder + a pushrod set-up?? I think Cadillac really is trying to go back in time..

pimrusis 01-08-2004 10:12 PM

[quote="blah"]how do you figure they would use it all the time?[/quote

My car is supposed to get 20 miles a gallon. I get 10, because I use the power at almost every oppurtunity. If I had a 16, I would keep those cylinders lit (at least till I lost my license).

altezza 01-08-2004 10:32 PM

just wondering.... what's the power-to-weight ratio of this so-called V16 "new supercar"? LMAO

The thing is... this doesn't really seem like a tuned engine. My guess is that they made the V16 to reminisce of the old old cadillacs using modern technology, and it just happened to end up with about 1000hp. I mean its a pretty huge engine, I doubt they used many high-performance parts to get that figgure. Plus Id love to own a car that huge with 1000hp, in fact id love to own any car with 1000hp, but this one would be awesome because its designed to have that much power while others are just modded up to that figgure. I can picture driving down the highway when a vette pulls up beside u and flips u off... just give it some gas, and he'll be impressed. lol

No i was answering ZOndas questions.

zevolv 01-09-2004 03:13 AM

oh ok

Fishey 01-09-2004 05:12 AM

They need to turbo charge it make it around 3,000 hp then use it for supercars :)

zevolv 01-09-2004 05:23 AM

they will NEVER! use this car in production It isn't even very fast due to the insane weight.

My guess is that Caddy just did that so they could have a throwback to older times. Like the thunderbird, gt, and all those other fluff mobiles. This throwback provides media coverage, as does the 1001 horsepower.

Fleischmann 01-09-2004 10:59 AM

way to heavy...but it doesn't look bad at all.

COFair 01-13-2004 03:38 PM

0-100kmph takes 3.7sec! Man.. this thing is faster than a Carrera GT! And MUCH more heavier!
1300NM.. It has more power than God! :)

Minacious 01-13-2004 04:02 PM

The 1000hp motor isn't going into production. A tuned down variation of it will. It was simply a design experiment.

gottacatchup 01-13-2004 05:03 PM

this car is not a supercar. it doesnt have the look and its way too heavy even with 1,000 bhp. The real cadillac supercar was the cien, too bad they didnt produce it.

ahmedgiyab 01-14-2004 06:45 PM

from 0-60 in 3.5sec...thats more than just a supercar!

from standing to top speed(155 electronically limited) in 14 seconds...

So...yeah...I think its a super(concept)car!

itsthepham 01-14-2004 06:54 PM

isnt this car the supposely 1000hp car? Sorry if im wrong.

RallyeNLD 01-14-2004 06:54 PM

sixteen will not go into production
