F430 0-60 in 3.5 from Car and Driver magazine

I saw this on SC.net. I don't know if I should post this in the Scans Section or here, but decided to post here since it's Ferrari related.

Car and Driver tested the new F430 and got some amazing results.

0-60 in 3.5
1/4 mile in 11.7@123 mph

It's ok here, we would have accepted it both ways I suppose :D
And since the scans are pretty small, using the IMG tags isn't a problem ;)

abbor 12-02-2004 06:32 PM

Great article man.. Thanks.. It'll be great when they have it on TG in the spring..!

racer_f50 12-02-2004 07:05 PM

very impressive results, a shame they could do a skidpad test, but either way those accelerations are nice. thanks for the article :D

SFDMALEX 12-02-2004 07:36 PM

Can you just imagine all the Vette and 911 fanboys arguing for the next 5 years...

hmm I wonder what the Vette boys will say.....oh I know.....the Vette costs half the price :D

styla21 12-02-2004 07:56 PM

Gosh sounds like perfection. Thanks for the scan Mayer, it raises the question for Ferrari 'where to now?' Is there any rumours on a Challenge 430?

robruf 12-02-2004 08:06 PM

This is the car to have, I love it, cannot wait to see what the new Porsche Turbo is going to have to be to beat this car

Pimp Racer 12-02-2004 08:07 PM

Great article I think I have that magazine.

gobs3z 12-02-2004 08:13 PM

The accelleration is crazy compared to what ferrari and the magazine were suspecting it to do. They though 4.0 sec flat and low 12's at best in the 1/4 mile, but 3.5 and 11.7 is amazing for the power this car has. 360 CS didn't even has those times. Maybe the weather was just perfect, i dunno.

sameerrao 12-02-2004 08:59 PM

Dayum! :D Even if you deduct a few tenths to compensate for the downward slope of the track that is really fast times recorded for the F430.

Pretty big step up from the 360 CS. I thought with the extra weight it would not corner as well as the CS...

sikx5 12-02-2004 09:22 PM

Thanks, that was a interesting read. This thing is pretty quick, but there comment on how this will waste a F40 and F50 put me off this article.

jorge 12-02-2004 09:48 PM

OMG i can´t believe those times
Thanks for the scans

raphaelws 12-02-2004 09:49 PM

that's amazing!!

JiggaStyles09 12-02-2004 09:58 PM

nice article, thanks for the scan, cant wait for the comparo tests between this the ford GT. now that this is the top dog in its class among the european competitors im really interested in how the american competitors stack up against it.

findleybeast 12-02-2004 10:45 PM

wow respect for the F430 just went wayyy up! the test times are nuts! ferrari really upped the bar with this one

nthfinity 12-02-2004 11:12 PM

well, concidering this is meant to compete against the gallardo, and Ford GT, im not really suprised ferrari put so much more 'oomph' into it. but as far as wasting a F40, or F50... cirtainly not remotely near those two around a track... those cars may hit 200, but they are ever so much more corner-carvers then the 430 would ever be even in CS form.

styla21 12-02-2004 11:57 PM

I'm not disagreeing with you, but why would they be so much better at 'carving corners' than a 10 year newer 430? :? I mean with technological advancement, the electronics and the rest, surely the difference could not be that great? :)

ikon2003 12-03-2004 02:39 AM

Great car, and awesome read. The flat crankshaft was a pretty cool fact...even more evidence that the ferrari V8 acts more like just two I4's bolted together. (Ferrari also uses two separate ECUs for their V8's, basically timing each bank on a different card.) The acceleration times seem a little spurious... fast definitely, but overrated (???)... a downhill straightaway, and maybe a tail-wind at fiorano exaggerated the results a bit i think. whatev... great car.

HoboPie 12-03-2004 03:19 AM

The downhill would be a factor, but R&T not exactly known for their stellar numbers were able to best pretty much all of the Fiorano results except for the 3.15 where as R&T ONLY got 3.28

I'm just saying that the F430 could be more than just close to these times. It may very well be able to do them.

Scary thing is that puts it back in contention with the final ultimo version of the Ford GT. I know different place, different day means a lot, but some of those early acceleration times are better than some Enzo tests. Even the 1/4 mile is only .3 seconds off the Enzo's worse test.

This car is seriously fast. It also makes me think the next hyper car is going to be ridiculous. The hp and weight wont be insane, but if it employs some of the new stuff of the F430 it will be scary as hell.

Gilles27 12-03-2004 06:07 AM

Crazy fast!!! And the 7,9 to the tone itsn´t bad.
Anyone still calling it "baby-Ferrari" ?

bmwmpower 12-03-2004 11:58 AM

great scan, times are for me surprise,

adamwich 12-03-2004 12:07 PM

Thanks! Beautiful car

You wont have to wait that long abbor, Vicky will be testing the F430 on monday night! only a few days until one of our favorite shows finally airs a F430 review. I cant wait! ive been thinking about it everyday since I saw this weeks top gear, and its preview at the end of the show! This car is sick, I cant wait to see it in the carbon and aluminum at the detroit show this yr, or maybe the TO show if i cant get down to the motor city this time around! but i know the yorkville millionaires wont disappoint this spring/summer there will be plenty of 430s to see IMO! :D :D :D

yg60m 12-03-2004 02:28 PM

Impressive numbers !! I am waiting for European tests now

....lets hope so, dunno why ferrari would want to build a f430 cs, how fast do they want to make this car, cs=enzo

nejcdolinsek 12-03-2004 05:24 PM

Those are incredible numbers... all I hope is that some magazine does an independent test to confirm these crazy numbers

Gallardo... what???

cho_888 12-03-2004 05:35 PM

wow that is bloody fast. i still dont like the front of this car but oh well. it out does the ford GT in braking by a long shot.

HoboPie 12-03-2004 06:26 PM

Ferrari doesn't need to build the 600 or whatever. The F430 is at least as fast as the Murcielago.

And yeah, the F430 CS would be pretty damn close to the Enzo except past 120mph or something. In just about every other category it would essentially be a match.

5vz-fe 12-03-2004 06:45 PM

Does that mean this is the next best thing to Enzo? And that is just the street version too, wonder what it would be like in Challenge form. Say taking away 500lb and this will fly baby.

gobs3z 12-03-2004 06:56 PM

Lets hope the next CS will be street legal in the U.S.

sentra_dude 12-03-2004 08:58 PM

Damn, those are some seriously impressive numbers! Good job Ferrari...I guess Porsche and Chevy will have to work that much harder on the 997 Turbo and C6 Z06.

I'd definitely like to see these numbers verified at another location by another magazine, but I'm sure there can't be more than a few tenths difference, which still makes it an incredibly quick car. :D 8)

SPEEDCORE 12-04-2004 02:00 AM

Its time for Lambo to release a Gallardo SV!!

Cool times and its STOCK!!! hahahaha

mayer 12-09-2004 12:45 PM

Road and Track's test results are very similar.

Isn't bad? ...i would rather say it's more than good :) as it is almost as fast as an SLR.

Remember they have done "3.3" with 500ps version Ford GT, and 4.0 dead with 997 Carrera S -- no other testers can do quicker than 3.7 in GT and 4.5 in 997 S.

But keep this in mind: Road&Track did exactly the same figure as C&D on F430, and F430 can beat F40 in acceleration.

ferrarif1fan89 12-20-2004 09:11 PM

I think Road & Track magazine recorded the same acceleration times. WOW

mv 12-27-2004 08:46 AM

The thing that is the most impressive for me is that it can hit 100mph in just 8 seconds...That's faster by a second in comparison with the gallardo

Anonymous 01-08-2005 02:00 AM

Yeah, 3.5 secs is pretty god damn fast. I don't know if the Ford GT will be able to content with this. I think the Ford GT was created to fight the 360, I think initial test has shown that the F430 definitely out class it. I would definitely like to see a head to head comparsion.

tekwar 01-08-2005 02:26 AM

cant wait to see this car on the road....its going to put up a stiff competition for the ford gt and the "baby" lambo....

MATTLAMBO85 01-09-2005 01:12 AM

It only does 3.5 second zero to 60 with launch control. You can only get launch control in europe. For some reasion L.C isn't available in america for reasions regarding the warranty. W/o launch control it does 3.9 second zero to 60mph.

SFDMALEX 01-09-2005 01:05 PM

CAn you say Ferrari POWEROWNED the competition? MUAHAHAHAHAHA Were are the Porsche wankers now

ikon2003 01-10-2005 11:32 AM

^Wait for some independent Ring times for the F430.... that would be the true challenge to the Porsches.

mindgam3 01-10-2005 02:01 PM

I'm not gonna trust R&T's or C&D's times at all :P It's a megaquick car, far more so than any of its competition, but i'm gonna wait for some "proper" magazines to fully test it ;)

Have to agree with you on that. 3.5 seconds seems to fast, but its still good for some Vette bashing threads........these might come in handy.

FerrariFerrari 01-13-2005 09:14 PM

I think that those times might just make up for the bad looks. But I wonder why
the couldn't just find a flatter strip of road, surely it wouldn't be to much of an
inconvenience for Ferrari to do in the name of fiar and unbiased compatition.
I read a review of the Enzo where they were required to do the exceleration testing on
the same downhill stretch of track. :( Is Ferrari unsure about there product. J/K

SilviaEvo 01-13-2005 09:18 PM

why the fuck isnt LC in america?!!? is it possible to buy one from Europe and get it legalized here?

Lawyers...they are afraid of getting sued by someone who crashes their car while 'racing' with launch control...its stupid really. I'm sure you could get it legalized, as far as I know its not illegal, the only reason European models have it and American ones don't are the lawyers, I could be wrong though.

And why do you say that? Fiorano was built when Mr. Ferrari was still alive. He didnt give a shit about his road car specs. All he cared about was his F1..........

Anyway that slope thing doesnt make any difference to me. Im sure that 80% are on some sord of a slope. You just dont expect road testers to ask the people who build the parking lot or the air fields what the slope the stuff is on. Ferrari simply admits it and warns everybody about it.

I honestly don't know, but i would figure there's more to it than lawyers. us has really weird laws and regulations (a fav: mandatory posting in sun screens that the back seat is the safest place for a child... even if the car itself is a two seater.)

that does suk there's no lc - do the enzo's have it legalized for those in the US?
