This car will give an idea how the next XK will look like. Personally I think this car looks gorgeous but it looks a bit too Aston Martin like, expecially like the upcoming DB8 (AMV8 Vantage Concept). I also think Jaguar previous conceptcars had a far sexier interior. Ok maybe not all of it could be fitted in a production car, but still, this looks a bit to normal for a Jaguar interior

Not a big evolution of the current XK :? I regret that, they should have change the lights .

pzgren 01-11-2005 08:38 AM

hmm, don't like it. it looks like a mix of different cars but the siluette is the same than the existing xk. nothing special in my opinion

stradale 01-11-2005 08:59 AM

I like it and I do think it is a big step up from the previous XK. It looks a bit like an Aston, but I don't mind. Astons look good. There are also some details from previous concept cars by Jaguar. It would be nice if they finally their way into a production model via the new XK.

The thing I don't like are the wheels. Too big and too much bling. I don't think wheels like this will be on the production version. Besides, they knew they were going to unveil it in Detroit, so that might have something to do with it as well.

mindgam3 01-11-2005 09:49 AM

"aluminium accents and leather inside, the 2+2 sports 21-inch wheels, telematics, a paddle-operated gearshift, and aluminium bodywork and chassis"

"The coupe rides on 21-inch alloy wheels with custom Pirelli tyres while new chrome gills behind the front wheels aid engine cooling and also improve aerodynamic flow to the rear"

"Thanks to a technologically advanced aluminium architecture – which is around 40 percent lighter and 60 percent stiffer than a standard steel body – and V8 powertrain assembly, the car would be capable of reaching 60mph in less than five seconds and a top speed north of 180mph."

Doesent sound like the old XK to me :P Although it looks similar, it is no way the same. What would be the point of making a new model that looks totally different from the one it replaces :P

Wow nice pics and this Jaguar is looking really good but is it just me
that i think this a pretty much a "copy" of Aston Martin DB9!!!

23790554 01-11-2005 09:53 AM

definitely too aston marton

DeMoN 01-11-2005 11:19 AM

there is something I dont like about it but I still cant make out what it is.

takata 01-11-2005 12:15 PM

they shd have worked more on the lights ... looks outta place on such a car

adamwich 01-11-2005 12:18 PM

Thanks for the pictures! I think it is beautiful!

noosee 01-11-2005 12:23 PM

Beautifull, but 2 close to DB9 I think :D

Fleischmann 01-11-2005 12:32 PM

Ripping the design off Aston Martin...taking the easy route... they even made it into a liftback, just like the AMV8.

SlickDizzy 01-11-2005 02:03 PM

If only they sold it with a manual transmission...

Gnome 01-11-2005 03:12 PM

I don't know if I like this. In general it is really beautiful, but I find more flaws than nice details when I try to be concrete.

It is only the edge curving over the rear wheels (shoulder pads, hips or whatever) that make it look like an AM. Still, why copy such a distinct feature from your sister manufacturer?
The front lights are no good.
The size of the wheels would be fine if they were less edgy and racing inspired. Jaguar is supposed to be more elegant than that.
I can agree that the interior is a bit too boring, even though it's quite stylish.

On the other hand I love the air intakes in the sides of the front bumper, and the exhaust tips.
The texture of the aluminium in the interior is nice.

I have nothing wrong with it looking like the DB9 after all the XK8 looked very similar
to the DB7. But with that said I think that it looks ugly. Oh it does have some good
features but they just don't seem to fit together in seamless harmony. The front lights
look way out of place(they should be more rounded), the rear lights look like they
came off of a Kia Amanti, and though general look of the front end looks like a ford
tourus. If you look at the front end you'll notice that there is some very abrupt transisions
from round edges to angular edges. It has no elegance. :|

ikon2003 01-12-2005 12:40 AM

Very good looking, but as i saw and as everyone else pointed out: too much Aston to it. almost feel like it is stealing the style.

I do however, like the rear lights on it. I find them very stylish, mostly because I'm used to associating them with the Fuora Black Jag Concept - a 600+ bhp monster car with astonishingly unique and flavorful looks.

Thanks for posting hi res pics.

If you look closely you'll see the interior main lines of this XK concept are almost exactly the same as the DB8/AMV8. Personally I would prefer an interior like the R coupé or the F-type. They look also mouth watering good, but this way this Jaguar would kept its identity. Now it's just Aston's little brother. I don't think that's good, certainly not since both belong to the same group and will have a car in the same class. They would have a broader group of clients if both looked different with each their own identity. That would cost a bit more, but in the will make more cash in the long run.

ikon2003 01-12-2005 01:45 PM

^Incidentally, Aston is coming out with their own "little brother" - the AMV8 Vantage (georgeously good looking too... much nicer than this imo).

i guess this car then gets relegated to the ranks of "slightly less attractive younger cousin"

If the jag came out in this specific form, I would find it even better looking than the aston...but as ever, a few progressive details and gimmicks will be dropped, 18s will be applied and we've got another boring jag :)

For the last time, it's not stealing or like it's stealing. Ian Callum, who designed the Jaguar Advanced Lightweight Coupe also designed the DB7, so it's not stealing or like stealing at all.

Nonsense! Having similar layout doesn't mean that it's almost same. They look completely different.

ferrarif1fan89 01-12-2005 09:28 PM

i HATE those lights. looks like a cartoon. not elegant

findleybeast 01-12-2005 11:45 PM

Yea way too Aston-ish. I actually looked at the photos before the title of the thread and was confused to see Jaguar in the title. Still gorgeous though... says something about Aston doesn't it?

I didn't said they look almost the same, I said the main lines of the interior are the same. And I personally think this is a bit of a shame, having the recent Jaguar conceptcar interiors in my mind. I would love to see one of those (or the same style) in a production Jaguar, hence the car would look more Jagy. Now it feels too much AM.

You know I think the current XK still looks great after 10 years. You can't say that about many cars.

But then, when the XK first came out it didn't look that great. But the design now wore on very well with time.

Maybe this will be the same?

ikon2003 01-15-2005 07:17 PM

Hm, at least it seems to have quite a bit of trunk space. And while looking at that pic of the trunk open, the tail lights seem to resemble those of the SLR, with that odd boarder of LED style lights.
