BMW rumours

Everso is sadly gone for a while. Someone will have to take his place and feed JW with some hot new rumours. Here is my first try. :)

1.
1er will come as a 3-door in early 2006, and as 3-dr or 5-dr touring in 2007

2.
2er will come as a coupe and soft top cabrio in late 2006/ early 2007, and debuts in U.S. market in 2007; we will see no M1 (hatchback), but M2 coupe and cabrio will appear (engine yet unknown)

3.
4er (a folding hard top coupe/cabrio) will be a substitute for a 3er cabrio and will come with carbon fibre (CF) or composite materials (metal + plastic) roof

4.
- M3 will feature 440HP V8 engine, and will be unlimited to 190mph - more CF, plastic and composite materials will be used to reduce the weight
- there will be M4 with same characteristics
- CSL models will be M's with even more powerful engines (+10%) and even more weight reduced

5.
both, RFK and crossover will also feature a CF roof

6.
5er and 6er will adopt 7er's engines and make 640i, 540i and 550i, 650i in the late 2005/early 2006

7.
6er will go diesel - 635d and 645d in the sight (mid 2006)

8.
"iS" designation will be replaced with "Si" - for powerful sport models, and will no mer be limited to X - family

9.
-X5 will adopt new engines from 5er and 7er when it come as a coplete new model in mid 2006
- X3 will face a minor facelift (redesigned and half-painted bumpers + interior materials) for MY2007 and engines updates

10.
- Z4 M is coming as MY 2007 with 400HP V8 - detuned futer M3's engine
- Z4 facelift is heading for MY 2007 - expect more agressive front and some minor changes in the back and interior
- BMW is considernig adding smaller Z2 and bigger V10 Z9 Spyder in the range; but no Z4 coupe

11.
BMW 330Si will come - with over 300HP I6 two stage turbo petrol engine, to fight with Lexus IS350 and new Infiniti G35

12.
RR is launching LWB Phantom in the fall; new Chronicle cabrio based on EX100 concept - arrival in late 2006 / early 2007. They are considering to go downmarket - with a sedan and coupe - to fight the Bentley.

13.
new 7 series planned for MY 2009; expect revolutionary design again, I-drive and dash will be almost a carbon copy of a Z9 concept dash and idrive; idrive will be built in-house - much improved; new advanced safety features; more powerful engines - even petrol turbo ones; EVT engines possible; will come with ZSG gearbox

:D

that is soon. It says MY=Model Year 2007. Right now we are in Model Year 2006, atleast from Mercs way. I think BMW might be going into 2006 this summer, and that put MY 07 at fall or maybe spring of next year. Z will be able to tell you better.

ferrarif1fan89 04-09-2005 12:50 PM

what is the rfk? is it the new minivan?

noosee 04-09-2005 12:58 PM

I heard that M3 will have 400 hp not 440, but if it will happen it will be nice :)

gobs3z 04-09-2005 01:08 PM

BMW will merge will Honda
I really want to see a Z9 come out!!!

ZfrkS62 04-09-2005 02:31 PM

i don't know what is going on in the european market, but the 2 and 4 series are not going to happen. This has already been confirmed by BMW. Suffice to say that the M4 you speak of is really the M Roadster under the Z4 chassis.

Umm...no. The 5 and 6 ALREADY have the N62 4.4L. hence the 745, 645, and 545 designations. The x40 designation went out with the introduction of the E60 in 2004, and x50 designation went with the E38 750iL in 2001 when the E66 760Li came out in 2003.

Again, too late. The X5 ALREADY has the N62 but in 3 forms. 4.4, 4.6 and 4.8 (see my engineering designations chart if you're confused)

where are you pulling this stuff from? the Z9 concept was shot down sometime last year if i remember correctly. and see my previous comment about the 2's

They do have the 4.4l but they are likely to get those new V8s that appeared in the facelifted 7er. x40 - V8 Valvetronic, biVANOS 4000 cm³,225 kW/ 6300 rpm,390 Nm/3500 rpm
x50 - V8 Valvetronic, biVANOS, 4799 cm³ ,270 kW/ 6300rpm, 490 Nm/3400rpm (slightly different tune than in the X5 iS where it puts out 265kw) :)

Explained above.

Well, it might have been shot down but recently some new rumours about a V10 roadster have appeared.

THere isn't much of a change in the new N62 for 2006. Nothing worth mentioning anyway. And it's rather logical that it wil be phased into all V8 cars, especially with the increasing emissions laws.

But essentially what you've claimed as a rumor is just past tense :P

as for the Z9, it's still not going to happen. That article is quite old and there is NO confirmation of the car ever going into production. There is no point in making the car. As it was said in the article, it depends on the figures for the M6 and M6 CSL. the sales figures for the 6 series in Europe predict that the M6 is going to render the Z9 pointless. The M5's main market is going to be the US as it has been in the past, whilst the M6 will more than likely be Europes hot car. Therefor the Z9 isn't going any further than the drawing board.

I can not really understand. The 5er and 6er have yet to get the new versions of the V8 so why the past tense ?

Because it's still the same engine. On monday i'll look up what they did to it, but i have a feeling it's got something to do with the simplification of the valvetronic that is being introduced with the N52B30. But then again the only reason the M73 recieved the TU designation was the introduction of the 120AMP coils in the cats to decrease their warm up time. Same engine but an updated Cat. Converter. So really this is the same engine that will be finding it's way into the 5, 6, 7 and X5. Hence it has already happened. Currently there is a bulletien out to retrofit the new eccentric shaft into the N62 if it starts running rough. so baisically we can make the new engine out of the old one by fitting updated parts into the engine and reprogramming the control units. (should this be the whole reason behind the "new engine" idea)

mv 04-09-2005 06:36 PM

Ok, they do have the same basis, but from the point of view of an ordinary customer it's like that : If he wants a 5er/6er equipped with a V8 now there will be merely one choice : the 4.4l with 333hp whereas in the near future there will be 2 "new" powerplants, the 4l and the 4.8l.

It is a matter of the point of view.

FoxFour 04-09-2005 06:42 PM

Styling. What about the styling? IMO this new style is bogus. The current M3 is the most sexy. The new M5 is fantastic engineering-wise but falls short styling-wise. The rims it comes with are dull.
Hopefully someone can tell me that BMW will be starting to shy away from the 'Bangle' design.

ZfrkS62 04-09-2005 06:46 PM

the 4.8 is already in the X5 4.8is though. so really, it should read 5er and 6er to get X5 4.8

but as for the 4.0, i don't think that is going to be resurrected outside of the E90 M3 engine. that would create too much confusion, bringing in 540 so that the lines would go 525, 530, 540 and 545; 640, 645; 740, 745, 750 and 760

so how much of a cluster fuck that would be?

The 4.8l really is in the X5. But the facelifted 7er has a moderately different version which puts out considerable :) 8hp more.

Hmm, I don't see that happening... The sales say the "Bangle design" is working, so...

I really couldn't tell you fox. The new X5 isnt' due until 07 or 08 when the X5 Coupe will come out (STILL hunting down pics. I;ll put them in my BMW thread when i find them.

The 7 series wont' be replaced until at least 2009. and the 5 until 2011. So there is really no way to tell if they are going to veer away from Bangle's ideas.

again, i'll see if i can confirm this on monday. i need to check and see if they mention this in the new engine's training book.

Well, Adrian VanDooky (sp?) is the new Chief designer so I say the next generation of BMW will probably be more of a evolution of current designs rather than revolutionary like the current ones from the 80s through the 90s. (Remember he was the one that help pen considerable features in the Flaming Surface designs.)

ZfrkS62 - what about the rumour to the "Si" designations? And the fact that it is moving across the entire model range? Something underneath the M series? I guess that replaces the ZHP packages? Although I find turbo charging hard to believe.

I don't know about the Si badge. it really doesn't make any sense since the only car that still has an 'is' is the X5 4.8. I dont think changing the badging on the Sports Packages would be a good idea (330SiC?!) but of all the rumors posted, i would say this one is the least important.

And i have already heard from our rep that yes, there will be a turbo charged 3.0 later on.
