Bang & Olufsen...
What do you think about these music systems? We recently bought one and I can tell you for sure that all these years that I was listening to music in fact I wasnt. :P The B&O take the music hearing experience to a whole new level, its something totally unparallel. You can understand what I say once you hear a track from these systems. As far as their design is concerned there r times that I feel embarassed when I sit next to it...
Any owners of B&O? |
i know it, also saw few TVs
but thats really expensive, please post which system you got, or pics, also price if its possible |
Well, my dad always had a B&O system since I can recall it.. always the same, he just upgraded the speakers some years ago, and not only the quality is top stuff, but the lifespan amazing too!
For sure if you have the money to invest in it and if you like to listen to music in the proper way, it is the way to go.. Still not easy to spend such amounts of money on such items IMO |
as TT says, if u have the money to buy them theyre worth every penny, super quality, super looks, super price thoguh

The system that my father bought is the Beosound 9000, and the speakers are the Beolab 5. A for their price... they costed much... TT after how many years your father upgraded the speakers?.. |
Uhm, I should ask him to be sure, but probably like 15 years or even more. It is also true that he doesn't listen to it 24/7 and he didn't change them because they were broken or not sounding good anymore, just because he wanted another model to hang onto the wall wich suited better with the rest of the furniture
|
15 years?... These are great news man!!
Cant wait to have them installed. My girlfriend's father suggested to my father to buy B&O. Im really looking forward to it! Oh and btw TT, who listens 24/7 music?...  |
Well since B&O comes from Struer which is where I have lived 18 out of 19 years, so i'm quite familiar with them :D And yeah, my parents and both my brothers have B&O tv, like half of the people living there....
Have anyone heard the new BeoLab 5 at full blow? I'm not the biggest fan of music systems but OH MY FUCKING GOD!! |
Bang & Olufsens are great. They are fairly overpriced and have a big focus on style rather than out and out performance, but they're still really nice. The BeoLab 5's are straight up awesome, definitely one of my favorite speakers. Incredible power and accuracy in the bass, but I also love the incredibly wide soundstage thanks to that acoustic lens technology. And the fact that they're self powered... :D
With the exception of the BeoLab 5s, there are better companies to look at for the money. Bowers & Wilkins (as Brembo mentioned) and Meridian are the first two that come to mind. Still though, B&O is awesome. You're a lucky guy. How many BeoLab 5's did your dad get? |
BW also make magnificent pieces. But their prices are very close to B&O. At least here in Hellas. Btw what do you guys think about Cyrus systems? We went to see them, their desig was veery minimal.
We bought 2 Beolab 5 speakers findleybeast. |
I had a set of B&O speakers which I sold. They were decent speakers.
|
My 2 cents: B&O is some nice stuff, but the prices aren't justified. IMO, it's too expensive for what you're getting. Sure, they do some very innovative things, but it's not an acoustic revolution.
BeoLab5 stand out in my mind. Not only do they use top of the line materials and engineering, but they look f'ing cool. They definitely sound good (the BeoLabs anyway. I haven't heard the much else) but to pay that much money for speakers is not worth it if you're only going for SQ. (You could get equally good if not better SQ for a fraction of the cost if you really wanted to. It would just have less sex appeal, and have a more complicated layout). So who would buy top of the line B&O? Very rich people that value style just as much as/more than they do acoustics. Their mid-line products blend into the market much better tho, and those are more easily justifiable. Edit: B&W (makes Nautilus) i have similar views on, but i'm actually more in favor of them. They don't put up these chi-chi stores in high end real estate areas trying to sell on hype and image like B&O does. B&O i think is more successful as a company, partly cuz their image, but I mite have more respect for B&W. Honsetly tho, I don't kno enuf to make firm decisions - both those companies are way outside of my budget. :D |
At my Hong Kong house, my family has several sets of B&O hardwares...we have the beosound system set throughout the house, and 2 tvs within the house...also the fones are pretty good too...rite now, in my toronto home, i'm using 2 of the B&O fones...meh, not much to say but looks kewl...i'm lately thinkin of gettin the b&o mp3 player, since i broke my iriver recently...btw i heard...urban legend or rumor of somekind that all the B&O products are just reversed engineered products from other companies, ie. crack open the shell of a B&O TV, you'll see sony circuitry inside or something like that....haven't done it myself but it could be...
|
My grandma's house has B&O TV and cinema system that has a whole combo magigi in it .. braaddyy awsome.. picture is crisp .. the sound is awsome .. i swear its like .. ahh cant explain..
u need to live the experiance to understand .. Pok |
You think B&O is good, try Linn. Top notch I must say.
|
nobody denied that there are better companies. Meridian, Krell, McIntosh, B&W, Thiel, Wilson, Audio Research, Avalon... there are many. B&O is still a hell of a company tho, and makes some really awesome stuff.
|
^ Please put me down for "Ditto."
One addition tho: those other smaller, less known companies get a little more respect in my book. Just cuz I like the underdog perhaps, or that if i own a more rare piece of art/music/high tech equipment...it makes me value it more. That's just my opinion tho. It's a moot point, and strong arguments can be made for either side. |
I think it's smooth, elegant and good sounding...
But it's also very expensive, so I can't afford it.. |
B&O its good but i prefer INFINITY !!
|
i heard that B&O plasma are just basicley fijitsu plasma's with B&O branding and price tag..
|
Just out of curiousity who has the best stuff for sound quality forget about asthetics and price. What sounds the best. Ive heard very good things about linn, and harmon kardon. Jazz and Classical music seem to cover the widest spectrum of sound. Ive heard several musicians toting the bose sound wave stuff. Any input would be great
|
I have a pair of Bang & Oulfsen ear phones, i cant get over the sound quality and clarity. They are worh the high price tag, the sound really needs to be heard to be fully appreciated, its excellent stuff. They are coming on three years old, still current model and shape, they havent changed it...its great.

GTX28 - look at Findleybeast's list before. Any of those will produce superlative SQ - 99+% of humans will never be able to tell the acoustic differences between those companies.
Speakers will (more than likely) never be able to 100% reproduce sound that matches the acoustic wave patterns of things in real life - this is inherent in all current speakers, as they change an electrical signal to acoustic energy. Somewhere during that conversion of energy, there will be a loss of energy to heat, and some distortion. Good speaker companies (like those all listed before, and in the mobile audio world some of these companies: Focal, CDT, DLS and Morel) will reproduce sound that is so close to the original reproduction, the vast majority of humans will never be able to tell a difference. In the end, for true audiophiles that can really pick out sonic details, the choice will come down to personal preference - NOT which company is the "best." Perhaps one day in the future with some crazy techology there will be perfect replication of sound, but as it stands now, the best you can do is judged not by the company you buy, or how much money is in your wallet....it's all about how well your ears can listen.; |

Indeed, if you want the ultimate, go with linn. B&O are damn good but have become more fashionable to buy for the name rather than the outright sound performance

3 seperate amps? Thats the funiest thing I have ever heard. I guess its the fad for rich idiots who just go for the price tag. Since when is music supposed to be surround? when a band performs you are in front of them, they do not surround you. So when people talk about music and surround sound it just show that they are morons. Full 3d sound in Stereo? What the fuck is that? You mean 2 monitors and a delay surround emulation? All you can get from two monitors is cheap emulation of actuall 3d sound, they do it by simple delays, you can never feel as if something is in behind you when the speaker is in front of you. If you want the best sound from the good old CD(not dvd audio or SACD) then get your self a CD player build around the TDA1541 DAC, find your self one of those home made english transistor amps(none of that tube shit, another fad for wannabe audiophiles) and some JAMOs. If anybody is serious about superior audio quality you can not just go out and buy the stuff from the catalog. You have to listen to hundres of different amps and speakers to find the best stuff. |
Well "best" is a matter of opinion... when you've got enough money it's down to personal choice which one is "better" and which one sounds "best" for you.
Different companies generally have a trademark sort of sound but yeah, if you really want the best for you, you've got to try hundreds of combos in the same or similar settings to where your system will be |

Laugh out fucking loud! Wires play as big a role as speakers...... You have wires running to the frequency of each cone AHAHAHAHAHAHAH And WTF is that for my friend? They make some special 15-100hz, 100-500hz wires now? AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAH Its called a friggin crossover................ What are your amps frequency depended aswel? So you have a woofer amp, a high frequncy amp?.................lol Your hillarious. And no I dont need no pictures, Ive heard enough. And you have to learn to read too. DVD Audio is better then a normal audio CD because it allows 3x the sampling rate and higher dynamic range. Oh and as for sounds around you, read my posts again. Thanks for making my day, I had quite a laugh. |

im quiet amused with the insults thrown at each other here.. look what ever sounds good to your ear i must say ... u can have a 10000000000 dollar setup and a cheap 200 stereo from you local market. if you dont know what to listen for and how to listen to music there all gonna sound the same ..
but i must admit my grandma's B&O is the shizzle keep it rizzle :P |
Thank you all for your input im going to take a look and see what i favor. I tend to hear and notice alot more than most so i prefer higher quality equipment.

THx Ikon2003 for the input i will check out those companies from his list. Sfdmalex I checked out some Jamo stuff looks like a high quality product sexy lookin too hehe. I will see if anyone in town carries them thx for the info. Just out of curiousity, does anyone have any webbys for dvd sound, sound tuning utilities like whitesound etc. Also any webbys with definitions for the ratings on the equipment class a b c d etc. In mobile audio a class d amp is supposed to be pretty good stuff but in the home theator stuff it seems class a is the highest?? so anyhelp is always appreciated. |
Amplifier rating classes has gotten a lot more complicated in recent years. There are still the most common ones - A, AB, B, and D - but there are new technologies composing classes G, H, I, T, X, and there are probably others. Many of those are essentially modified versions of class D. Wikipedia has a pretty good rundown of most of the amplifier classes here
here's a quick summary of the common ones Class A - most accurate, but extremely inefficient. Too inefficient to use in many amplifier settings Class B - Much more efficient than class A, but they inherent distortion and so aren't very well liked Class A/B - A combination of class A and B, higher efficiency than A but more accurate than B. This is the most common in speaker amps Class D - Output is just on/off pulses, no variation. Extremely efficient, but not typically accurate enough to operate full range speakers. Generally used only for subwoofer applications |
time for this topic to take a trip to the correct forum :P

You are all a bunch of audio-video nerds.
The only sound you need is a straight pipe push rod V8. Period. You want music? Go for a drive. When at home - screw the radio/cd/audio crap - pure silence and read a good book, the sound of children playing in the back yard - the clinging, clanking of dishes in the kitchen as family shares company - watch a movie on TV - go to sleep.. :) ;) I never did get peoples obsession with audio systems... if you want the "real deal" go listen to a concert. Don't even get me started on then stupid iPod draped idiots wondering around town... :) ;) :P - but that's another topic... :) |

My first car was an 85 Camaro had a great exhaust system when i got it but no radio. I wanted to blow a bunch of cash on a new radio and my dad asked why sayin all i need is the sound from my tail pipes, and thats all i had for a few months. Unfortunatly im not married yet so no kids no wife. So quiet back yard at the moment. That rules that out. O and how come go surf jabbas world and find something to be creative and give back wasnt among your colorful gripes lol. PS:RC did you get my pm im curious to see if your ok and what not???? |
