...well, the editor isn´t very satisfied with handling of the Viper, steering is awful - it has a dangerous tendency to surprisedly change from under - to oversteering, with little feel to control it, so a pro behind the wheel is absolutely necessary to be really fast...
well, on the tech-side, everything is kinda old and rude - but also charming is some way...

the SL on the other side is - yes u guessed it right - WAY to heavy to be a real performer on the track, but i think we agree that it´s not supposed to be one...
excellent V12 engine and nearly perfect ESP setup are good to beat the 500kg lighter Viper at HHR race track...

well...both aren´t my type of car but that´s just my opinion...

Ghostbat 09-03-2004 06:46 AM

Must say that it's amazing how the SL65 can beat the viper at a track. Mercedes is definetely doing somethign right. Hopfully someday Mercedes learns how to make lighter cars and then...

the Merc can make up for the loss of two corners by one straight line

Viper=Male with overgrown muscles
Sl65=Female secretary in tight mini skirt

The answer is clear on which one get the boss's attention :P

AlienDB7 09-03-2004 09:46 AM

SL65 cost two times more than the Viper. for the rest of the money you can modify your viper to make it faster than the sl65

schnell318 09-03-2004 11:45 AM

Neither of them is my type of car, but I would get the Merc over the Viper if I had to.

astonmartinandy 09-03-2004 11:50 AM

I would take the Merc anyday over the viper. I think this should be turned into a poll - strange choice of cars, but would you take the AMG or the Viper?

sentra_dude 09-03-2004 12:22 PM

Screw the Merc, it is way too heavy and has no manual option, Viper for me! :D

in what way?

AlienDB7 09-03-2004 06:31 PM

I think there was something wrong with the Viper in this test, a couple of month ago the same magazine tested the Viper on Hockenheim(using the same driver), they clocked the car, the laptime showed 1.14.9 min. I mean the difference 1.16.3 min now and 1.14.9 min in a earlier test is very strange.

A M3 with 343 hp has the same laptime as the Viper in this test.
Come on a 343 hp car same time as the Viper, nah this Viper wasnt healthy.

jamberl 09-03-2004 08:37 PM

Why dont these german mags print out an english version? Im sure there are more than enough enthusiasts who would want to read it.

Cypher 09-03-2004 09:42 PM

The only thing i could understand was the specs... nice pics anyway

crazidude 09-04-2004 04:11 AM

Funny... the first thing i read on the first scan is "Die Dodge Viper".

But yeah I would personally prefer the Merc over the Viper. The Viper is a hell of a car, but I don't like it very much for some reason.

^that´s the reason for the bad lap time... :|

...hmmm, i´m not aware of another SA test at HHR with the Viper - maybe i´ve missed something...can u plz name ( post ) some more details...thx... :)

BADMIHAI 09-04-2004 10:20 PM

MB for me, thank you. It might cost twice more than the Viper, but it is ten times the car (not only a mere twice  ). It does everything. If it only came with a manual option......
