Personally I prefer the looks and performance of R1 , although I wouldn`t mind to own a Gixxer or an RR , the Kawa though too wild :?

What do you prefer and why ?

I have both the R1 and Vmax...... I prefer the Max over the R1.

1198cc, liquid-cooled, 16-valve, DOHC, 70° V-4, shaft drive. Looks interesting. What do V-4's sound like stock and with aftermarket exhaust? I know the Vmax has power, but how does it handle compared to your R1? I am assuming you prefer the Vmax over the R1 because of the low range power.

The bike is actually conceived in USA with Ed Burke as the primary designer. The legendary V4 is designed from the Royal star engine with the internals modified for 143bhp with the trademark Vboost system.

The Vboost system kicks in at 6000rpm and above all the way to the 9500rpm redline. This is the time where a butterfly valve opens to allow 2 CV carbs to feed the mixture into 1 cylinder.The feeling is very close to a turbocharged bike. So to sum up, this is the only naked bike that has strong lowend torque and also dizzying top end hp.

I had a supertrapp installed previously and the thing sounds like like a Chevy V8. Stock 1/4 mile stands at low 11s to high 10s.

There really is no ONE best. This question will always be answered subjectively. For instance, I think the current R1 is the best japanese liter bike on the market right now (which is why I bought it), where someone else may pick the ZX10 or 1000RR as being the best in their minds.

well what company makes the most top bikes? (quality, speed, ride, etc. etc.) Not really sales but that does have a role.

I think RC covered the following in a previous post:

Honda tend to be known for reliability and user friendliness, easy to ride.

Kawasaki tend to be known for the maddest bikes, the most HP etc. Not necessarily the easiest bikes to ride.

Suzuki have always been slightly cheaper to buy out of the big four, so I guess value for money might be a way of describing this company.

Yamaha make pianos. Go figure (That was just a sly dig at Min lol)

Seriously, Yamaha are good bikes, the majority of bikes I have had have been Yamahas. I don't really know what Yamaha's forte is though, I think they pioneer new ideas morer than the other 3 manufacturers though.

I was seduced by the 851 when I was but a wee lad... but thankfully had a chance to ride one.

They looked so romantic circulating on videos of races and magazine articles full of colourful prose... one particular article about a Ron Haslem hosted Ducati day at Donington had be desiring one so bad.

Then the 888 stormed onto the world stage, and the owner of a specialist bike store I used to visit as a teenager added an RC30 to his collection of 1969 CB750, CB1000's VF750's and K1000ELR etc .

I saw the RC30 and we all knew what the perfect hand crafted motorcycle can be. But still ahd an eye on a Duc.

Then the day came and I was offered a ride on his 888SP3. I almost pissed my pants... here I am a sitting astride my dream bike.

Well - what a ride. Thrilling as no other, scalpel handling, grunt to spare - and as uncomfortable as getting an enema through your nose.

It was a brutal unforgiving bike ti ride. Everything I imagined a factory race bike to be. Oh - and it broke down 2 days that first weekend ;) In typical Italian fashion.

I have had various rides on Ducs over the years - including a much desired 851 and other than a throbbing ride of giant jackhammer dildo like proportions, they are really nothing special. They have the same poser value as F-Cars.. :P

They demand constant and expensive maintenance and attention - and they are not that robust - or reliable ;)

Ducati make some of the greatest race bikes the world has ever known, but their road bikes are just over priced coffee shop decorations... :D

Even the newer ducatis? What about agusta or aprilia for reliablity or service/maintenance??

ducatis, agustas, aprilias....... there all in the same boat. nice exotic motorcyles that require you to take out a loan just to do the schedualed maintance the next month after you buy it.

i dont know much about bikes but im in love with the R1

my favorite japanese bike by looks/performance... i would say the Yahmaha YZ 1000...

but by experience, i havent rident too many crotch rockets all that quickly, but a GSXR 600 was the best ive ridden, and god, did its accelleration feel good... (only crotch rocket ive full throttled). since i dont ride one often, its something i could see myself buying.

for sound, i love the Honda Superhawk... ~but still a Buel IMO smokes anything else in the sound department :wink:

Disagree on the Buell, lad across the road from me has one, it just sounds loud and crap IMHO!

you are right in both ways about the Buell, it has a deep sound, a muffled v8 (maybe) but it is a awesome bike. i love the way they are different.

for something else the japs do will (and not available in the US for emmsions reasons) are those crazy 250CC 22,000 rpm rockets... not as powerful... but some countries have a graduating motorcycle licence process, and 250 is the largest displacement they can start on. those sounds are simply amazing... and non-existant here :|

I used to own one, a FZR250R. Redline was about 17-18k. They arent very quick though... maybe 40-45hp

The 400's rev nearly as high, and you're talking 60-65hp...

I now realize I have been living a lie...... god I am so stupid.... alright im going to go buy a ducati, and NOT wear my power ranger gear (cuase thats only for the japanese lovers) and im gonna go ride. but the sad part is... I wont be as quick as the japanese bikes, since they are slightly quicker... and ill have to work alot more to pay for all of the maintance involved in my new ducati... and the guys riding jap bikes will have more time to ride since everything is more reliable and you can do most of the work yourself if you do have to do everything. Those "Power Ranger" outfits, as you call them, are also worn by riders of your precious Ducatis and BMWs. I would also like you to point out which Japanese bikes have no exhausts on them. Then there is the fact that you think all Japanese bikes are full of stickers. That's just another point on your completely ignorant scoreboard. The first thing you need to do is learn how to spell when trying to make a witty reply. Second, get some facts on the bikes you are talking about, including the ones you supposedly love so much, and then come back and attempt, yes attempt, to have something intelligent and factual to say.
