The M6 is faster than the Gallardo only in straight line. They should have gone to a track:

no the Gallardo isnt a rocket in high speeds thank to the 4Wd system. the Gallardo would be a lot faster with RWD.
in fact the Gallardo lost to almost every race that day

BTW there will come about 30 other racevideos later.

I would think so too... Isn't the Gallardo supposed to be a pretty easy car for 0-60 sprints of 4.3 seconds or less (even 4.0 if some publications are to be believed).

The M6 is quite a bit slower due to the weight.

But many factors come into play... type and condition of tyres, engine wear and tear, state of clutch, and of course, the launch technique *shrug*

Jabba 09-25-2006 11:24 AM

Well it was a rolling start so that rules out the launch issue, it does seem a very slow example though, maybe he left the air con running

RC45 09-25-2006 11:35 AM

Or wasn't at the right rpm... for the gear.. at 50kmh, shouldn't they have been in 1st gear for that roll on?

I do know that from a 50kmh roll an RT12 would pull 100 bus lenghts on the Lambo :P ;)

Jabba 09-25-2006 11:41 AM

Something sure is fishy with the whole thing, it could also be that its just not running right, if I was him I would see what that engine is actually outputting right away.

Just_me 09-25-2006 11:56 AM

Last year we raced a black Gallardo with a stock M5 E60, both equal fast and M6 is faster than M5 so its natural the M6 win against a Gallardo. Also notice we did rolling starts and not from standstill.

also I have some carmags figures to present and as you guys can see 0-200km/h times are similar

M6
Test in ams Jahrbuch 2006
0 - 200 km/h 13,0 s

Supertest in sport auto 12/2005
0 - 200 km/h 12,8 s

Gallardo
Test in ams 23/2003
0 - 200 km/h 13,8 s

Supertest in sport auto 12/2003
0 - 200 km/h 13,0 s

Test in Auto Bild Tuning 04/2004
0 - 200 km/h 13,8 s

Test in Auto Zeitung 08/2005
0 - 200 km/h 13,3 s

Nothing fishy at all, at higher speeds the M6 will walk a Gallardo, one of the reasons for that is AWD, that steal power in high speeds. So again I dont see the fishy thing.

RC45 09-25-2006 11:59 AM

^^ The point is that 0-xxxkmh is VASTLY different than "some speed from a roll"

I wish folks would realize this and take all these roll-on videos with the pinch of salt they should be :)

We had fun that day, both winners and loosers were happy. We just showing what happens in real life races. Doesnt matter how we test, rolling or standstill, there will always be people whining and finding excuses. Instead of all talk or reading carmags we have it on videos. It doesnt get better than that.

I also have a video of a brand new RS4 racing a M5 E39 with 420hp, both from rolling and standstill, guess who wins ;)
Also me and Congaman racing a F430, Z06 didnt loose a single race and he met all cars there except for GT2 and 993 Turbo RUF.

I also have a 997 Turbo vs M6 and Z06 vs M5 Kellener video.

How can an M6 "walk a Gallardo" at higher speeds when it is limited to 155 MPH ?

You can get the the M6 without the restrictor and I think it will hit ~340km/h

Here's a couple of vids.

http://www.autoclips.net/detail.php?id_video=4864

BTW I'm not sure about the Gallardos top speed but I don't think it can hit 340km/h. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

higher speeds I mean around 170km/h or so. Either you guys are underestimating the M6 or overestimating the Gallardo. This isnt the first time I seen a Gallardo lose a race against a new M car.

Anyway I dont think its nessecary to convince you guys about these videos. Make your own desicions, but one advice, dont underestimate the M6. :)
Oh, this was the best day of my life I think 8)

BTW no car at the event reached 300km/h, most cars reached max 250-260km/h on the airfield.

Then that would make it clearly "fishy" as I said.

Im sure there are videos were a M cars loosing to a Gallardo. You win some you lose some races. I had a blast thats the only thing that matters.

The M6 is a quick car, no doubt about it... but heck, even my car rolls away from the stock M6 until around 160mph... oh yeah - my bad, the M6 stops accellerating at 155... ;)

Bernardo 09-25-2006 04:22 PM

You said that the Z06 didnt loose any race, you mean that it won with the F430? thats hard to belive.

Not hard to believe at all. The Z06 has a better power to weight ratio.

Doesnt the F430 weigh more and make less power? ;)

twboy1999 09-25-2006 10:18 PM

not surprise by the result with the gallardo

the pre 06 gallardo are not that fast

but se and 06+ is a diffenent story.. different gearing and 20hp.

m5/m6 have 2 speed limiter i think.. one is around 270km and 300km can be unlock by the dealer in the europe i thik

for sure m5/m6 stock limiter is not 155mhp,,, i know, cuz i been in one high speed then 155mph

tforth 09-25-2006 11:52 PM

Their was a clip posted a while back where a C6 Z-06 ran a Gallardo, and they were pretty close (albeit the Z-06 was slightly faster), so seeing that Z-06 killed the M6, I find surprising as well, that M6 won against the Gallardo.

Maybe audi isn't involved in the quality control / piece-to-piece variation of Lamborghini engines after all

I have it on video and will post it when my damn camera is working again.

but yes the Z06 won with halft length ahead but the distance would be larger if the Vette owner didnt start in second gear.

You can get them derestricted, which lets them sail on to ~200mph

RC45 09-26-2006 02:52 AM

^^ so that measn they are no longer stock :P

2nd? For a roll from 50kmh???? He does know that 1st runs to over 120kmh right?

As I understand it benz, bmw and audi have all agreed to electronicaly limit their cars to 155 mph, although we all know that a few of them are prob good for 200 mph+.

Just_me 09-26-2006 04:54 AM

the limiter is 250km/h, for en extra cost the limit will be raised to 305km/h.

yep, he realizes his mistake after some races. I know the race agaisnt M6 and F430 was done in second gear.

Shinigami 09-26-2006 05:17 AM

The M6 has a low CoD, which helps it from losing speed when going past 100mph, but as far as I know, there isn't an M car which can outrun a Gallardo.

No understating or overstating going on, just what I've read and seen *shrug*

When you say "seen" do you include the video that was posted my Just_Me, and if so, what are your comments on that then ?

Kulstad 09-26-2006 05:24 AM

Actually this BMW limiters aren't really on the 250kph mark anymore. The M6 cuts in at 270. I've also been a passenger in the new 330d and it also goes above 260 easily.

That tuned M5 is very impressive to keep up with the new Porsche Turbo, and it's still cheaper than the M6!

Is this officially stated by bmw anywhere or is it a dealer tweek ?

what you see on the speedo isnt the real or 100% accuratespeed

Yep and here it is, right from the horses mouth.

how many M6 vs Gallardo videos have you seen?
I've seen a couple of M5 vs Gallardo videos but M6 videos are more rare. also M6 is a faster car than M5.

Shinigami 09-26-2006 05:45 AM

Depends what one defines as being fast... but the M6 is not that much faster then the M5. Just a tad, and even then, over long distances. It's still nearly two tons and dragstrip times are roughly the same as my much less power SLK's (i.e. about 12.7 seconds for the 1/4 mile with a trap speed of 112-114mph).

The Gallardo is definitely faster then my SLK, I know, since I've done a few sprints versus a friends Gallardo, and he could nudge away from me thanks to AWD and the extra power in a chassis roughly the same weight as mine.

I think it's "you" who's overstating the M6 ;)

Kulstad 09-26-2006 05:46 AM

But are you guys telling me there's a 10+ error in the speedometer? I find that hard to believe. I think the limiter from the factory doesn't come in at 155mph anymore, but a bit further. I was impressed with the diesel that goes past 260kph at 4100rpm and still had a bit more to give. This completelly stock.

Im not saying M6 will vansh away from the M5, Im saying its faster, nothing else.

OK I am going to email BMW now and tell them that they don't know how fast their car goes and to update their website with the correct speed.

Shinigami 09-26-2006 05:55 AM

So you're basing one days worth of airstrip driving as being enough proof that an M6 is quicker then a Gallardo then?

How come so many other media (even if it's carmags or forum discussion groups) have shown trap times for the Gallardo as being clearly faster then that of an M6? It's not because it's an M car that the M6 is "all that". Fast car for what it is, but I'm more likely to believe that the Gallardo was hampered by an incompetent driver, or poor conditions. We all know the hp markings on an engine are not the be it all indication of power, even there variations do abound, and an engine with just 1 or 2k miles on the clock has not reached full power contrary to something with much more then this.

For example, did the M6 have 20k miles on the clock? What about the Gallardo? What were the conditions of the tires on both cars? Who drove them, the same person each time? etc... etc...

I'm not saying it didn't happen, but there are more then one indication that it shouldn't have. You get my gist?
