I dont buy phones every year. I buy a good one and use it for 2 or 3 years. I've been using the 8890 Nokia phone for a LONG time. I dont get the Camera on phones, but well there is nothing to do about it. This 8800 has one which adds on weight. I just like phones that look cool because they all Call and Receive calls. Thats all I care when talking about functionality... but it MUST be stylish like this one!

the styling of this phone would match well with my Gucci purse, lol, albeit a knockoff, but a very good one. and i do love classiness. the camera has never made sense to me either, but id take it on that phone just because its so beautiful. My biggest fear would be dropping it tho, i tend to do that all the time, and this one is too pretty to mess up like that. Does anyone know what phone carriers will be offering this 8800 series? i have verizon but ill be switching to t-mabile i think.

yep yep, Im so cheap that I use a prepaid service, I buy a card with minutes on it for when I need to use the phone.....otherwise it just sits there..........if I need to communicate with friends or work its either by MSN or my regular phone...

Well I guess I'm part of this club, same here, a phone is basically made to phone and that's it, all I want is for it to be compact and simple. If it gets stolen or if I break it, then I'll buy the same, instead of spending ridiculous amounts of money to have the latest :roll:

It will be GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900 so that means it will work for T-Mobile. It wont work for Sprint/Verizon/Nextel as those are not GSM. Any US phone carrier in the US (With CHIP) can have this phone working. It supposedly works in up to 5 continents. (This phone will cost around 700 US Dollars)

After this phone, the one I like the most is the Samsung E720. This has TONS of more specs, more options, memory card and stuff like that (plays MP3 record videos)...

your not alone.. I have a 5 year old phone and :-o I would buy something new just because of its age but all the new ones with shit quality cameras etc are worthless to me, I just want a phone that works with an address book.. nothing more and nothing less

I also want a phone that works and has an address book. I could care less of all other options as crappy camera phones... but I just MUST have one that looks cool LOL.

Nice vid and pics! Cell phones are getting more and more fancy these days. Before long, there'll be everything in your phone. There's a MP3 player (4 GB?) phone in development which is supposed to rival the iPod.

On a personal note, the US cell phone system is soo messed up. Such a convoluted mess of telecom bureacracy. Hopefully it will be deregulated and have more market competition before long, much like the rest of the world.

This is the 8890, and like you, I've been waiting for a new version of it for ages. I still have my 8890, all fuxed up... dropped it too much so its full of dents and scratches. I bought same phone 2 times (used same phone for like 3 or 4 years) as I much like the sliding thingie to answer phone than flip phones. Also compared to flip phones, it might be a bit taller, but much less thick... which means you can hold it much better. 8800 defenitelly my next phone.

I like Nokias menu's, but I must admit that Samsung phones are better.

Yup, that's the one. I had two of them too. Great phone. I used to swap out phones every six months. But that was definitely one of my favorites. So good that I brought twice.

But the record still goes to the Motorola V60. I had 5 of them, from 3 carriers. For a good stretch over 4 or 5 year period, I went back and forth from the V60. It was like an old girlfriend that I break up with and keep on going back to. :lol:

I think still, the V60 was my favorite phone of all time. The 8890 is a close second. And rounding it out, the StarTAC in at number 3.

startach i remember that... it was my first phone, i never tried the v60 but i did get to play around with one... i didnt like the menus on it so I stuck with the 8890 and still use it =D

$700 USD? Holy shit! I'll just wait a while for the price to come down. I really do like the Stainless Steel look, but for that price I could just a s well but a new 36 inch HiDef TV for my house. Sorry Nokia, with a price like that, it's way out of 99% of your customers budget to spend on a fuckin cell phone.

I like that Razr too, I was about to get it till I saw the 8800. The nokia one is smaller thats what I like... and also, I like the sliding thing instead of flipping open.

Ill just have to see it in metal and compare side by side with the RAZR before I choose one as I too agree with the "who cares" about options. Both have address book, both make calls.. its just a looks factor now...

I have a samsung E715 which looks exactly the same as the E720 , the plastics are shit , the phone is amazing but the quality is not good , thats why i want a metallic one , i had 2 8890s too , like 3 years ago . I hope i can sell the e715 this week so i can get the RAZR by the end of the week ... good bday present from me to me :D

I got more INFO on the 8800. Apparently, the 8800 will be released in Europe 2nd Quarter this year (soon) and it will operate in GSM Frequencies GSM 900/1800/1900

Now in a reading I made, this phone was listed as a successor of the Nokia 8910i. This got me worried as the 8910i does not work in the US/Latin America. So I did research and found out that Quarter 3 US will get the 8801 supposedly the same phone but operating 850 / 1800 / 1900 (hope the delay means the 8801 will be better in some way). 850 is a freq used by Cingular. I read that in city areas, GSM carriers (like T-Mobil) uses the 1900 freq, but those who have phones with the 850 band (like the RAZR) and are members of Cingular will get extra signal strength when away from the city... I NEED that 850 freq cuz here in the UNI, I lose signal if I go into the Gym or in some classes where windows are far away.

Well now the sad part is, this fukin phone will cost 750 EUROS! God damn and the worst part is that the reason is not because of the SPECS (as they are shitty when compared to other such as E715/E720), but the metal (understandable) and are you ready? because the RING tones and MESSAGE tones were composed by some A-hole orchestra director or something!

WHO fukin cares as long as it rings! I hate songs on phones, I always use the RING RING lol... the phone is too sexy though, I dont think I'd spend 900+ us $ on a cell phone so I'll wait a year till the price drops. Another thing making the price for this go high is its "Scratch resistant screen" and also they say that the screen was made in a stupid process like they make watches...

LOL! It has MP3 player and camera and video recording which means, fiddle around with the camera/mp3 player/games("The 8800 comes with a 3D imaging engine for gameplay too") and you get yourself some powerfull 2 hours (if that) talk time.

Well 750 euros is a lot , but prices drop when the phones arrive to the states , 700 dollars seems ideal ... remember the RAZR costing about that and more in ebay when it was launched , just wait 3 months after the launch and you can get it for 600 .

Plus remember that metal phones retain the value more than plastic ones , you can still get good examples of a 8890 at 200 dollars , which is more than much more advanced phones like the T610 or Z600

And "powerfull 2 hours talk time " ? WTF is that , i thought 7 to 10 hours was a standard this days

I used to work for nokias data department here in the states. They never came up with anything that blew my sox off. Even my 9290 was not very impressive. Most of the older phones like the 8890 were well made and adiquate but lacked in recent years for build quality. That company vertu used to make a 30000 dollar phone had real wood some of em granite and platinum too much in my opinion. Now i have switched over to motorola im using a v551. And as for the camera in the phone I think its fantastic. Here in fla we have no shortage of beautiful women and awesome cars I see atleast 2 exotic cars every single day, so you better beleave i have half of em on my phone already. But seriously even though the pics arent fantastic its still nice to have.

Ive always been a fan of nokia for some odd reason. I love their menues.

Its true about the holding their values... Im about to purchase my third 8890 till the 8801 is available at around 500$

Motorola, for me, has nasty menues... Nokia 1st, Samsung 2nd IMO

Too bad the 8801 has 3 hours talk time... hope they fix that before releasing.

Here's where I got that price from, I don't know that it's accurate.

SGH-D720 is at the top of my list. The slider has seem to have caught my eye, and this one is at the top of the list. Right now i've got a Motorola V551 and am very happy with it, it was cheap and does A LOT, even has bluetooth which samsung is just starting to put on their phones.

I'd rather spend my money on a versitile phone: treo 650. I bought the treo 600 and think it's worth every penny.
