GT-90 dual Turbo Jet Engine Hybrid V-12
 
I really don't want to sound like an idiot but I geuss I'm going to have to :(

What exactly is this engines Mechanics, how does a turbo jet engine make 6 cylinders? If you think its a stupid qeustion you don't have to answer But I would like to know what makes this engine work?

don't worry i'm not car ilterate I 'm actually halfway to getting my ASE certification.

A jet engine has no cylinders, so i am thoroughly confused by your question. where did u see this?

I know that back in the 60's chevy made "turbo-jet" engines, but that had to do with the intake system. Basically i think who ever wrote that is a dumbass.

The car never went into production so that page doesn't really have accurate information, and it didn't go into production because the car handled sooo bad.

Even if it couldn't turn, It was still fast as hell and would have looked alot better to have a black one of these than that ugly thing they are using for the new batmobile.

I think I recall another reason the GT-90 never made it was that the engine produced too much heat, something like 1400 degrees F. Wasnt safe to operate for long periods...cant remember where I heard that though.

Not only that, but they had major mechanical reliability issues with the prototype. It wouldn't stop overheating. It never was a production car though.

A lot of the other information on that page is inaccurate as well. I wouldn't put too much stock into anything you read there. :wink:

A turbo charger and a jet engine are similar from a mechanical point of view. You can even use a large turbo to make a jet engine. I gues that's what has confused the author.

^^ NO ... dude .. a jet engine is a combustion engine .... a supercharger or a turbo charger is just a a compressor .... ..

just to point out another obvious fact.. when you join 2 v6's you get a W12 engine.. (ie volkswagen) to get a V12 you combine 2 inline 6 engines..

or you could connect the engines end to end making a v12.

they are similar in the same way that they are similar to a fan. which really doesnt mean anything.

have you ever heard of a tesla turbine?
varioius projects have been completed turning a turbo-charger into a tesla-style turbine engine...

Yeah, its actually incredibly easy to make a jet engine from a turbocharger. Just whack a combustion chamber between the compressor and the turbine, pass high pressure high mass flow rate air through the comressor entrance, feed fuel to the combustion chamber, spark her up, and away you go!
A gas turbine engine is an Axial version of an automotive centrifugal turbocharger with the combustion chamber in the middle, and usually a series of compressor and turbine stages.

i dont belive a jet engine has any moving parts, it just compresses air to a very highpressure and temperature and shoots it out the back. pardon my stupid explanation. :roll:

ram-jets have no moving parts, and require special fluid dynamics upon start-up... and have higher efficiancy at speed then a turbine engine.
a turbine jet engine is an axial compressor, which is how they generate mroe then just thrust based power.

At first I was thinking that this made no sense, but then it occured to me that if you combusted fuel on the exaust side of the turbine, then you do have something similar to a gas turbine engine, I supose..
