BMW Z29
|
hrmmm.... not that pretty imo...
|
based on the Z4 Coupe.. it has lambo doors too ;P
definitely ugly, but i think its sorta cool more pics.. http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/n...z29.120291.htm |
The side profile is not half bad, but the front is just :puke:
|
Not the prettiest, but 2,500lbs and 330hp in an FR has me sold.
|
It looks like a Ford Focus. What's the point of this car?
|
it's a design study into lighter materials like aluminum & carbon fiber. the car uses 1 door hinge for the lambo doors.
|
ugly .... :)
|
Funny, when someone takes an existing car and puts lambo doors on, you all call it a riced up piece of crap... BWM does it, and you drop to your knees and start sucking BMW....
...its an ugly riced up piece of nonsense... :P |
with opened doors, the gap to go in is huge!

It is yet another silly "small coupe" from BMW... the roads are littered with those stupid Z3 and Z4 chick cars with hardly any perforamnce, high prices and ugly looks. Does the world really need yet another BMW "inbetween undecided what class to be in" model? |
I'd have said the comment about power to weight about most any reasonable looking sportscar with those attributes. And whether it's from your head being shoved too far up your ass or what, I don't know, but 330hp in a car that light is far from a 'chick car with hardly any performance'.
For the record, I didn't look past the looks, hence why I said 'Not the prettiest'. |

Just because I took the time to correct some people misinformed misinformation does not mean or make anything of it - here you have brought an unrelated topic into focus for no reason. BTW - I don't like you any more than you like me.. the difference is it's not an obsession for me like it is for you, it's just reality - not every one gets along. Do you have to take the time to fuck up every thread with your obvious hatred of me? It's the intardnet chum - don't get so worked up. Again, why trash this BMW thread? Quote:
Simply opening a history book and READING the story about how and why and when the Beetle production moved would be enough for anyone with an IQ over 20 to figure out that the Beetle was only made in Mexico and Brazil because of the LACK of SAFETY and EMMISION standards, and the car would have been killed off in 1985 had it not been for this fact. This alone, means the Beetle did not stay in "uninterupted production" for the duration. But for a childish hater such as yourself that simply wants to find a way to post and spew hatred for and about others opinions what else would one excpect. Oh - and if you pulled your head out of your arse long enough to read the actual thread with some comprehension, then you would have determined that through mutual sharing and appreciation it has come to light that the Morgan 4/4 in fact is the longest running production car while meeting some very simply and basic criteria... Remain true to the original formula and be produced in the country of origin. So - if you really have a problem with me or my opinions chum, why don't you get in your car and drive the fuck over to Texas and lets settle this argument in person like adults - instead of you trying your level best to "internet-intimidate". Oh - and just for the record, when you arrive I will be sure to have some cops on hand to either arrest your sorry arse or shoot you in the face for tresspassing - maybe both. :) For gods sake people - get over yourselves already - this entire excercise (JW and the intardnet in general is supposed to be fun, relaxing entertainment - not ulcer inducing anger-filled aruments. ;) OK - back to the regular scheduled programming where apparently no-one is entitled to their own opinion. This new BMW looks the shit - it is the most awesome car ever - it even looks nice. The End |

Take a number chap. 330bmw-hp "in a car this light" will result in a "chick car with hardly any performance". As proof we have 10,000's of similar BMW's all over the world.. they (BMW) have yet to produce a decent light weight car in the modern era.. even there super-ultra-expensive-uber-light-weight versions of their cars in street trim are over weight pigs. Oh - and the rest are rather slow hair-dresser cars.. - the Z3 and Z4 come to mind. Now - when they are stripped down and prepped for race-track work, they take on another persona completly though :P |
It's the intardnet RC, why bother coming in here and trashing the thread? Are you trying to win something with your e-dick swinging? Don't feel complete unless you get your quota of irritated remarks?
As far as not making a decent lightweight car, what the fuck do you think they did here? 2,500 lbs is down in 4-banger Mazda MX-5 territory, which is pretty much the lightest mass-produced car this side of an Elise. Regardless of the weights, BMW has been able to provide some very quick cars, even with their 'bmw-hp'. A 3,400lb 330hp M3 gets to 60 in the low 5 second range (~5.3), which is plenty quick for a car that size with a 6-cylinder. And 10,000's of similar BMWs eh? Yea because BMW has produced so many cars like this, that's why you're bitching about them being slow hairdresser cars (which this isn't). Man, just do the world a favour and go have your mid-life crisis inside of a Corvette, and let the rest of us live in peace. |
You're way off on this one RC. Not one person on this thread gave this car's looks a thumbs up.
|
The car looks like ass and it is absolutlely pointless. BMW got real lazy with this design.

Oh - and in street trim a 3600lb M3 is dog slow.. :) - and since when did "plenty quick" become a performance car yardstick? It's either class leading or losing :P And 10,000's of similar BMWs eh? Yea because BMW has produced so many cars like this, that's why you're bitching about them being slow hairdresser cars (which this isn't). Quote:
I have to wonder how the world got to be overflowing with losers? Quote:

Take your opinion and fuck yourself with it you bitter little man. |

It's an opinion - in my opinion you suck on Ferrari and BMW's nether regions. Oh - and what up with the personal insults? Take my opinion and fuck myself? I am really getting the feeling it would be better for the entire JW community if your account was banned... you seem to be an unstable violent juvenile... maybe 12 years old max. BTW - when was the last time you drove a "light weight high hp" BMW in anger and were able to evaluate it's abilities? The Z29 is not a nice car... in my opinion. I am allowed my own opinion - right? |
its ugly but it wont look like this if it gets real
anyway, this old news. Those pics are about 4 years old and was first publiced in a germancarmag called Autobild. The press named it Z5. The project started already 1999. Z29 is "news" today due to BMW decision to show the prototype to AMS journalists and give them the exclusive statements about the car. But it was AutoBild who initially reported about Z29 (calling it Z5) back in mid 2002 - they got it right it was a BMW Technik GmbH product carrying lightweight framework (they thought it was all alu), but they were wrong about the engine, and about this being a future production car (Coupe version of Z4). lol why am I not surprised RC45 is here, its a BMW for crying out load ;) Dont take RC45 posts seriously, he is a man with free opinions and they are often pure crap (no offence) ( if you are into BMW ;)). Let him talk, its just fine but its your own fault if you guys get offended by RC45. Like I said he is a man with free opinions, he dont decide for other people what to think about stuff. Its a free world  |
Guys, it's RC being RC. He has to be the antagonist on any and all threads. JW wouldnt be JW without RC being himself.
|
you cant win from RC bitches ....
unless you got a dictionary that explain whole sentecnes and also tells how many meanings it has    |

Well I dont know what yall are all hyped up about, but anyway.
As for the car. It does look pretty bad at first glance, but I think with some meaner fenders and some meaner wheels, it would look pretty nasty. And yeah, those Lambo doors do not need to be on there, but i'm sure its only for conceptual looks. Also, i do agree with with nick on the performance aspect. IF ......... IF they could make it 2500lbs and 330hp, it would kick ass. POINT BLANK Just for measures: That combo would put the car in a 0-60 range of about 4.0 - 4.4 secs (more towards the 4.0). As for handling, i dont think thats anything to worry about, coming from BMW |

And to call me an internet toughguy, then for you to go on about 'face to face', way to be a hypocrite. |

Even gutted spec Miatas weigh about 2500lbs. |

Like I said, I won’t call you out of name, or anyone online for that matter, it proves nothing. There is no reason that a large group can’t have differences of opinion and debate about it in a civil manner. |
Obviously hhasn't driven a z4m. Brutally quick. THink i'd still go for a cayman s or maybe now that the boxster wil get the cayman's 3.4 motor I'll go for that, with PCCB obviously.
RC45, apart from the vfr what do you drive. (I have an RC46 myself, bit short on power though, trading for a blade or gsX-r 1000 soon) |
Quote:
And as far as the Cayman is concerned I have observed a GT3, 911 Turbo, GT3 RS Cup, Carrera GT owner pull into the pits after thrashing the car and observe that the Cayman while not being a bad handling car is "chronically under powered".... so you might want to set your sights on a used GT3 instead of the poofta Cayman ;) I sold the RC45 (RVF750) a while back - http://www.motorworld.net/forum/show...=11197&start=0 - my current steed is a 480bhp C5 Z06. |

According to miata.net and other bits of information, the Miata started in 1989/90 (NA model) with a curb weight of around 2100lb. Late model second (NB) and third (NC) models (from 2004-now) were just over 2500lb. Gutted NA's and NB's have been known to weigh less then 2000lb. Not sure how much a gutted NC would be. However, "Spec Miata's" must have a certain curb weight, which is around 2200lb for NA models, and as much as 2450lb for NC models with a 2.0liter engine... but these cars are not entirely gutted. |
btw: are you not tempted by a Z06? It looks quite sweet in black. You've mentioned previously that it's quite cheap to wring out another 50hp out of the LS7, so I'm surprised you haven't taken the bite?
|
Quote:
Just 2 weeks ago I was in a rcae shop watching a spec miata being built - so the 2500lb estimate is a lot closer to reality than what you realize ;) http://www.specmiata.com/specifications.htm These are minimum not maximum weights... and the cars are quite gutted - trust me.. but I am sure you wouldn't so I'll provide an indepth photo spread of some spec miatas later in the week. Quote:
I have better things to do with my money at this time than spend 60,000 extra to get a car that is pretty much the same as mine on the street. *shrug* Maybe when they start showing up as reasonably priced used cars we can check again. |
"Quite" gutted is not the same as "completely" gutted ;) The minimum weights of course are the recommendations. Free to go for more so you are correct in that context.
But seeing as a NA spec miata weight for a 1.6 liter engine is several hundred lb's less then the 2500 you mentioned, I'd surprised if an owner actually "wanted" to add weight to the car in order to reach 2300lb or more, since the car "stock" comes at just over 2000lb... Although I guess roll cages could easily add weight on top... But you are right in that 2300-2450 is minimal weight and the spec miatas you have seen built/raced may very well have been 2500lb or more. I do however know of multiple occurences where owners have removed a lot of junk from their Miata's bringing the weight down to less then 2000lb... Even a Miata comes with a lot of sound deadening material, as well as aircon, radio and the like. The lightest Miata I've heard of, was gutted down to 1300lb... |
Quote:
It is in no way shape or form anything like BMW or Mercedes are capable of producing.. that is the point.. a FACTORY roadster in the 2500lb range from BMW or Mercedes Benz at a realistic price is not very easily achieved. Ever imagine BMW or Mercedes Benz could build a car like an Elise/Exige? I didn't think so :P |

Yeah, other than Lotus, GM, Honda, Toyota (the ones off the top of my head) in the last 15 years there are not many... but rest assured, BMW and Mercedes are not in that group - at least not in global street legal form and for less that a bazillion dollars. [/sarcasm] :P |
