Besides, there are SUV's which are faster then this as well.

Faster yes, but this will probably be one of the most drivable SUV. The monster torque curve means it will hardly require any gear change, and a better kick in the back.

As far as I know, the Q7 weights two tons and a half, and thats why the car was forced to get bigger brakes than the rest of versions

Although 5,5 seg for 100 km or 60 miles per hour doesnt sound very well, IMO its acceleration is quite brilliant considering that normally the equivalent petrol accelerates a bit better than the diesel; however, Audi estimates about 11,7 liter per 100 kilometers getting it at 80 kilometer per hour on a motorway; in contrast, the porsche cayenne turbo gets 19 liters in the same conditions

This car looks pretty good. Promising for diesel engines.

Porsche has the Cayenne Turbo S, which I think is pretty damn fast.

BMW had the X5 4.8(I think it's 4.8), not sure what the new generation X5 will have.

MB has the new ML63(Once again, I believe it's the ML63).

I think that this diesel powerd Q7 point is not to kill X5 4.8 and ML63. That job will be done by RS model in future. This is just a powerfull disel SUV what happens to go quite fast.

Drivable? What is your definition of being drivable? Can it take corners? No, not very well unfortunately, and that doesn't make it drivable in my opinion.

I drove the Q7, as did a bunch of other people, and it drives pretty poorly.

But to each their definition of "driving". I don't consider being able to move a 2-5 ton SUV down a straight line on soft springs, as equating to "driving good". That's just able to create velocity, i.e. move an object in one direction. Anyone can do it, and having an engine with 1000nm of torque doesn't necessarily make this car all of a sudden "magical". It's just giving it a lot of power. The Q7 still drives like a POS.

take a look at the Cayenne and the Jeep SRT8. they handle pretty good IMO. for their size ans weight you can run them around a track pretty well.

And that is not the case of the Q7. I've proved my point ;)

So what if it handels not so good as Cayenne. It is much bigger car also and the big V12 diesel is making it more heavier. But what a engine. This car have no competitors yet.

Personally, I think the 700hp V12 diesel from Peugeot is much more interesting. Same amount of torque as well ;)

But it doesn't handle well, it rides like a whale, bobs up and down on the slightest bump on the road. So what, it has 1000nm of torque. It's still a diesel, and it's still slow. All it has going for it is 'size'. A Hummer is bigger tho'...

Anyway... I know I know... I tend to like smaller cars, but still. Something tells me this Q7 just won't sell all that much :\ Should be good if you want to pull a trailer tho'.

Let's not forget that a car like an S2000, has a 4 cylinder engine, weighs half as much, has half as much power, 5 times less torque, and goes just as fast. And I'd muuuuuuch rather be driving the S2000 then a Q7, at least the S2000 can take car corners and stays put down with more driving fun when you fling the rear end out ;) (oh, and it costs like 4 times less as well). Ok, so you can only be two people in a car, but that's fine with me, I'm such an grumpy old man anyways and I have no friends :lol: I'd rather drive a comfy saloon like an E or an S class... at least your friends will thank you, instead of them being flung around the cabin like they would be if they were sitting in the rear seat of the uncomfortable Q7)

Did you drive one with airsuspension? For a SUV I think it handeled great when I had one for testing on Norwegian roads. (we don't have autobahns, or higways of european or american standard) Put the airsuspension in Dynamic, and everything tightenes up.

I've driven the XC90, the X5, the touareg, and the cayenne, and I still think the Q7 is another league. the xc90 was to wobbely, the x5 too bumpy, the touareg had a rubbish gearbox, and the cayenne was too small an jerky.

It had typical Audi handling, i.e. not all that exciting, but worse due to the weight. Whilst some Audi's are quite nice, too many have a lead weight up front, and taking a corner at too high speeds in the Q7 resulted in understeer.

My GF sitting in the back felt like puking due to the wobbly and swaye ride.

^All SUV will understeer when going in too hot.

And when it's an Audi, it doesn't even need to be an SUV to understeer ;)

No, but seriously. As badly as the Q7? I drove a Cayenne which went around corners quite well. A roundabout at over 50kph was possible. In the Q7, I was shitting my pants going just 30 :lol:

OMG thats insane :shock: Never even thought Audi would release such a monster in the near future! 500bhp in a diesel should be truly powerful aswell as the 1000nm of torque... Audi really starts to become my favourite car maker :D

SUV's arent really for racetracks, so who really cares about how fast it can go around corners.., if you want a car that can do that buy a coupe or some sports car..almost everyone that has a SUV have another car in the garage or really dont care about corners and speed at all..

If i had to choose between those SUV's mentioned before i would look after the looks and 0-60 times.

The Q7 is not designed for cornering. In fact, like Bernardo said, it is really not designed to be a sports car. It is a very powerful, fast people-mover which people buy to haul stuff/people around with minimal effort and maximum comfort.

Thats right. If you want a SUV for going around corners fast you need your head checked first. These things are all a gimic - like most heavy mercs/audis/anything, they have a powerful engine but still struggle at corners and its natural to do so. This isnt limited to SUVs either, a S8 - S65 or a 7 series will all handle to the best of their ability, that doesnt mean they will outshine a Boxster or a 350Z though.

You wont get an involving drive whether its with an X5, ML or Q7. A competent drive? sure. Just dont expect sportscar-like handling.

I don't understand people who see powerful SUV like this Q7 V12 on racetracks, think more of kind of purpose like an Autobahn cruiser or for towing a trailers & boats. :wink:

you're right. Good handeling is not a term that should be used overall, but it is to be used in it's class and size. So for a SUV, the Q7's got quite good handeling compared to the rest. For a sports car, not so good.

Yeah and at 5,000LBs + with 500HP its will mainly be seen driving too and from the gas station!! This thing will probably get like 7 miles to the gallon!

crap... the norwegian price for the V12 TDi was estimated by audi dealers today. It will have a base price of $440.000 :|

darn, i always thought dutch cars were ridiculously expensive because of our taxes... but even here, you get a 599 Fiorano for a little under 300k (euros, not dollars)
