McLaren in Cambridge,MA

Today at noon, just leaving MicroCenter, a guy arrives in his McLaren F1 and stops right in front of the main door like he owns the place (he probably does or could own it!) . He didn't even care to lock it. I ran for my camera and took the pictures below. High-res can be seen by clicking on the low-res. IMHO, ordering the best supercar ever in black with a maroon dash and beige leather seats is a bit of a waste, but above 300km/h who cares...

Hi-Res are available on the links below the pictures.

PureEuroM3 09-20-2004 08:19 PM

i wouldve probably tooks pics while jumping and hugged the car...

T-Bird 09-20-2004 08:31 PM

that's the kind of car that if you see you hit the brakes if driving by and pull a u-turn in the middle of the road. I have never seen one on the streets like that before.

PureEuroM3 09-20-2004 08:32 PM

I havnt seen a Mclaren ever...yet alone on the street...

budagboy2 09-20-2004 08:38 PM

Thats Frank Selldorff's car, hes got 3(2 F1s, and an LM). Been in that car, one hell of a ride
Edit:Forgot to thank you for the pictures :)

tigerx 09-20-2004 08:38 PM

i'm guessing that not an LM?

budagboy2 09-20-2004 08:40 PM

Yeah that car is just a regular f1

tigerx 09-20-2004 08:42 PM

just a regular F1 how often do you say that.

budagboy2 09-20-2004 08:46 PM

haha i guess that does sound like an understatement

abruno_sousa 09-20-2004 08:52 PM

It seems Frank runs a Turner motorsports BMW 325i in the SCCA speed car touring series. Must be slower than the LM he drove in 1997. I'm still wondering why would one drive an F1 to a MicroCenter. Expensive way to buy floppy disks...

abruno_sousa 09-20-2004 09:03 PM

Just found this story on the car and the owner.

http://www.bmwcca.org/Roundel/2002/11/Article_1.shtml

Nice reading. It seems there are only 10 F1s in the US, which means I'm a very lucky bastard to see one in the flesh, though not as much as Frank Selldorff himself!

nurbrun 09-20-2004 09:07 PM

Holy shitt........nice sighting man......i think u are the first to see a Mclaren on the road....congrats....please some one correct me if iam wrong :D

You are wrong. Lots of peple have seen McLarens on the road. :|

From JW TT has seen at least one before.

EDIT: If you took off the flashy plate, the McLaren would blend in traffic and go around relatively unnoticed (except for when the loud pedal is firmly pressed). I love it! 8)

Frank doesn't own or race the car that runs in the SCCA anymore. Will Turner is the owner of Turner motorsport and he runs the car in the SCCA. I think that Frank just gives them publicity by puttin their Turner sticker's on his car, he may sponsor them. Correct me if im wrong

abruno_sousa 09-20-2004 09:19 PM

Hmm, I think he really drives the BMW, as he drove the LM. Look at driver #94 in:
http://www.speedvisionwc.com/2003/ev.../entry-tc.html

In between jobs, he's a CEO of a dotcom company... Gotta get me a job like that...

budagboy2 09-20-2004 09:35 PM

Hmm, i remember him telling us that hes not really affiliated with them anymore, well maybe his is

skituner 09-20-2004 09:49 PM

very nice post
haha look at the guy on cruches in the backround of one pic

abruno_sousa 09-20-2004 09:57 PM

So you know Frank personally? That's pretty cool! I don't suppose you ever had the pleasure of taking a ride on one of his Macs, have you? Tell us more!

budagboy2 09-20-2004 10:11 PM

^^^Met him once when we were considering a Mclaren, he toook us out in the lm and f1. Fucking amazing

Vansquish 09-20-2004 10:16 PM

Nice spotting!!! Pretty rare to see one of them on the road...I've only seen them at shows myself.

dutchmasterflex 09-20-2004 10:25 PM

Well first he picked us up from the airport with the car just sitting there with the doors open, i was going nut. It was the first time i had seen the car in person. His f1 was chassi number 007, pretty cool. After looking at the car for about 20mins we got in and started it, well kinda, needed a jump start  . But we found a guy that was more than happy to do it. After we got that out of the way Frank showed us how its hard to drive the car in first gear b/c when you touch the throttle the wheels start spinning like madd. After that my dad jumped in the drivers seat and just drove around on the highway, getting up to about 160 in a blink of an eye. After about an hour and a half in the f1 we went back to switch cars, the lm :D . The lm is the most outrageous car that i've been in. Exhaust is like no other, and its aswome to just hear the wine of the transmission, the car came with headphones so you wouldn't damage your ears. We made a quick pitstop to get some lunch and immediately there was a croud around the car. After lunch we went back to put the car away, Frank said that the clutch was starting to slip so he wanted to change back to the f1. After that we went back to the airport and were on our way. Overall it was a amazing day, and Frank it probably one of the most down to earth people around

CSedl87 09-21-2004 12:35 AM

It's amazing people like him, with shitloads of money, they're usually extremely nice people and down to earth. I was at a show at a Ferrari dealership to show off the Rolex racing series when they were here in Az. They had the Rolex 360 Modena, and one of the guys who showed up had an orange McLaren F1. The guy was pretty nice and let us look in it and such, plus I gave that ass (of the F1, sickos) a little tap, if you know what I mean, when he wasn't looking. The best part was when he did a burn out into traffic, to a red light, slamming on his brakes, almost hitting the person infront of him  The guy who owns it actually lives down the street from me, but haven't seen it since.

mclaren_Gt 09-21-2004 02:23 AM

oooooooooooooooo really nice images :D :D

thanks a lot , im very happy for this :D :D

if you have more images of mclaren pls send me a PM

TT 09-21-2004 03:08 AM

A hell of a rare sighting here :D

FPVPSI 09-21-2004 03:34 AM

Great pictures...one hell of a sighting......Its good to see that people who own these type of cars actually get out there and drive themm...Good on ya Franky...

Regie 09-21-2004 06:23 AM

Thank you for the pics, abruno_sousa. As others have pointed out, an incredibly rare sighting.

Ian_yamaue 09-21-2004 08:28 AM

Again.. i remember this from Automotive Forums... a once in a lifetime experience for us, maybe again for you Mike (mind you, a Vanq, M3, F50 and Enzo isn't too bad either) 8)

callen 09-21-2004 02:38 PM

1 of ten in the USA, only 2500 miles allowed per yr. id say this is the rarest sighting of ne car on JW. congrats, i hope i will only be so lucky to see an F1 before i die(even if its on an auto show circuit!)

I become more and more jelous of you every day! ur dad should have bought an F1, but i guess an F50 a vanquish and soon to add an Enzo, isnt so bad either  hehe

nthfinity 09-21-2004 03:09 PM

blends in with the 'crowd' ? how isnt the F1 flashy? the only way it blends in with the crowd is because its lower then any of the other cars out there
not so bad sighting
