New BMW 3-series Coupé

Officiell photos will be out in one week

This is all the info so far

Presenting "performance without penalty": a 335i with N54 I6 3.0L two-stage turbo with [censored]HP, [censored]Nm, 0-100kmh in [censored]sec.

What a teaser :D

Ghostbat 12-05-2005 05:36 AM

So it was true that BMW was going to use forced induction. About the HP I have heard figures of around 330-350. Only rumors though..

RAMMIUS 12-05-2005 08:14 AM

3er series coupe with an turbocharged engine :?

What the world is coming to ? :?

In someway it's like you say but remember that the new M3 will use a NA V8.

Can't wait for the official pics!!! I'm pretty sure it will look great 8)

I don't mind BMW use twin turbo sequential technology in some models as long as they keep the M3 NA  :P

Don't think that's a 3-series. 2002 turbo no?

Give me a N/A V8 anyday over a F/I V6. Mercedes got it right when they switched the supercharged C32 to the V8 in the new C55. This will be the 3 series competitor. I still like the Merc AMG 5.5 V8 though, god it sounds nice.

911GT1 12-05-2005 09:03 PM

At the end of the day it all boils down to power. Turbocharged, NA, supercharged or whatever... I hate to be in the least powerfull car. This car IMO is an experiment for BMW to see which path to take, forced induction or NA. No engineers in the world in their right mind will pick the NA if the FI option is avail to them. Remember 80's F1?
I really really hope BMW will use FI in all their M cars. At last it will be perfect.

bmagni 12-05-2005 09:12 PM

fuck you BMW !!! i used to love you and then came that thing called turbo... i pray its not include in the next gen M3

nchs09 12-05-2005 10:04 PM

The M's will be N/A.

This isn't the first time BMW has used a turbo for their gas engines. Just look at it this way, now BMW can pound Mercedes in every aspect

nice to know bout M's
yeah, i know but it isnt right, i love NA's... not turbos... :(

Sir_GT 12-06-2005 01:19 PM

The car looks hideous. Sorry. It's not eye-catching or remarkable at all. Worst 3-series ever IMO.

Audi's RS4 will definitely be far better looking than the next M3. BMW better come up with some real substance, otherwise I expect the sales figures to tip towards the RS4's favour.

Ford Capri 2.8i 12-06-2005 02:25 PM

Exactly, the pioneer of the 3 series was the 2002 (the model shown by Dani) and as far as I know it was even the first car which introduced the turbo

On the other hand, actually I dont like the current 3 series coupe too much...although it looks better than the 7 series, the 1 series or the 6 series its clearly a step backward compared to the E46, although IMO the E36 is much more beautiful than the E46

sads 12-07-2005 03:53 AM

I like this idea I mean BMW make some of the sweetes NA engines on the planet so why not make turbo version of one them? But I think the new S4 is so sweet that buyers will look straght past it they need to get the new M3 out

The embargo still on. Even on Monday and further. Sorry.
But the major BMW distributors and press are still getting the press kit this week.
Expect first teasers in auto press.

Shall the force be with you...

Ford Capri 2.8i 12-30-2005 08:31 PM

Anyway, I see quite a bit of contradiction if BMW introduces some turbo since the BMW president has been boasting many many times that BMW is capable of making engines which produces a similar amount of power and torque to the supercharged engines (he was refering to Audi and Merc) but with the aspirated engines

And naturally the turbo engines will ruin his comments; see what happens anyway

martin100 12-31-2005 08:29 PM

I´m quite surprised that the Coupe is getting such a strong new engine. The magazines i read did not have this info strangely...

ae86_16v 01-01-2006 06:14 PM

0-60 in 6 seconds seems kind of slow for a 330bhp car.

Zot09 01-02-2006 12:55 AM

I don't think the car can possibly have a 6 second 0-60 time if it has 330hp ae86_16v. That would make it slower than the previous and current generation 330i, which just would not make any sense at all.

I know, all I am saying is that is what the article is speculating that it'll be around 6 seconds for 0-60 miles per hour. And yes that is pretty slow. So I guess it must be pretty heavy then.

"BMW's published number for the E46 330i is 6.4 with manual. It's down to 5.9 with the Performance Package (ZHP). The recently published number from BMW for the E90 is 6.1 with manual. No mention yet of a Performance Package."

Just_me 01-02-2006 03:47 PM

335i will do 0-100 in 5.5 sec according to BMW pressrelease. I bet carmags will get better times than that, just like they did with M5/M6.

it had 241 hp if im not wrong, and the normal had 230... something like that, bigger tires, less weight, better suspension... and M bodykits

chest3r 01-03-2006 08:23 AM

A few more spy pics, and an ulgy photoshop

Vansquish 01-03-2006 03:58 PM

The car looks reasonably sleek, but it's also kind of dumpy. The rear overhang is way too long and the wheels look lost in those arches...too much chubb if you ask me.

10 HP, higher redline, cams, intake, exhaust, and most importantly better gearing.

Here's some more pics. . . linked from the site.

Why does it need to be so big???

Banchi105 02-01-2006 08:59 AM

Kind of does looks Mercedes CLS.

Well have to see how one looks as a production run.

dutchmasterflex 02-01-2006 10:14 AM

oh my god... they've ruined it. it looks so bland and boring, the 4 door looks much better in my opinion..

keeping my fingers crossed for the new M3.. the M Z4Coupe looks beautiful though

Sir_GT 02-02-2006 11:45 PM

I'm frightened to think what the M3 will look like... sort of a Merc CL with flares almost. Fugly.

If I had to spend 50,000 GBP on a car, it would definitely be on the RS4 or the upcoming RS4 cabrio. When you spend that much on a car, it HAS to look good, because if it doesn't, and you just want the performance, you might as well just save some dosh and buy yourself a Mitsu or a Scooby.

dutchmasterflex 02-07-2006 10:15 AM

well.. atleast it looks nice from the rear :\

chest3r 02-07-2006 10:31 AM

In this last photo, the rear looks a bit weird  I wasn't expecting it to be so different from the 5 door version. But it doesn't look bad at all....

But I'm sure BWM won't disappoint me :P

Can't wait to see the first official pics 8)

Fleischmann 02-07-2006 10:48 AM

Well, this is a huge improvement over the 4 door 3 series. The rear lights make it quite pretty in my books infact.

Shinigami 02-07-2006 11:02 AM

Doesn't excite me, the high ass reminds me of an Alfa Romeo (was it a spider?).

I dunno, the BMW sedan look is not really my thing.

dutchmasterflex 02-07-2006 12:08 PM

Too bad they fucked up the rest of the design of the coupe ;\

lorbmw69 02-07-2006 01:05 PM

well it is huge...maybe that is why the 0-60 time i kinda weak. also what's with the dual-tailpipes? looks a little to0 similar to the 350z in that respect
