Will the Veyron beat the Zonda F?
We have been talking for some time about the Veyron on the Top Gear track and a lot of people have their opinion on the matter whether it would be the fastest car they've tested yet. We now know they haven't (yet) driven the Veyron on the track because they could only get a mule in the show.
This poll is to show how many people think the Veyron will pull it off..... I've been compairing some power-to-weight ratio's of the cars featured on the Top Gear test track and to that of the Bugatti Veyron. You can see the ratio becomes gradually less from the Zonda F to the Vanquish S. If you then picture the PWR of the Veyron which is 0.53 bhp / kg combined with four wheel drive It should have a reasonable chance of beating the time of the Pagani. But still...The difference between the Zonda F and Veyron is just 0.04 and the Zonda S got passed by plenty cars with a lesser ratio. And the Koenigsegg has a ratio of 0.56...... So in the end my guess is it will be somewhere in the high 1.17 Pagani Zonda F 1.18.4 PWR 0.49 bhp / kg Maserati MC12 1.18.9 PWR 0.47 bhp / kg Ferrari Enzo 1.19.0 PWR 0.48 bhp / kg Ariel Atom 1.19.5 ? PWR 0.25 bhp / kg (0.38 in tuned mode) Porsche Carerra GT 1.19.8 PWR 0.44 bhp / kg Ascari KZ1 1.20.7 PWR 0.37 bhp / kg Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 1.20.9 PWR 0.35 bhp / kg Ford GT 1.21.9 PWR 0.36 bhp / kg Porsche GT3 RS 1.22.3 PWR 0.28 bhp / kg Ferrari 360 CS 1.22.3 PWR 0.33 bhp / kg Murcielago 1.23.7 PWR 0.35 bhp / kg Zonda 1.23.8 PWR 0.44 bhp / kg Koenigsegg 1.23.9 PWR 0.56 bhp / kg Sagaris 1.24.6 PWR 0.35 bhp / kg Evo FQ 400 1.24.8 PWR 0.29 bhp / kg Gallardo 1.25.8 PWR 0.35 bhp / kg BMW M5 1.26.2 PWR 0.28 bhp / kg Ferrari 575 GTC 1.26.8 PWR 0.31 bhp / kg Chevrolet Corvette 1.26.8 PWR 0.27 bhp / kg Aston Martin Vanquish S 1.27.1 PWR 0.28 bhp / kg I haven't adjusted for wet times, I just took the times from the Top Gear site. |
Yes, I believe the Veyron will be faster.
I wonder if they will put their hands on one for the next season, but if they will, I think it won't be up to the challenge..
I just wanna see the results. It may be faster or slower, it's still out of my price range (for the time being).
I don't believe that the Veyron will be as quick as the Zonda F. The Zonda is much lighter, and I seriously doubt that the Veyron can change direction as easily or as well. Of course it will be significantly faster in a straight line, but since the TG track is reasonably tight I have a feeling that the Zonda will probably come out on top.
I vote Zonda too. JK saying it handles like a lotus must be exageration. 2 tons and handle like lotus? my balls.
That's possible, even Gordon Murray was surprised by its ability on the track and said that it was a better track car than road car ... :?: So why not ... but from what we know about its times on the Nurburgring it should be beaten by the Zonda
It's too heavy, it certainly won't be faster, at least not on the TG test track which has many tricky corners. I'm not too sure if it could make up all the time lost in the corners on the straights.

veyron is fast on straights but I think it will be slow on turns. IMO veyron beat lap record with 1 or 2 seconds.
on a course with long sweeping corners i can see the veyron beating the zonda.
(or any modern supercar that is) but on slow, tight and twisty tracks. lighter is almost allways better. that being said. i believe the zonda will still come out on top and the veyron (even though its a "fast" car with great accleration and handling characteristics) is just too heavy to come near the top three. let's hope though that is does give a good review and gives the other manufactuers something to think about when it comes to supercar status. |
I'd give the Veyron my bet. It may be heavier than the Zonda, but it's got 4WD so the Stig can probably get on the throttle earlier on corner exit. Then of course the immense power on the straights. Even in corners, I'm sure the Veyron has quite a bit of lateral G, since it's got good amounts of downforce and gigantic tires.
After the MC12 beat the Enzo (:(), I'm no longer betting against heavier cars. Hm...just thought of something. What if they take the Veyron out on a wet track, so that we can't make the comparison and it just annoys us? |
No it wont. As a matter of fact it will be slower then the Enzo and the CGT.
Zonda.. Sorry but the Veryon is going to be slow. Its a pig..

guys i still can't see why will weight be a problem for the veyron? weight matters if u have low power and normal brakes, then weight will be the reason for ur car not accelerating and brakes aren't strong enough to make the car stop (just like the SLR)
though the bugatti weighs 1890 Kg, it still can accelerate to 60 as fast as an F1 car, and thought it weighs 1890, it brakes so good! and weight can be an advantege making the car more stable if the bugatti was weighing 1230 like a Zonda F it will have a much larger rear spoiler so it doesn't take off.. i read in (AutoCar Magazine) they tested the Bugatti in the last episode, they said u can choose the mode u want in handling blah blah, and they say that the bugatti is made to ((understeer)) when ur entering a corner with lots of power. so VW put every thing in there minds they knew that some ppl will screw so bad with there car and because it has a Mid-engine + 1001 hp understeering will be more usefull then oversteering.. i love the Zonda F its my favourite supercar.. i see nothing better then it, but to be honest i see the Bugatti beating it.. |

i checked the Evomagazine test, they wrote the weight of the veyron is 1888 kg..
".....according to Dr Schreiber the quoted 1888kg kerb weight of the Veyron is in fact a dry weight. To get a truer figure you need to allow for 100 litres of fuel, 40 litres of water for engine cooling, 15 litres of water for the twin chargecooler circuit, 20 litres of engine oil, a further 22 litres for the gearbox and another 15 litres for hydraulics, brakes, etc. That puts the weight closer to 2100 kg."

^ wow!! now thats mad!! thanks for posting the quote
go veyron go turbo power
Thanks for ur late contribution
it is always time to be updated i live in alaska i dont have tv so excuse
When will BMW come out with a car that will fight for top super car? they have been hidding in the wings..... 8)
^^^ you know that's true.
i honestly can't think (even though i haven't keeped up with german cars much) of a bmw super car. not a super sedan. they have the capabilities no doubt and the technology. all they need is a design that's strays away from the luxurious sports sedan. as for the veyron, its hard to handle a heavy car (2 tons? wtf!) on a tight circuit. i dont know the topgear track at all but i hear its a small tight track with enough turns to actually want to turn. |
I think the real question is:
"By how much will it beat the Pagani??" We've already seen what cars with lots of power can do. Just see the Ford GT, that is no wonder in handling, but with the power it has, overtook the 360CS and the GT3RS! |
the Veryon is way to heavy---
voted for the zonda F. i don't think the bugatti could beat it. too heavy and my run out of gas during the lap
You guys all overlook the most important factor. The fact that Jermey *loves* the Veyron makes it the fastest car on the track
Technical wise, Veyron should be slightly faster than the Zonda F anyway. It's AWD and has much better acceleration and braking so the Stig should be able to brake later and accel out of corner earliers. As for weight of petrol, don't worry, half of the tank will be gone by the time the Stig finishes the first lap ;) |
veyron powaaa
