What's gone wrong with the A8 after 2 years and 80.000km
 

This is a list of what's gone wrong so far.....

* inner front fenders had to be changed $$$$
* Front disc brakes - free
* ESP sensors (4x) $$$
* Boot lid hinges - not fixed yet
* Electronic handbrake (mechanical problem) $$$$$$
* Wiper bushings $$
* right armrest - not fixed yet
* cupholder lid - not fixed yet
* airsuspention valves - fixed once $$$ (need to be bled again)
* New summer tires - Goodyear Eagle F1 255 $$$$$$$
* ABS sensors (4x) $$$
* 2x xenon lightbulbs - free
* apx. 100 system erros during services - free
* rear right caliper - $$
* hydraulic oil warning system (ran it dry without warning) - not fixed yet
* 3x changes of oil to get a suitable long life oil
* complete rinse of the oil system $$
* punctured rear reverse lights (fogging up) - not fixed yet

btw, I'm buying VAG-COM so that I can fix the system errors my self

that's all for now..... I hope my next A8 will have some of the early errors sorted out...cause I will never leave Audi 8)

DId you buy the A8 yourself? Seems an ackward choice for a 22 year old.

hehe, no I didn't buy it myself. My dad owns it, but it is the car I use when I am in Grimstad. I am in the middle of my MBA in Bergen, but I also work at a lifeboat company in Arendal. So when I'm at work, or on business travel, etc, I have the A8, but I also have to service it.

But if I had the $$ myself, I probably would have bought one, as I am nearly 2m tall and 100kg and most other cars fell terribly cramped :D

I'm 2.02m weighting 98-102 kg, I can even fit in a Polo :)

But how comfortable are you? I often drive 3000km during a 5 day business trip in germany/austria/switzerland...se my point? :wink:

Things that have gone wrong with my SLK after 18 months and 34,000km's.

erm... nothing really, except the batteries on my keys were beginning to die out, so MB replaced them free of charge :cool:

Anyway, hope your next A8 is gonna be less hassle, it's a nice car for sure :)

I am not gonna brag with my lada and expences 8) its one figure numbers :mrgreen:

A8 is an awsome car, you probably take it to the original service on all checks, they sure know how to raise the price of "free" service 8) same we had with family Vectra

Why didnt't you jsut park the car there and let them fix all the mistakes? And if they keep appearing, get them to replace the car with a (almost) new one ... I know some pepole that had similar probs, they all got new (or almost new) cars. Not a single one of the is error free, though ... But at lkeast they're liveable with ...

Probably cheaper too. Isn't it like more or less EU200 for a round trip? I know some airlines even have EU50 plans.

You tall guys should try going by plane here in the US- I am 5'11 and some of the airline seats in economy class have me all cramped up with knees touching the seat in front :)

Lot of problems :sad:

Though a couple of these are maintainance issues ... oil changes, brakes, tires - will be common to all cars so it doesnt really count.

As for my 01 S4 with 46500 miles (74000 km) in nearly 5 years (its birthday is next month) - here are the issues:
a) Problem with rattling sunroof when it is in the tilt position. Turned out to be a faulty track which was replaced for free under warranty. Also got the sunroof control switch replaced
b) Coolant Temperature sensor with associated switchgear - $200

And that's it. Though there is a small fan near the AC unit that sometimes makes a buzzing sound for a couple seconds when the unit is started up. Pretty minor fault.

No other issues. I am very happy with the car so far. I just hope the Turbo killer lady doesnt appear - this is an expensive thing to replace - about $1.2k per turbo and I need two :faint:

Damn dude, that's a lot of shit gone wrong! I'm sorry to see that Audi's reputation for lots of little problems still holds true. Things like this are why, despite them being really great cars, I'd never buy one...and wouldn't touch a used one with a 10 foot pole. ;)

A friend of mine picked up a new Passat not too long ago, and it has that, and the first thing I thought is "that will break", and unfortunately it seems like it does...seems really fucking dumb to make it electronic when normal handbrakes have worked just fine for who knows how long...:roll:

I have to say though, even though that's a lot of problems, you must have still had good experience with both the car and the dealer, if you are still an Audi fan. That says a lot about the quality of the car (besides all this broken shit, lol). Hope you get the rest of that stuff fixed! :P

to answer some of your questions... It is damn hard to get anything under warranty when you have privately importet a car yourself from Germany, the dealers here are really chep on that. They can't be bothered with the aper work it seems...BUT!!!:.. today, I caught the machanics joyriding after the oil change was complete. I had zeroed out the km's to see how far it was from my home to the shop. It was at 46km when I left it, and at 68km when I got it back. So I wen't in again demanding to see the mechanic supervisor, but he had left :x :x :x :x :x bastards!!! the radio was set to an awful techno station and the seatback was so far back I could almost see out the back window...damn bastards! you don't need a 22km long testdrive after changing oil and the wiperbushings. It was also supposed to take 2hrs, but it took almost 4. I told the woman in the reception I am going to refuse to pay the 4hrs in labour when they are out cruising in my car without me knowing. I also told her I am going to change dealer as soon as the dealer in Arendal get's an A8 lisence. :x :x :x :x :x :x :x

but all asides... when everything works it's the best car in the world for me. despite the problems and the f**king illoyal dealer, I love it, and wouldn't change it for the world.... only if I hit the lottery and a new S8 will be exchanged for it. ( base prise for new S8 is $273.000 in norway)

domestic airline tickes in Norway are freakin expensive. Much cheaper to fly abroad... besides, the A8 is pretty cheap on fuel so it is much more relaxing to drive instead of forking out $$$ on "short-notice"-airplane reservations

I somehow can't imagine a 4.2 A8 is cheap on fuel :P

hehe, my old ford scorpio 2.9V6 use 13,5l/100km, but the A8 uses 8,9l/100km (cheap for a big v8) 8)
