www.ourcolony.net click the high, or low res and download the movie (it's zipped). Lotta detail in there. I think another of the ilovebees sagas is about to unfold :P .
Pretty awesome machine though and gaming should be spectacular soon.. Any idea when games will be announced?

coloradosilver 05-13-2005 12:44 AM

Wow, looks nice, and the performance and graphics sound like they'll be pretty good as well, especially if you owna hi-def TV.

Do you think the upcomming PS3 will measure up or be any better than this new X-Box 360?

evoWalo 05-13-2005 12:49 AM

All I want ot know is if Halo 2 for the original Xbox will work on it.

gobs3z 05-13-2005 01:09 AM

I assume all the old X-box games will work on the new one, that would be retarded if they didn't.

Quote:

The 360 will sport a custom 500 MHz ATI graphics processor with 10 MB of embedded DRAM. The processor will be able to produce 500 million triangles a second and have a pixel fill rate of 16 gigasamples a second.

The console will also have 512 MB of GDDR3 RAM operating at 700 MHz. The systems overall floating-point performance will be 1 teraflop.
I'm kind of confused, it says it's operating at 700MHz and it's supposed to be better than any PC out there, but how does that make sense if PC's are running at 3.4GHz?

evoWalo 05-13-2005 01:27 AM

that's the bus speed of the RAM not the processor. AFAIK the fastest DDR1 ram is clocked at 400MHz.

have you also heard of the Megahertz myth? AMD's chips are clocked slower but perform faster than Intel chips on a clock per clock basis.

gobs3z 05-13-2005 01:30 AM

Is there specs out for the processor?

evoWalo 05-13-2005 01:33 AM

I know they'll be using 2-3 PowerPC G5 processors. Clock speeds will not be faster than 2.7GHz.

Details from MTV.com

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/150...headlines=true

I know it's MTV but they were the ones who were tapped by MS to debut the 360.

The system has similar storage and memory to a PC, according to Microsoft, with 512 MB of memory (eight times that of the original console) and three 3.2 GHz processors, far more than the single 733 MHz processor of the Xbox. The new system is also equipped with a 20 GB detachable hard drive, compared with a non-removable 8 GB drive for its predecessor.

So it appears I'm wrong and I'm impressed that MS was able to get 3.2GHz PPC G5s processors

Sweet PGR3 is going to have the Mclaren F1 in road car form(LM I think) and Lambos.

The Sagaris is pretty sweet too. Best looking thing for me was Gears of War. GR3 looks cool, but people seem to replacing their pants all over the net because of it an I'm not really sure why.

5vz-fe 05-13-2005 02:53 PM

Hmmm...............PC games and Console games will soon meet each other.

he7lius 05-13-2005 07:25 PM

You also need a new TV to take full advantage. :D

SFDMALEX 05-13-2005 07:56 PM

Ill buy one.*

*When they hack it, it halves in price. :D

styla21 05-13-2005 09:06 PM

Here are a few videos for some of the games expected at launch. I guess they would still be heavily in development seeing the console is 6 months away.

Project Gotham Racing 3 E3 2005 Preshow Report

Though Microsoft had officially confirmed that Project Gotham Racing 3 was in development for the Xbox 360, we finally got a first glimpse at the game during the MTV unveiling of the next-generation console. The original Project Gotham Racing and its sequel delivered some great racing experiences for the Xbox, so the stakes will surely be high for this next installment. Sure enough, our admittedly-brief look at the game made us very excited to see more.

The most striking aspect of the visuals we saw had to be the realistic in-cockpit camera angles that occasionally flashed onscreen. Most racing games offer a static in-cockpit camera, usually with a totally transparent heads-up display--so it's like you're disembodied, rather than at the wheel of a high-performance sports car. Well, PGR3 seems to offer that high-speed you-are-there feel that most racing games lack. We could see the driver of the car shuddering from all the G forces, even as the car itself shook as it roared across the pavement. Whether the game will really be playable from these angles remains to be seen, but it's a cool effect.

The exterior shots of high-performance concept cars and at least one nice Lamborghini looked great...though, not necessarily so jaw-droppingly great as to be suggestive of a massive technological leap, especially in the wake of the outstanding, recently-released Forza Motorsport for the Xbox. We never got to see more than a couple of cars onscreen at a time, either, and the action all took place on what appeared to be a single track, set within an urban environment that could have been Los Angeles or something similarly filled with high-rises and spectators. Still, it was a satisfying first look at the game.

Previous Project Gotham Racing titles have flaunted massive amounts of content--near-countless unlockable cars and tracks, plus tons of music. We'd expect nothing less from PGR3, in addition to some fancy Xbox Live support. We'll bring you more information on this one as soon as possible.

So is this thing backwards compatible?

styla21 05-13-2005 11:24 PM

Yup, apparantly so

evoWalo 05-13-2005 11:47 PM

Probably not

styla21 05-13-2005 11:56 PM

Just remember that article is about 9 Months old Evo?.. Raises some good questions though, regarding the licensing issue with Nvidia and its old technology. :?
Can't remember where, but an E3 preview stated that the 360 was infact backward compatible. I guess all will be revealed next week though.. Fingers crossed. :)

evoWalo 05-14-2005 12:10 AM

That's probably why MS was vague on backward compatibility. MS and NV are probably quoting numbers.

Ten they have effectively cut there market share by 2 thirds.

At least PS2 allowed people to use their PS1 games during the ransition years - no compatibility would really sow sales as parents say "not at that price" - and game playing adults say "kiss my arse".. :P

evoWalo 05-14-2005 12:19 AM

NV doesnt care about 360. ATI's doing the graphics this time around. Maybe this is where VirtualPC comes in to emulate w/o stepping on NV's IPR.

Toronto 05-15-2005 09:48 PM

What 360 won't have....

* HD DVD support - It looks DVD is going to have to hold you. [Update: Brian@Kotaku swears Microsoft told him it will support HD DVD, but he also eats paste.]
* iPod-like MP3 hard drive - The unit can be removed to take with you, but does not function as a standalone MP3 player
* Media Center PC functions - While it will serve as a Media Center extender out of the box, it will not record shows or have a TV tuner.
* DVD Burner - This seemed like a long-shot, but some people were convinced.
* Wireless-only controllers - The default mode of operation is wireless (and that’s good), the controllers can be plugged in to USB slots to deal with charging and low-power.
* A proper logo font - In fact, the typeface being used for the logo looks awful, especially embossed on the tray door.
* Backwards compatibility - It is possible that the Xbox 360 can play regular Xbox games, but nothing has been said for sure.

most of this is a repost but some it wasn't talked about

I forgot to save the link, but backwards compatability has been confirmed. It seems not all games will have it though.
I'm guessing it'll be a lot like it was with the PS2. Most PS1 games would work, but there were a few that wouldn't.
