Whats the Status on the Xbox 360?
 

Is it worth getting now?

Did they hack it?

Or if I get it now I will still have to buy games?


Reason I ask is because I only buy games that I would play. And thats usualy 1 in a million.

A friend of mine has one, and it has definitely been hacked already. I think mainly through hacked firmware on the DVD drives.
MS probably has some anti-hacking stuff setup on Xbox Live, though, so i'm sure you can't play online.

I've had mine ever since it first came out and it hasn't missed a single beat. Also the next year will be full of good game releases with Test Drive Unlimited, Forza 2 and Halo 3.

I am thinking if I should wait until the PS3 comes out, at the same time, I am pretty sure I don't want to drop $600 on a console.

both my friends who have it, are on their 2nd ones.
one overheated the other had an HD crash. the 360 is built like shit.

Worth getting? Well the only good game out right now is dead rising or chrome hounds if you plan online. Other than that there really isn't much of a reason to spend so much money on it right now.

Yes its hacked, something about flashing the dvd drive with a new firmware. Apparently only works with the samsung drive and if the flashing fails, people say your xbox is pretty much useless from there on.

Im going to buy the 360 when Forza 2 comes out. Forza is a great driving game!

Nope, there are versions of the "Xtreme" firmware hack available for both the Samsung and Hitachi drives now.

Its really not that hard and took me less than 10 mins to update my friends Xbox 360.

Connect Xbox (samsung or hitachi) DVD drive to Sata port on pc, download and copy current firmware "key" to clipboard, paste "key" into xtreme hacked firmware, flash dvd drive with Xtreme firmware that includes your unique "key", finished !

Downloaded about 20 games from newsgroups so far and all work fine (not tested on live yet though) and quite easy to rent 360 games here for under £2 and make "backup" copies using the hacked firmware.

does LIVE still work when it is hacked?

Yes, but would give MS a chance to ban your console for life !

Hmmmmm. I don't know about hacking, but I am tempted to get 360 for Test Drive Unlimited, although a part of me wants that PS3, and I can't afford both at the same time.

There are other programs to use for playing over the interent. It's just that Live works best.

There are like 3-4 compaines with a mod chip out for the 360 now.

Best part is there are only around 14 wires to solder and cost is a unbelievable 50 bucks! :D

Well your way is probably the cheapest and best. I just thought there might be some limitations. Hell if its the same as a mod chip and free then why the hell not? Also one more question what kinda media you use for burning the games? Like what brand? Since brand does matter from my experiences from the PS2.

Too bad I dont have a 360 anymore. :( I shouldnt have sold it yet. Now I feel like a dumbass since Forza 2 is coming out. PS3 aint gonna be shit for me till they get some good racing games out, and by the looks of it the best racing game for the SONY platforms is gonna be delayed. (Who would have thought. :roll: ) Talking about the GT series of course.

Actually, there are a few limitations.

The hitatchi drive runs on older firmware compared to the samsung one so it doesn't have a couple of features. The samsung drive with the latest firmware doesn't vary the read speed or something, its always running at full speed. But if you go with an older firmware, the load times are pretty slow. And you can't flash the phillips drive apparently.

Verbatim is the best media to burn stuff on, and seems to work very well with the xbox. Memorex seems to be shunned for burning stuff for the xbox though.
