The ultimate R34? **Pics re-hosted by TT**

Some rich French guy bought his R34 GTR with the idea of going a little wild...

Basically he wanted a copy of the JGTC (Japanese Touring Cars) Skylines. However no-one sold the wide arch kit to non race teams..

So - he got it copied - in carbon fibre...

No only that - he got all the drivetrain redesigned, completely redesigned the suspension & everything about the car. (rather than the barry method of some spacers lol )

The end result is below...

However - he didnt just stop there because he wanted the engine to be a bit special. So what he thought he would do is drop a V12 Quad turbo engine in it. Now it's actually 2 RB26 Skyline GTR engines welded together to create one big V12, rather than the Skyline straight 6...

Target of a reliable 1000bhp, target weight of 1000kgs. 1000bhp per tonne with a proper race car chassis, suspension & sequential gearbox...

Does it get any madder?

I think I am in love lol

jon_s crosses fingers hoping it is not a repost.....but now has a strange feeling that it is, and from a while ago too lol bolloxs :P

TT 12-08-2004 06:52 PM

No repost I think, and mad for sure, but the "reliable 1000 hp" part and the car beeing taken around on a truck are a bit fishy together :D

jon_s 12-08-2004 06:53 PM

hahahaha, don't think it is road legal....or should that be, I hope it is not road legal! That would explain the flat bed.

TT 12-08-2004 06:57 PM

Ah well yes indeed I doubt French laws would ever allow such a thing to hit the roads legally :D

astonmartinandy 12-08-2004 06:59 PM

That is incredible! Not my taste in the aesthetics department, but you cannot fault someone who builds a V12 out of two RB26's

sentra_dude 12-08-2004 07:18 PM

I read about this car in a car magazine a while back, glad to hear its still around, and the engine is very impressive. All I knew was that it had a V12...didn't know it was made from two RB26's with 1000hp!

Even if it was road legal...just look at the ride height, and I'm guessing it has pretty close to a racing suspension and slick tires...not exactly road friendly. ;)

Must be fast with 1000hp and 1000kg.

gigdy 12-08-2004 07:29 PM

bandwidth all sorts of exceeded

findleybeast 12-08-2004 07:59 PM

^^--- ya bandwidth exceeded for me too, but it sounds awesome. appears like the guy may have taken some engine ideas from TVR (speed 12 engine anyone?). Imagine seeing a monster like that on the road? it does make me wonder how he fabricated a crankcase for it though, since he doesn't have factory support?

SilviaEvo 12-08-2004 08:57 PM

at first i thought he just put a V12 in it but i read on to see that it was two RB26DETT's now that is a monster. look out 350Z you older brother has just dominated you

sikx5 12-08-2004 09:10 PM

Wow thats an awesome find jon. Thats a hell of a lot of re-designing. wish the pics were up. but far out, that thing sounds mad!!

SilviaEvo 12-08-2004 09:18 PM

^^ i dont know what is wrong the pictures for you but it is working fine for me

ikon2003 12-08-2004 09:31 PM

Yeah, that's crazy. I've heard of some skylines getting up towards that 1000bhp, but on the high boost straight sixes; never heard of this welded together business... very interesting. nice find. would love to see the pics too.

Sir_GT 12-09-2004 12:01 AM

The pics are still working. Just right click the "exceeded bandwith" links, then go to properties, then copy and paste the link to another browser.

THAT, my dear gentleman, was the right way to set up a Japanese car. All people who are thinking of modifying their cars should look towards that direction - the JGTC or Le Mans's GT cars.

Makes me wish I had the car and the money to turn a 350Z into a JGTC job.

gobs3z 12-09-2004 12:58 AM

^^^smart man, way to screw the system, haha. Thats a gorgeous with attention to detail and those headers are something else to look at, thats power. I like how the engine is strictly for racing, and none of that show shit with all those matching color wires and piping. I wish they had a DTM wide body kit for my GTi!

possessed_beaver 12-09-2004 01:09 AM

i think this guy needs help from a decent tuning company i mean wtf is the point of another RB 26 in the car to produce umm 1000bhp, you can EASLEY get that with one rb26! so this guy is a bit of a tool

and i feel sorry for whoever has to work on this cars ECU...

anyone know gearbox info, is it a holinger gearbox?

stracing 12-09-2004 01:20 AM

good point beav

i guess this guy thinks japanese tuning houses only know about civics

DeMoN 12-09-2004 04:10 AM

No more info provided? I want to know quarter mile times and 0 to 60s taht wide bodykit does look nice. Even if the bodykit wasnt for sale, he sure has the money to make it happen.

saadie 12-09-2004 04:49 AM

someone post via imageshack please

Imagine if he DID tune each RB26... asked JUN to do it or something... he would effectively have 2200 bhp!

exacley! and he could have a half reliable car aswell.
imagine the fuel the 2 rb26's go through, and wtf getting an rb26 upto 500bhp is no great acheivment.

he goes to all the trouble of making it light weight with alot of carbon ect. only to weigh it down with another engine, another exhaust system, 2 more turbo's.. uhhh *bangs head against desk*

sry but i think this guy needs a slap around the head, he has more money then sence.... (pardon the pun)

gis 12-09-2004 10:43 AM

the car is indeed an awesome copy of the JGTC but i agree with beav, more money than sense,he could have saved even more weight and got the same hp from 1 engne, lol

gobs3z 12-09-2004 11:00 AM

Is the RB26 DET an aluminum or iron block?

Actually I think the key word should be "realiable" :D I suppose a 1000 hp 2x RB26 is more reliable than a single engine tuned to its extreme ;)

you recall the skyline jeremy clarkson drove with over 1000bhp, on the R33 GTR and commented on how it went for 3 years without breaking down once. rb26's are strong engines!

but im curious why he seeks a "reliable car" when it seems to be a track weapon.. mmm if anyone can provide more information on this car it would be highley apreciated.

TT 12-09-2004 11:39 AM

Sure sure, and I never really heard anything bad about the 1000+ ones.. they seem to always run perfectly :) but still, better be safe than sorry :D

or maybe this is just stage one for him and he will soon tune the V12 to pass the 2000 or to aim at the 3000 hp ;)

This car is above a POS drag racer. With 1000 hp coming from a higher displacement engine, the turbo lag will be significantly less. Let's face it: a 1000 hp 2.8 L. engine will have mad turbo lag. On a race track turbo lag is the last thing you need. More displacement=less turbo lag=a nicer torque/power curve=more balls to push it through the corners.

rachaderua 12-09-2004 11:50 PM

GOD!!!

it´s my dream skyline!!

In the way i always wanted it to be!!

Silvia_Drift 12-10-2004 01:32 AM

If this engine is two rb26s (inline 6) welded together, wouldn't that make this motor an inline 12 quad turbo? Anyways, this car is crazy!

no, because both engines were welded together side by side and use a common crankshaft, making it a V12. it does look like it has 4 turbos though, which is nuts  .

as a racecar combining two rb26's makes plenty of sense, assuming enough chassis and suspension development is done to compensate for the extra weight. those super tuned skylines with just the inline six not only have huge lag, but their power curve is incredibly peaky, which is very bad for a racecar. the combination of two rb26s will give it not only a big power boost, but a huge torque boost and much more linear power delivery.

I'm a big fan of this one, probably partially because I really liked the TVR Speed 12, which essentially did the same thing with their speed six engine. of course it also has 4 turbos, which is.... awesome. must have taken a lot of money to develop this though, since the crankcase and crankshaft must be totally bespoke. it probably runs off two ecu's as well, one for each bank... again, like the Speed 12.

Well there's ways to fix this turbo lag problem on you guys keep pointing out. Those big turbo cars that have a single turbo set-up are screwed but if you have a twin turbo rb-26 you have a simple solution which i've seen on several 1000hp cars and it works amazingly. Instead of having 2 huge turbo's you put one huge turbo with a small turbo that spools up the larger turbo and you lose that HUGE turbo lag, and the hp and tq curves are a lot smoother. And i've never seen a 1000hp skyline race around a track, but that could be because of regulations and tuners use their high hp skylines for drag racing. Unique idea, i like it.

GT-R_R34 12-10-2004 09:20 PM

having a lot of money won't stop you from building something crazy like this, but why built it in the first place if it isn't street legal.

findleybeast 12-11-2004 02:31 AM

why not?

exacley, what i was about to say, also with an engine like that you can run an "antilag" system on the ECU.

that amoung other things is why the RB 26 is such a good engine, unlike a single turbo 2jgze that when producing big number will produce alot of lag, thats great for thoes 400m on a drag strip, but as a daily driver useless.

Because it is for the track! You can't enjoy a car like that to the full on a public road! Track car is the only way forward IMO.

I just have a lot of respect for the bloke who took the time effort and money to build this car. Who ever it was, is more than a some rich bloke, he is an enthusiast. Only some one who truely appreciates the car can devote so much time to getting the visual aspect so perfect.

As for the engine, damn, I would never have thought about it. Imagine the sound it makes! There is only one place that car belongs and that is on the track.

I take my hat off to him.

gis 12-11-2004 08:05 AM

After reading what you just wrote jon i think i agree, when i wrote my earlier replys about the engine i had it in my head that it was also a road car.......which really as you say woudlnt really be good for the road.but for track.....he may have built sumthin ultimate,id like to see a video of it running on track....see if all the money gone into it has actually paid off

mrpushrod 12-11-2004 11:14 PM

At the end of the day, it's one man's dream and he's put a lot of work into it. At 1000kg it's still very light, a lot lighter than a standard skyline with just 1 RB26. It is very impressive and I'd certainly like to know more. A video so I can see and hear it would be pretty good as well.......

LOL yes but that would make a ferrari look like a shopping cart ....

the gtr looks way better. ... best looking car ever.. other then my 180sx :) :P

Pok.

If you have the money why not buy your dream, im sure hes got a big face on his face everytime he sees it. It sure is a big effort but it looks like it was worth it

Evo 12-13-2004 11:24 AM

Any picture of the engine inside the car.. Coz I have seen my fare share of 1000hp skylines over here and belive me the engine bay is not large enough to take both of them with out extensive modification making the place a lot bigger... Would really like to see a pix....

And only 1 word explains this car... SICK..

Pimp Racer 12-13-2004 06:31 PM

jon_s 12-15-2004 03:01 PM

I wish I had more details/pics. AS of yet I don't. However, I will do some digging!
