New Addition for My Condition!

Honestly..... All I really wanted to do was to stop in "To see what condition my condition was in" and apparently my condition was a little weak so I had to do something about it!

Well, I guess I didn't keep my word when I said I was done buying cars for a while. A friend of mine mentioned to me that he was at our local Porsche dealer and he saw a new 997 Turbo there. He said it was outrageous and I should stop by and check it out.

This is at the same dealer I had a problem with when I bought my 2003 GT2. His GM screwed me into a 4 year lease deal saying Porsche wouldn't approve a 3 year lease. I found out 2 weeks later that it was a lie by the GM so he could reap more kickback from the 4 year lease.

Anyhow, ironically, one of my sons called me the same day and said he had drove by the dealer, saw the Turbo, stopped in and freaked out over it and he too thought I should stop in and check it out. Couldn't believe I got both calls the same day about that Turbo!

So with all that agitation, I knew I needed to pay the dealer a visit. The owner of the dealership had sent me a note a year ago or so apologizing for his GM's actions and wanted to make it up to me, so he asked me to stop by one day. I guess this was as good a day as any!

Well I jumped in the Carrera GT (to do a little ball-busting - cause I had bought it from another dealer because of his GM) and went to the dealer's new showroom. Sure enough, there it was on the spotlight stage, a new 997 Turbo in Colbalt Blue Metallic with Stone Grey leather interior. It was beautiful. BUT it had a 'SOLD' tag on the windshield! Bummed out!

I called the owner over, had a friendly pow-wow, smoked the peace pipe and then asked what was the situation on the 997 Turbo? He told me it was 'supposedly' sold to a car dealer (non-Porsche) in Florida but he hadn't done any paper work on her yet.

Long story short...... he decided to sell it to me..... at STICKER..... $132,905. I guess he was trying to mend broken fences! I certainly appreciated his gesture no matter what the reason.

It's an awesome car with unreal power as far as I can tell. I'll give everyone some more reflections on her at a later date.

One gripe and one weird situation. The gripe..... $540 for Silver 'colored' seat belts! Are you kiddin? Now if they were Silver studded..... well maybe!

Weird situation...... on the sticker it says Colbalt Blue Metallic $2380. And then on the line directly below, it says Colbalt Blue Metallic N/C (no charge). But I did the calculations and I WAS charged the $2380! Also on the 'build it yourself configurator' website, it also says there is no charge for the Colbalt Blue Metallic paint! Huh? Helloooo..... Porsche...... anyone home?

I guess I'll have to call Porsche Headquarters this week to see what the heck is going on. Meanwhile, glad to be back here with everyone and I hope you enjoy the pics. Reckon I added a new color to the rainbow mix of cars! Magwheel

p.s. I'm sending the pics to Jabba and hopefully he'll be able to put them on this post tomorrow. :D

Thanks nthfinity! As Ben Hogan was once purported to have said after someone suggested he was just lucky: "It's ironic, the more I practice the luckier I get!"

Long time no talk to friend. Glad to hear from you again! Mags

Not yet..... Break-in period you know. Plus, I think I read where it can only be used at full throttle... yes... no? Is it also like a 'quick mini shot' of nitrous?

Thanks for putiing the pics on. Really appreciate it!

saadie 07-10-2006 11:56 PM

omg

997TT
you really are one lucky lucky man 8) :P

can i have it after you are bored of it

Michael, this is one review I really look forward to. I have never been a Porsche fan. Their cars have done nothing for me, with the CGT being the only one that I have ever cared the slightest little inkling for (the sound from the engine/exhaust is damn near impossible not to like). When the 997 Turbo debuted though, my interest was peaked. The more I read about it, the more I started to like it. It still has that typical Porsche shape that I have never really cared for (those wheels have to go too), but something is different and I just can’t put my hands on what it is. If I was to get one it would be the very color you have purchased, blue with a grey interior, so your review will feel a little more directed at me. I look forward to your full write up. Enjoy the new addition to your stable.

no problem at all :)

yeah, break in periods... well, i haven't yet owned a new car; so i've never really bothered with that yet :P

I wouldn't be suprised it if requires full throttle to use the extra boost. anyway... since you'll be driving Turbo more often then the others, then break in should be nice and swift ;)

ae86_16v 07-11-2006 02:09 AM

Wow, that is an amazing color! Is that a new Color just for the Turbo?

Please do give us a write up on how it feels. . . Thanks for the pictures!

pterps 07-11-2006 02:21 AM

Nice story and awesome car Michael, I really like the color. Did you get the car soon after you bought it? I think it would have taken a long time if you ordered a new car from the factory !?

StanAE86 07-11-2006 02:26 AM

NICE!! I like the color a lot. A new car for the dog to guard...excellent! Do you keep all the rigs in a particular spot in the garage? Or do they park where there is space? If you're running out of space, I'll gladly "hold" one for you in my garage. It will be guarded by my dog, Boba... :D

Erez 07-11-2006 02:58 AM

 omg........ :faint:

Enjoyed your writing again, you should write novels.. about cars :D

Dont know why and how but you have a unique style of taking pics... cars look so "calm" and "relaxed", every pic is always saved in my PC wich doesnt happen very often I have to say :)

Cant wait for later impressions :P

twboy1999 07-11-2006 10:44 AM

Michael

nice to see that u add another car to ur amazing collection already

but, sorry, i just cant feel the excitment from the exterior of the car.. the front bumper is decent,, but the rear bumper.. what the heck is porsche thinking... I am sure the car drives alot better then the 996 turbo.. the grip level should be phenomenal

i don't mean to bash on the look of your new car,, but have u thought of porsche 997 gt3? or gt3 Rs? both of these cars are probably the best looking car out there,, and the driving aspect should be even better and more evolving then the 997 turbo..

even the porsche test driver, walter rahole, said, if he were to purchase a new car.. it will be the new 997 gt3.. thats how good the car is

but on the other hand,, the 997 turbo, is a great everyday car, and easier to drive on the limit, and is targeted toward different market

micheal, hope you put some milage on it and give us a review,, i can't wait.. and can you tell us if the turbo lag is still very noticeable?

drive safe

see you

Pehtren 07-11-2006 11:50 AM

Jackpot!!! :P

The car sure is amazing, i think if i had money i would buy it right away 8)

Looking forward to read your review, i wish you smooth break in period....then its party time

Take good care of it :D

black_magician 07-11-2006 11:56 AM

lucky bastard.

Wutputt 07-11-2006 03:27 PM

When I was reading down your post, I first thought you ordered one, but then I red you bought the dealership car. Excitement rose :D But it was only when I saw the pics , I realised it's already sleeping in your garage. You lucky guy! This is a nice addition to your collection.

Can you already reflect on the driving experience or is this too early? Cause the one thing that bothers me a bit about the 997TT is the sound. I've heard it accelerating once at full throttle, but the sound was a bit disappointing. I was expecting more grunt considering the staggering performance of this machine.

RC45 07-11-2006 04:34 PM

I love the car.. but the colour doesn't do it for me.

Congrats and enjoy it.

:)

Jabba 07-12-2006 08:00 AM

And it matches the JW Cobalt theme

stmoritzer 07-21-2006 06:47 AM

^LOL

as I said on your main post, congrats to your new baby!
and
thanks for the pictures, the color may not be my favourite, but the cars looks great. IMO the interiour color is not that nice.

Have fun with the car and slap them for charging extra money for the metallic color :x .

TopGearNL 07-21-2006 07:36 AM

bmagni 07-21-2006 01:58 PM

mustang07 07-21-2006 03:03 PM

Hey Michael,
Just saw your post, I just wanted to say what an awesome car you have. A couple of weeks ago i decided to go make the rounds at the car dealers to see what they have and went to Armando's and acutally saw yours on the floor. The car is beautiful. I saw the sticker and was taken aback (only my second 6 figure car sighting on the showroom floor). I looked in the front window and it, of course, said SOLD. I didn't have my camera so i came back the next day and you must of picked it up. Beautiful color i absolutely love it. The whole car is amazing. Just amazing (did i say that enough) hope to see you around sometime.

Steve
