Once we meet people from all over the world, in interested in noticing which hot hatch model´ is mostly sold (or which is the most desirable hot hatch) in each members country nowadays, and why

In my case in the Basque Country, IMO the most selling hot hatch here is the Seat Leon FR TDI 150 bhp and the Citroen Saxo VTS 16v as the second one.....firstly the Seat is sold a lot because its a diesel car with superb performances(the sales of cars are here like 70% for diesels and 30% for petrol engined cars since the petrol costs 20% more at least than the diesel), sporting settings of suspensions, brakes, sporting steering wheel, sporting seats...... and its the cheapest 150 bhp diesel car selling here.....in addition, the saxo is sold in large numbers here because the car costs around 12000€ and there is no car on sale which performs as much as the saxo costing a similar amount of money

I got amazed that the civic hasnt been mentioned as a hot hatch, once i see one of the few cars that can approximate to the hot hatch concept in non European countries

Well for Belgium I wouldn't know, cause they only publish data per segment per car. So I only know for instance how many Renault Clio's are sold, but I have no idea how many of them are Clio RS's.

Probably a diesel powered hot hatch will be sold most. For the petrol powered cars it used to be the Saxo VTS, but it's replace by the C2 now, so I wouldn't have an idea which one currently tops the selling charts.

Dont worry too much Wutputt because obviously the Saxo VTS will be replaced here by the C2 VTS straight away...ive considered the saxo as the most selling petrol engine car just currently, nowadays

For the US it would have to be either the Civic Si (we don't get the Type R here), or the Ford SVT Focus...I guess the Mini Cooper/Cooper S/Cooper S Works count too actually.

i'm not sure what the best selling in UK is. I know the best selling hatch is the focus, but not sure about hot hatch. I see clio 182's, civic type r's, cooper s's, focus RS/ST, saxo VTS's, Golf GTI's/R32's and most others every day, its hard to tell. I would take a wild guess at the golf GTI, although i wouldnt consider it a hot enough hatch. Maybe the cooper s?

I would say that the US it has to be the Golf GTI hands down if we are talking hot hatch, not too many Civic Si's but there are alot of SVT Foci around aswell.

Obviously we(among members) are guessing here about the best selling hot hatches for ourselves.......perhaps the most suitable question is...whats the hot hatch that you see most around or something like that......... at the end of the day is basically the same question as i proposed at the beginning of this topic....

i would say currently echo hatch (yaris/vitz) in canada
and there are certainly alot of civic hatches around ef-eg-ek-ep

I think you missed the point there, buddy. That's a hatch. He was asking about HOT hatches. :roll:

In the US its got to be the Golf GTI, yeah you see some SVT focus's but not nearly as many as golfs. If you count Mazda 3s as hot hatches then they have their fair share of the market aswell.

A standard ZX3 is NOT a Hot Hatch that's what the SVT version is for that's what is being discussed.

In Texas it would be the Golf GTi but having said that I see far more Camaros and Firebirds on a daily basis which are technically hatchbacks although they are styled like coupes.

what about the 1.8 Barina? Not popular? I had a 1.8 Corsa from Vauxhall (same car) as a 48 hour test drive over a weekend a couple of years ago and thought it was a great car for the money. Lots cheaper than a Corolla too.

What about Peugeot 106 1.6 16v's? do you not get those in Aus?

yeh man the vauvhall's are popular.. but corolla's always outsell them for some reason, australians love toyota's!

Nope, unfortunately the Pug 106 isn't sold here in Aus, pity about that. :(

The Barina SRi is probably the most popular of the hot hatches (sales numbers-wise) , the Mini Cooper is also sold in healthy numbers, but unless it has the Works kit (most aren't), I don't classify it as a hot hatch - just a poser's hatch with an asthmatic engine ;). It is a nimble car though and the chassis is great, on 16" rims, the 17" wheels are a bit too pogo-y for our crappy , tram lined city roads.

The (Holden/Opel) Astra Turbo is also very popular in terms of numbers on the road, pity it looks like a fridge with a wing ;) The local motoring press have been enamoured with this car (and to a lesser extent, the Barina) and give it rave reviews. The Astra turbo has a torquey engine, but I didn't feel it was all that chuckable/fun to drive nor is it a light car (almost 1300kg) which is what a hot hatch should be all about.

The Clio 172 (Cliosport here in Aus) is not very popular in terms of sales , but the owners love the car (points at myself).

We don't get the current Civic Type-R either (unfortunately). The Alfa 147 doesn't have that many sales (nor does the Golf R32).

Driven it and it is a fiery engine, BUT one has to rev the absolute tits out of it to go anywhere quickly.

Yeah I agree with you about that Toyota engine - I drove the Celica GT-S with that motor and the 6 speed. It is great but you have to wring the nads off it.

there are ZX3 hatches though, the SVT isnt the only hatched focus.

TransAM2001: Nope we only get the convertible version, which is better looking than the hatch (only when the top is down, I can't stand the lines when the cloth roof is raised), it doesn't have the turbo, just a NA engine that is less powerfull and the car is heavier. Defintely for posers...

I'd call it a tepid hatch, not hot ;)

I know that the ZX3 is the 3 door hatch and ZX5 is the 5 door but they aren't hot hatches they are econo hatches the SVT is the Hot hatch version get it.

that's the hottest (and the only) one we can muster. ;)

i wouldnt exactly call those golfs hot hatches either. 8)

the GTI is the hot hatch version though you can't really put the R32 in the hot hatch category it's a step above.

Well here in Hellas, you see many many Punto Gt'S, Civic Vtec, Pug 106 Rallyes, and Saxo 120 VtS... And when i say many, i mean MANY...

in my country hot hatches are very rare....the onyl one I can say is the Mini cooper S.....heck..even 3 door civics are not that popular...most prerfer the 4 door ones

sergei_dekker85: I agree. Having been here for the last 3 weeks, I haven't seen anything resembling a hot hatch. Seen a couple of Civic hatches, but don't know if they were just cosmetically souped or had something under the hood. Although there are some very tasty exoticars here. Already seen numerous Ferrari 360s (at least 10 different ones), a Bentley Conti GT, about 5 M3s and a few SL55s. Porsche's 911 is also popular here and I fink I saw a GT2, but am unsure as I only caught a glance as I was passing by.

The little stretch near Queenstown MRT is like car boulevard, all the showrooms seem to be there and I've been meaning to get down there for a wander & a gander. Car ownership on this little island is ridiculously expensive it seems.

yup....thats the "silcon valley" of cars...in my army camp the medical officer owns a gallardo and a 360...not sure where he got the $$$ frm...but there are ONLY 2 zondas back here...one is yellow while the other is silver...FYI guys a zonda back in my country costs $2 million sing dollars
