Car of the year 2005

there are only 7 cars
http://www.autocar.co.uk/news_article.asp?na_id=212035

toyota prius is favourite for me

jakaracman 11-04-2004 10:22 AM

The winner is the one that bribes most of the journalists (althjough not every journo can be bribed, Autosport is an example). I know some of them very well and know how the COTY system works ...

Vansquish 11-04-2004 10:28 AM

Go Focus!!!! It'll probably be the Pug though.

sndr 11-04-2004 10:42 AM

My favorite is the Peugeot 407 and i hope it wins

dodgemar 11-04-2004 11:01 AM

A car like the BMW should win, unfortanately it´s not affordable for everyone and prize is considered in the equation to pick the car of the year. Beyond that the BMW is a great car. I´m waiting for the "M" version.

DUNKiNUTS 11-04-2004 11:03 AM

Focus

oldsnail 11-04-2004 04:58 PM

PRIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

adamk24 11-05-2004 12:53 AM

The 1 series is seriously bad ass for the price, but I got my money on the Pug. For anyone who wasnt aware, the focus is a good handling but cramped, poorly designed, unreliable, ugly piece of junk. Just thought Id let you know :D

PATo355 11-05-2004 01:09 AM

The c4 , is very clever and well designed

jamberl 11-05-2004 05:33 AM

Not exactly the most exotic group of cars..

The BMW, I guess.

is64fun 11-05-2004 08:27 AM

i think astra focus 1 series all of them has equal chance. maybe 407 might be slightly head of them

jon_s 11-05-2004 10:48 AM

Focus for me.

dropot2 11-05-2004 11:59 AM

1 series is my option...

mrpushrod 11-05-2004 04:41 PM

I reckon it'll be the Focus or the C4 judging by what I've read of the two.

Ford Capri 2.8i 11-05-2004 06:00 PM

Although there are many cars which engineers have made great work in their models such as the Astra, the 407, the focus and the BMW...and although the BMWs made the greatest work for me...i think that the focus will win the award because Fords work is almost as great as the BMWs, and the BMW is handicapped by the price

numerouno 11-07-2004 01:59 AM

Ford's got #1 chance. BTW wht not make a poll to see who's gonna be JW COTY?

adamk24 11-07-2004 03:39 AM

What is it about the focus that is so great.... in america at least the focus is a piece of junk. :?

Hey man, don't knock the Focus, my dad was in charge of bringing that car to America. It's not a piece of junk. The Chevy Cavalier, Saturn Ion, etc...etc... with which it competes are shit. The Focus is better made, performs better and has better handling and load-lugging capacities than its competitors. Besides which, the new focus (which we don't have in America), based on the new C1 platform, is supposedly light years better even than the car it replaces.

gottacatchup 11-07-2004 02:42 PM

now how come outa the 7 best cars to compete in europe only 1 is sold in America, seems we're getting the really short end of the stick here

Vansquish 11-07-2004 04:07 PM

I could be wrong, but I seem to recall reading something about the 1-series making the leap across the pond sometime later this year or early next year...don't know where I saw that though...might just be spouting BS hehe.

gucom 11-07-2004 04:14 PM

The prius is the hybrid car right? then that gets my vote (hell yeah im a tree hugger :P RC was right all the time lol  )
nah its just i think that hybrid needs to become much more common, especially for daily-use cars (so not sports cars) there's no real need to keep on going on only petrol of diesel

The 1 is coming over here later but the prius is the only one currently sold here, and as Americans we dont get the desiel engines that europe does so it wont be completely the same

chest3r 11-07-2004 08:33 PM

The Astra is my favourite. I like the BMW too but I think it shouldn't win.

I think the winner will be the C4, but I don't like the car. The Prius has some good chances too.

The Focus shouldn't win. It isn't soo good has the old one :?

bmwmpower 11-15-2004 02:57 PM

Prius wins, yes :D

1.prius
2.C4
3.Focus
4.Astra
5.Modus
6.407
7.1 series

Go Prius Go

Wutputt 11-16-2004 07:23 AM

Not bad, this way the Prius gets a bit more attention. It's a good effort to reduce emissions and it isn't a bad car. But I wouldn't buy one ;)

Here is the list with the given points:

1. Toyota Prius (406 points)
2. Citroën C4 (267 points)
3. Ford Focus (228 points)
4. Opel Astra (180 points)
5. Renault Modus (151 points)
6. Peugeot 407 (135 points)
7. BMW 1 Series (83 points)

FPVPSI 11-16-2004 07:36 AM
