It appears that some rarer, privately owned cars may be driven by their owner, masquerading as the Stig. This was the case for the Maserati MC12, privately owned by Frank Mountain, a successful property developer; the car was at the time the only one in the country. Heikki Kovalainen (the Renault F1 test driver) admitted to driving the Renault R24 F1 car around the track in the 2004 series, clothed as the Stig.
Interesting...

yeh i didn't know the renault F1 tester thing, though we all speculated. Julian Bailey also drove in place of Perry McCarthy a few times

AlienDB7 12-21-2005 06:58 PM

Now, should we really trust wikipedia? We could spread some rumour by mentioning the possibility of Jabba being the real STIG

That's the beauty of Wikipedia

Wonder how long it takes for someone to notice that

graywolf624 12-21-2005 07:33 PM

hahaha... See my comments in the other thread where wikipedia tried to claim they were as reliable as Britannica.

AlienDB7 12-21-2005 07:55 PM

Looks like it's been fixed already. But the fact that changes were allowed and did stay on the page for a period of time is simply unacceptable for an "encyclopedia".

jakaracman 12-22-2005 04:50 AM

It's not encyclopedia, it's Wikipedia ...

Gilles27 12-23-2005 12:38 PM

Impresive (and inedit) information thanks for the find guys. I read it with a lot of interest.

SL55 AMG 12-23-2005 02:54 PM

The part on the Wikipedia Site towards the bottom about "Known" information about the Stig is pretty funny...its all the stuff they say on the show but its funny to read them all together

Cockrocket 01-04-2006 07:50 AM

I always thought that the 2nd stig was Damon Hill, but my basis for that was when the stig drove the F1 car. I beleived only someone with an F1 background could be trusted and be able to drive that fast in a Full on car like that. But that arguement has fallen through. Any speculations to say someoene else drove the DBR9? and not the real stig?

Dubai 01-04-2006 03:40 PM

Stiggy....... Very interesting, I am just amazed by this character. S T I G..

nthfinity 01-15-2006 11:41 PM

Stig absolutely 100% postitively did drive the Renault 2004 chassis around the TG track... he also had a very hard time not stalling it 8)

Stig's face is also known to anybody who is in the TG audience... as he has the helmet off, and is at most studio tapings.

Stig was a test driver...
unfortunately, my source cannot recall his name... but he is a very familiar character... and not exactly like our friend perry mcarthy's interesting history.

cheers.

cooperluke 01-16-2006 07:14 AM

If it was so public, surely there were pictures of him in the program around the net!

i'll ask him next time i see him.
yes, F1 test driver

oh, and about it 'being so public, then we would know'

its part of the TG mistique.

jakaracman 01-17-2006 02:07 PM

Does anybody know anything more about this article:

nthfinity 01-17-2006 02:11 PM

Well if its true it's hardly news, since Perry said he was stig before in his book.

And yes i do still lurk about couldn't resist logging in :P

jakaracman 01-17-2006 02:23 PM

Well the article says that Julian is the new, white stig, he took over form McCarthy (black stig), not just drove in his place a couple of times (that would mean that he drove as black stig) ...

AlienDB7 01-17-2006 03:21 PM

Now, there're 2 possible outcome...

1. Julian Bailey is really the new white Stig and Jeremy has to kill him off like he did to the black Stig.
2. Julian Bailey is not the new white Stig.

In conclusion, we'll never know the identity of the latest Stig :|

jakaracman 01-17-2006 03:42 PM

Well, if JC puts a gun to his helmet, I guess it was Bailey.
Anyway, I dont know how old the article is, just found a scan on some forum. Maybe it's old ...

ferrari550 01-17-2006 05:23 PM

Very interesting find! thank you very much

Honda_PoD 01-17-2006 05:42 PM

nice find, but that site is just a grouping of articles. I think the show would lose some edge if we all knew who STIG was....thats some of the fun of the show.

naw, it wouldn't lose any edge... but would rather loose the goofy fake clues about the stig

"some say he can belch the alphabet backwards, and wears a wife-beater to bead.... we call him Stig!"

which is always good fun...

FD3SDriver 02-07-2006 09:11 PM

Good stuff

Mattk 02-08-2006 03:00 AM

Interesting, but not much confirmed.
