*The official Ferrari 599 GTB thread*

I thought that since there is official confirmation of the new flagship name, the Ferrari 599 GTB deserves its own thread :D

So, put all the latest news, pics, etc... HERE!

From the owners website:

With the release of the 599 GTB Ferrari is presenting its most powerful V12-engined production car of all time.

Amedeo Felisa, Ferrari’s Vice General Manager, officially announced the new model in occasion of the opening of the Detroit Motor Show on the 9th of January.

The new car is a concentration of Ferrari’s most innovative and technologically advanced engineering solutions applied to a mid-front engined two-seater coupé. The result is a new benchmark for performance, driver involvement and design.

The Ferrari 599 GTB boasts class-leading power thanks to its 5,999cc V12 - derived directly from the Enzo Ferrari supercar – which produces no less than 620hp at 7,600 rpm for a weight/power ratio of just 2.6 kg per horsepower.

Ferrari has adopted the latest evolution in its tried and tested all-aluminium construction technology for the body and chassis.

The unmistakable Pininfarina design gives the Ferrari 599 GTB aggressive yet elegant lines which are perfectly integrated with the advanced aerodynamic solutions adopted to reach the performance figures attainable.

This new model is the symbol of Ferrari’s production – the V12 berlinetta – and represents the latest interpretation of a theme that has seen such classics as the 250 GT, the 275 GTB, and the 365 GTB4.

The Ferrari 599 GTB replaces the last in that great line of berlinettas, the 575M Maranello, of which – together with the 550 Maranello introduced in 1996 - no fewer than 5,700 have been produced, a record for this type of model for the Prancing Horse.

The new car will be officially unveiled on the 28th of February 2006 at the Geneva Motor Show.

620*2.6 = 1612 kg. That's better than the 575 M. But the 612 Scaglietti was also announced as lighter than the 456 but is, inreality, heavier so ...
Anyway, the Murcielago will need and upgrade to stay in touch  From what we can read it should arrive for the Geneva Show too :P

Edit : I forgot to thank you for the info mate

559 GTB in Geneva = yg60m driving, flying, walking,... (whatever you like) to Geneva :D

Yeah, its probably a little optimistic that it weighs 1612 kg, but hell, they won't under-weigh it by more than 30 kg.... which means it weighs closer to 1642 kg... still not bad

In any case, this car will pose a real threat to the SLR, and thats saying something

sikx5 01-09-2006 09:20 AM

 ....Thats a bit of power under there!!!

I cant wait to see one in person, it has some very nice curves..all over

Thanks for the info nejcdolinsek

No.1 01-09-2006 10:26 AM

Nice info!

The pics we have so far show some fussy styling IMO, but i don't mind it, i'm sure it will grow on me just as the Scaglietti 8)

620hp should alow it to keep in touch with the new Murcie, but i'm sure this will be a superior drive - the 550/575 has been a FR handling benchmark for 10 years now :good:

nejcdolinsek 01-09-2006 10:31 AM

High res!!! :D

http://img360.imageshack.us/img360/3...980b8ds.th.jpghttp://img360.imageshack.us/img360/3...980c1uk.th.jpghttp://img360.imageshack.us/img360/9...980d1db.th.jpg

Do you notice (on the first pic) how the rear buttress is above the rear window, which is semi-circular??? Now THAT, my friends, is one hellofa detail!

ae86_16v 01-09-2006 10:59 AM

Eww. . . those aren't official yet right? Feb 26th is the official launch date right?

So it'll be called the 599 GTB, what happened to the name of the car, Imola? Why not call it a 600?

1zippo1 01-09-2006 11:03 AM

Nice, high res pics. Thx for those and also for the info.

620hp... that can't be bad :D It's probably going to be very expensive I think. A lot more then the current 575.

Yup, the pics are official. Its not going to be the 600 Imola, because that was just the speculative name the press used for the new 599 GTB. Besides, I much perfer the name "599 GTB", than "600 Imola"...

The car will be announced at Detroit, but the unveiling will be at Geneva.

Wutputt 01-09-2006 03:54 PM

I'm totally not convinced by its styling. But that's the problem I had with al recently (i.e. max 9 years ago) released Ferraris. I don't like their styling from the start but they grow on me through time. But still I miss the sparkle that put me on fire when seeing such great Ferraris as the f355, Testarossa/512 etc. for the first time.

Mr Ferrari didn't like round numbers :D

Darkel 01-09-2006 05:14 PM

Bigger, bigger ...
http://img377.exs.cx/img377/5497/462...1car0nl.th.jpghttp://img377.exs.cx/img377/5846/462...2car3na.th.jpghttp://img377.exs.cx/img377/7849/462...3car0to.th.jpg

I will have to see it for real to make myself a proper opinion, ferrari's press pics aren't enough, the same happened with the scaglietti which I didn't really like at the beginning and then we all started seeing them on our roads ...

ferrari550 01-09-2006 05:48 PM

I do not like the rear end at all. I would rather the back in the spy pics while it was being tested, a bit more like the f430.

SFDMALEX 01-09-2006 06:44 PM

Its fucking horrid :(

Thanks for thread though, lets keep all the 599 info in here please, as you said ;)

Cearabc 01-09-2006 08:08 PM

I Love it!

the style.. the looks of the car!
I really want to see this car in real

Mr.Vercetti 01-09-2006 08:44 PM

Beauty. And for a change, no twin round backlights!!

chest3r 01-09-2006 10:02 PM

dani: GTB - Gran Tourer Berlinetta

I saw this in a portuguese website so I'm not 100% sure about it

SFDMALEX 01-09-2006 10:24 PM

I am surprised at how many people actually like the styling. I think its bloody hideous.

Considering the 550 was one of the all time greatest GT designs.....this is moving a 1000 years back/

sentra_dude 01-09-2006 10:37 PM

U.g.l.y. :puke:

That's really how its going to look? I thought Ferrari's were supposed to be about good performance and good looks...the 550/575 Maranello was drop dead gorgeous...what happened with this?

The specs look nice though, and if they can actually cut the weight or keep it the same that'd be nice, but somehow I doubt it, Ferrari is always a bit 'optimistic' with their numbers. :P

Thanks for the pics and specs. 8)

Agreed, this makes the 612 Scaglietti look like a Beauty Queen.

nejcdolinsek 01-10-2006 03:32 AM

I thought the exact same thing, guys, but the more I looked at it, the more I like it! Give it some time to grow on you :D

Thanx for the higher-res pics!! :D

Mr.Vercetti 01-10-2006 04:13 AM

Here are the first pics at even higher res. and a spy vid.

RAMMIUS 01-10-2006 06:32 AM

The 599 GTB has a sophisticated design , most certainly the shape was dictated by the aero needs of the car , I`am sure that in terms of downforce it will easily outclass the competition.

And in my opinion the design says agressivity all the way.

I love it :P

nejcdolinsek 01-10-2006 06:49 AM

DAMN those are some huge pics! :D I LIKE I LIKE!

numerouno 01-10-2006 09:47 AM

I'm def sure that this is destined to be new benchmark for GTs and BTW as nejcdolinsek has already mentioned, I'm sure the design will grow on you :)

nejcdolinsek 01-10-2006 10:23 AM

Anybody notice that the rear wheels are 20 inch, and that the steering wheel has the Enzo style LED lights? :P

dutchmasterflex 01-10-2006 11:49 AM

its growing on me now that I have the 1600x1200 pics as my desktop wallpaper..

reminds me of the C6 corvette.... :P

Kinxy 01-10-2006 11:56 AM

of coruse the design will grow, BUT, why not go with the one we actually liked? The 600 IMOLA design...

Cockrocket 01-10-2006 03:14 PM

The styling is like Marmite, you either love it or hate it. I like it apart from the wheels. I feel a good wheel design can make or bresak a car and so far those rims look horrible. What it needs are 19inch rims like the ones used on the Novitec F430 with phat low profile tires 8)

As for the specs, you cant argue with those. They have trhe capeability to beat the SLR and it will be lighter. It will also no doubt have the Front mid engined layout which creates the perfect balance and is the most attractive layout for a car. I was unsure about the styling as it looks to like the scaglietti but that styling is growing on me, and this car is every moment. Cant wait to get some pictures of a real car as no dou bt everyone knows those images are a combination of computer generated and hand drawn graphics. I will probably wait and draw a full conclusion on the car when we get those images!

EDIT: ok so the rims are aparently 19 and 20 inch but i think the clearnace between the wheel arch and the top of the tyre should be a lot less to make it look more sporty like the brabus slr

Zot09 01-10-2006 03:30 PM

It looks a lot like a Corvette from some angles. :|

first impression isnt good...
but well, lets hope to see it in the metal

mindgam3 01-11-2006 04:03 AM

I'm not too sure, looks a bit toooo much like a 612 i think

yg60m 01-11-2006 06:32 AM

The steering seems to have the shiftlights of the Enzo ... I think I'll need some time to really appreciate the design but I already begin to like it
However, I always prefer the Murcielago

I agree with you.... but for me Ferrari is also style and elegance, not only power.... so actually I prefer the 612 Scaglietti, the real "Gran Turismo" :|

But we must wait for better views :)

gangajas 01-11-2006 07:41 PM

I hate it, it looks like a Hyundai   :(

Fleischmann 01-12-2006 12:22 PM

Damn...I totally despise of the direction Pininfarina styling is going. I was hoping that the spy shots were far from reality, but this looks absolutelly awful :( The power upgrade is amazing though, the 599 has entered a territory which was reachable for only a few companies a few years back.

ae86_16v 01-30-2006 03:03 AM

The Tailights on that car is ugly. I think they should've stuck w/ the traditional 4 Rough ones. The front end looks good though.

Hehehe... guess whats on the cover of CAR Mag.... :D
