New Mazda MX5 - Miata

Here are some pictures of the new model.

I think the car is a lot more appealing.
The interior seems a LOT better, although the steering wheel and instruments resemble the Z4.

Hope the handling remains as good as the old one, that was elected by Autocar Magazine has Britain's Best Handling Car!!

not bad.. resembles the roadster concept they revield a year or two back.. interior is definately nice.. what engines are they puttin in that thing?

cooperluke 02-24-2005 10:39 AM

Yep, it resembles the Ibuki prototype.

I heard of a 1.8 126bhp, and a 160bhp version. Don't know if it's just that.

I think the MX5 deserves something like a 1.8 200bhp

Something not much heavy, but around the 200bhp mark.

dutchmasterflex 02-24-2005 10:47 AM

i think it deserves some rotary power.. :) i know chances are very slim.. but it would be a damn fun car to drive

cooperluke 02-24-2005 10:53 AM

Rotary Power.... not a bad option.
It would have a light engine, but yet capable of developing some BIG horsepower.

But, I don't know if Mazda want to risk the spectacular fame of the Miata in putting a potencially non-reliable engine in their best seller.

:)

I agree with you, a 200hp engine would be perfect for a light chasis as the Miata's.
Yep.. it would be an S2000 killer! ;)

JiggaStyles09 02-24-2005 12:51 PM

well i hope they would introduce a mazdaspeed version of it like they did with the current miata. and yes 200 hp seems appropriate :D

malte 02-24-2005 01:00 PM

great car, any guesses on a price range?

findleybeast 02-24-2005 02:12 PM

using the rotary for the mazdaspeed would be money. either that or offering it as an option opposed to the normal four-banger.
still tho, despite its great handling, I think its a car for little girls. It looks so childish. Wasn't a fan of the old MX5 either, even tho I respect it :|

TransAm 02-24-2005 03:34 PM

I think this is ugly, especially the front - Saturn VUE headlamps. Eeeurgh.

Interior is nice.

I'd take a current shape Madzaspeed Miata over this new one!

Mazdaspeed? Don't know it... have pics and specs of it?

noosee 02-24-2005 04:16 PM

Very nice car :D
They should do something with 200 hp.
It would be a killer.

Vansquish 02-24-2005 04:49 PM

I don't like the front end too much...the Ibuki concept managed to keep the look of the original and more recent Miatas, but also look new. This looks a little too fussy, and what's with the fucking auto-gearbox!?!?!?!?!

Look at Mazda US website

The tan plastic looks very cheap, like in the current model.
additional pictures... (for TT ;))

ferrarif1fan89 02-24-2005 07:28 PM

i like it much. :D

sentra_dude 02-24-2005 09:29 PM

Not sure about the front headlights...and the front wheel arches, maybe just need to get used to them. It looks great from the side profile, except for those damn euro-tailight things.

That interior shot scared me for a second...fucking automatic!

Sir_GT 02-24-2005 11:26 PM

I prefer this over the old one. If it's going to be a 1.6, somebody ought to drop a turbo or a supercharger in it. ;)

Don't fancy the rotary engine though. There's no fun in checking the dipstick every other fill up.

neilo63 02-25-2005 06:24 PM

Very nice, i like i like alot. Needs more power though.

Anonymous 02-26-2005 06:29 PM

Hmm, don't like the headlights. I think the current edition looks more aggressive. But over all, nice improvements on the old model.

The interior, especially the steering wheel, and the cluster does resemble the Z4.

ZfrkS62 02-26-2005 06:58 PM

Never been a big fan of the Miata. The interior has improved quite a bit, but i don't think the exterior is doing any better. :?

mv 02-27-2005 06:03 AM

The miata is generally taken as a very nice appealing car so why to change it. :) But they could've used nicer and more futuristic gauges. :|
