Cars, Male or Female?
 

I was on cruising my way to a mates house tonight. My girlfriend turns around and said to me. Huni, do you think in a stupid sense cars are like people. Now what she meant was something along the lines of. The motor is the heart. Windscreen wipers are eye lids. Sun visors are eye lases. The siren/horn is its voice etc. etc. I think everyone gets my point.
So then she asks me, "what would you consider a car to be. Male or female?"
I reply, female... My only reason is silly aswell but hey... I told her its because of the fact that, the fuel pump nozzles are the males in the car business. The fuel tank is what makes the car female...
Going on we were into the conversation, like full on.. She goes to me. "You see, i always told you girls are better and guys cant be without us." All i could think of in reply was something we also mentioned in the conversation. Where as the gearbox is the male part of the car. :P sounds stupid, i know, i know! But since the car is nothing without a gearbox. Same goes for the gearbox is nothing without a car.

Enough about my conversations when I am stoned, how about someone elses opinion wether a car is male or female.. It is doing my head in and got me thinking hard!

Well female is the obvious answer for me: in Italian the car is "female".. in english it is IT, but in italian we only have male or female connotation.. and the car is the latter :D

it depends on the car's personality. My Datsun was a female since she never wanted to start on cold mornings and had a tendency to not listen to me when i tried to tune her carbs (i got a call from the car's new owner yesterday [female who also owns a 280Z, i'll try and direct her here :mrgreen: ] saying that they were having issues with the carbs) to this day the rear carb (cyl, 4-6) STILL runs lean. This is partially the reason i named her Jezebelle :roll:

the van i drive now is male, just because i don't want to drive it (i prefer riding in a female thank you very much :P ) but the majority of cars i come across are female, i think.

i think pretty much everything with an engine is a 'she' its just one of those things. Its accepted that that is what it is - boats are always she or her, and even something like a Lamborghini LM002 will still probably be referred to as a female. Odd, but i think thats just the way it always has been

now wait a second, what do you think the General Lee is then? As pissed off as that engine is, there is no way the General can be female. WWWWWAAAAAAAYYYYYY too much testosterone under that hood :D

come to think of it, any engine with more that 400 cubic inches is male. Maybe there should be a horsepower limit too on which engines get labeled male and which ones get labled female, because the 3 litre V10s in F1 can't be female either...

If we were to generalize and not take personality (like zfrks mentioned) into consideration. It would make cars female, just because!
I really like that idea of power rating to be the key in determining the difference.

Like I mentioned it was doing my head in. I thought I was going stupid and wasn't sure if i should have shared this information. I had to really think a while before I posted. I was scared of the initial reaction of members thinking im loony! O well! lol :P

O and we did mention one other similarity in cars and people. Which is looks, being ugly or hot etc. etc. :)

i say all BMW's are female. the Ms happen to be a little dykish though. The M5 is female but has alot balls. The M roadster does look a bit feminine until you drive it. sure she has a big ass, but once you take her through some turns, you would swear it was a bit too macho for its own good :shock:

i think men generally will refer to their cars as female..though i don't think i've ever heard of a truck get called female, strange huh?

but anyway, even my girlfriend thinks her car was female (it just got totalled after some dumbass plowed into it after going to fast around a corner and blew out a tire :roll: ) i only have one female friend that thinks her car is male..but i think it's a wussy male since its a Geo Metro :lol:

Porsches, Aston Martins, new Lambos, and Ferraris are beautiful, lean, athletic women (man, this making me feel all warm inside). And also the cars have been described as 'wide hipped,' also a feminine trait. The new Beemers to me seem to be a girl that at first you were disgusted to see, and then the more you look at her the more you want to tap dat ass. Also cars, planes, trains, and boats are all women because they are all very complex, and to get her to move the way you want her to, you've got to do everything in correct sequence, right pressure (wink wink), for the right amount of time, and also you gotta know what you're doin. This is making me want to drive with a very hot woman, so I can have double the pleasure, if ya know what I mean.

In spanish its EL (male) auto, but you can also say LA (female) movilidad. In german its DAS (neutral) so well as TT said, in italian its female, so lets not base ourselves on this. As to the part about the male part being the gear knob... what about cars with Flappy pedals? They would have NO male parts.

Instead of looking at the car part by part, I can say if a car is male or female by the looks of it. For example, the NEW mustang entirely looks like an angry man. While the Infiniti G35 looks like a girl. The shape of the headlights are shaped like girl eyes. So IMO it depends on the car in question. (You cant say a Ford F150 is female now can you?)

Someone asked me how much hooch i had been smoking when i mentioned its cultural. I am now seriously beginning to think its got something to do with culture. No way you can judge from that. You can say that if its manual, the driver is a MAN and if its auto, a WOMAN or kind of Queer lol!

Well that was the easyest way. If not then they are all female, becuase after its guys that give names to every thing, from ships and plans to cars, and they all end up being female names. And when your swearing at your car/truck, your usaly saying some thing like " come on you bitch!' or "damn bitch blow a seal"

it depends on how you look at it. my friend thinks trunks are pretty does that mean a big F350 Super Duty is a female?!!? usually trucks and suv = men and normal and sports cars are female EX. Eleanor and the other cars in Gone in 60 Seconds. but then the Hummer was a female too
