Re: FORD GT REPLACEMENT CAR
Here is a tip for the future please post the pics not the forum which only provides the links not direct image because takes to much time. so this is the replacement for the Ford GT? not it's own Shelby Cobra?

Well, IMO it looks better than the Ford GT, but can it perform as well as the Ford GT?
Are there any specs on this car? |
it look gorgeous, look like another "history" car, this one is base on the shelby daytona coupe, wow i can't wait.
|
i dont think it will be the replacement, just a new car
|
true lol, anyone here from the press? if you do would you plz get the High res of this car ? they're available here:
http://www.autodeadline.com/Photos?s...=Shelby&page=1 i don't work for the press so it really suck for me. :( |

yeah that why i ask for someone that work for the press, only they can sign up.
|
I'm sure that won't replace the GT it will definitely be it's own car like the Cobra if it ever sees production.
|
either way, i LOVE IT.
|
i didn't post the pics cause it took me fover to copy and paste it to the other site. i just posted it here so that you guys could have a link to it before i put up the the pics. it would of taken me like 5 minutes to put up the tags on the url and that could be enough time for someone to look at the forum and leave, and have to wait till tomarrow to see the pics.
also, i am 99% sure that this is the replacement for the ford gt. they will have a short run, so when the last one comes off the line, its price will appreciate like crazy |
It looks pretty cool. Now if they lost those stupid head lights, they might have something.

why would Ford replace their GT racer with a Shelby car technically they aren't the same company and if this is a homage to the Daytona it would be a totally different car than the GT/GT40 is/was they were 2 different cars that were available at about the same period in Automotive history. Anyways you don't replace something like the Ford GT they just end it's run and leave it at that. They may introduce a new car but they won't replace the GT with anything. This may be a new car from Shelby but it won't be a replacement. Especially since as soon as the projected GT run is complete SVT will refocus their efforts on the SVT Cobra and Lightning and the SVT Focus is still kind of in the air(who knows). So if the car was to be built they would have to find another place to produce it unless Shelby built them at his factory in Las Vegas by hand since they don't have assembly lines there, so if they produce this car the question is where would they build it? that's the thing with the new Shelby Cobra aswell where would they build it, there isn't really anywhere to build another car like the GT. They really can't afford to close down the SVT factory for another limited edition high performance car because the Cobra and Lightning guys will start getting fed up, I'm sure the wait already is going to be enough of a strain on sales since you will have to wait another year after the Mustang comes out and even longer for the Lightning to see another SVT car.
|
T-Bird theirs a lil blue oval on the car that says Ford so I geuss this is a Co-op vehicle between the two companies.
No car can replace the Ford GT its built like a woman this new one is built like a Mustang I wondered what a new age Mustang would look like? Ford GT has history and Grace this one isn't shit yet. |
that's not a new age mustang it's a new age Daytona Coupe a VERY different car.
Yes it may say FORD on the hood but I would still consider anything built by Shelby a Shelby not a Ford Shelby you don't say a Shelby Ford Mustang GT500 do you? You don't say Shelby AC Ford Cobra 427 aswell do you? If it is a Shelby it's a Shelby if it's a Saleen it's a Saleen if it's a Roush it's a Roush regardless if it has a Ford symbol on it or not, eventhough all of them have VIN numbers from Ford. If this is a Daytona remake than it also has History and Grace they are one of the rarest cars made and very few still exist today, there are more GT40's left than Daytona Coupes, this car could have alot of history if it is a Daytona remake smae with the new Cobra concept car. |

Also Ford GT Guy wasnt saying this is replaicng the mustang, he was saying the Ford GT of today is like the Mustang Launch of the 60s. Thats what i took from it. |
Thank you TT  Which concept will go into production ??? If it really happen a day ...
|
Wow, the first really beautiful ford....ahem sorry, Shelby. Just as gorgeous as the original cobra. Silvia, this is not a GT replacement... where you got that idea? Specially the very same week of a GT first delivery! Is it the new daytona or are they gonna stick with the previous concept?

I imagine this is yet another car based on the aluminum structure of the Ford GT....if you recall there was a Cobra concept car with a V10 at the NAIAS in February that took the place by storm. It had many of the same chassis components as the GT, and this could well be a "coupe" version of the Cobra much like the original Daytona car was a rebodied, more aerodynamic version of the AC Cobra racer.
|
WOW! I like it !
Nice lookin` car Very "finished" design Thanx for everyone who posted pix Good news aswell BTW impressive spec list Wish to watch some videos of action ;) |
Thank you TT and Number 77. It seems to be the complement to the recent Cobra concept, just as the Daytona Coupe complemented the original cobra
they will NEVER make it in to production. like the Nomad concept GM made. focus group my ass http://www.tamsoldracecarsite.net/RESCobraCoupeTree.jpg by the way, Daytona Coupes are extremely rare. like 6 or so. all others are replicas, but only one is a true remake, the Superperformance Daytona, which was created by the guy who designed it in 1964. this is just a for the hell of it car as I said they have nowhere to even build the damn thing if they decided to. Unless Shelby himself want's to build these we won't see them anytime soon.
|
FUCK YEA! Its about time they started another muscle car war! BRING ON THE HORSEPOWER!!!
|
These are more then just muscle car, i hope this one can turn as well as the GT :D. i am on my knee begging Carroll and Bill to sign the paper or do wutever they do, but plz make this car!!! PLZ!!!
|
Hey, if it can turn, all the power to ya! Im more interested in the 600bhp figgures   I better get a damn good job after university, because theres some interesting toys hitting the market; GTO, New Mustang, 6.1L Hemis  , Ford GT, The Shelby Cobra Concept, this, C6 Z06, Camaro Replacement, the list goes on... but damn will it be hard to choose just one!
|
its really quite striking!
this is the first ive seen of the car, i was really looking forward to seeing the cobra concept in production form tho... :-( whatever ford decides, the GT's replacement should be in around 2007, or 2008 as its to use a lot of the supercar-parts-bin :-D the shelby concept was pushing 'at least 605hp' in v10 n/a form |
I know that the Cobra Concept is starting production in Michigan after the Ford GT is stopped being made in 2007. I have no idea about this one.
This car is definitley not the coupe version for the Cobra Concept because the cobra is very light this is 3900lbs! But ford and shelby had their ways for getting something heavy to move fast. |
Quote:
internal work suggests a remodel, as the car was too 'minimalist' from what i hear, svt has yet to decide on the wheather roadster will be made. my guess has always been yes. |
Chmon now, Ford Doesnt care what SVT thinks What shelby says now goes. If shelby says your gonna stop production of the Mustang cobra to make my cobra, they will do it. Because the shelby name is so well known it would bring in so much showroom attraction.
|
Have you ever met anyone that doesnt know what a shelby is?
|
have you ever meant anyone that doesn't know what a F-150 is?
|
you have to realize that Ford will not suspend SVT production any further so if they decided to actually build the Cobra themselves they have to figure out where to build it.
SVT brings in a good amount of customers to Ford and some potential buyers realize they can't afford one so they buy a GT. SVT is a definite go as soon as the GT is done not even Carrol can tell them to stop production on 2+ vehicle lines to build another limited run hand built car that costs the price of 4 Mustang Cobra's. Don't get me wrong I would love to see the new Cobra become a reality but the likelyhood is low and there is no official word yet hell you can buy an original Cobra still so why not buy one of those in Carbon Fiber with the Supercharged Aluminum 427 and get it over with. |
It's an american DB9! Nothing to do with the original car, just a nice car copying Aston Martin's styling.
And it has the Ford GT doors! But it is a nice car indeed! |
well you could say the DB9 copies the Daytona
|
oh my, it seems quite wrong here suddenly...
ok, first fact shelby sued ford in the 70's for cobra name moniker shelby is once again working with Ford the new mustang cobra is not being held up because of shelby, but rather, it IS BEING devoloped right now, under a new director of the cobra (John Coletti is director over all SVT, is often referred to as 'god' for his one-sided decisions. the Ford GT, and supplemental replacements are, and will be made at the Ford assembly plant in Wixom, MI (t-bird, LS, town car). so a place to build it already exists, separate to where the cobra, lighning, focus, contour lines were. the REAL reason as to why we wont see a new SVT until 2007 is the demands and requirements needed to create an all new car in 2.5 years. not because of Carol shelby. |
Quote:
is it the long hood and 2 doors? the swooping rear lines? If those are what you mean I could say it's a 612! or 575! maybe a XKR! maybe a Vanquish! or DB7 maybe the AMV8... |
Just my opinion, dude. Obviously any modern sports car has basically the same profile (apart from Porsches), but the front ent of this car reminds me of the DB9.

Someone do some photoshop work and transplant the GT40 nose to the DB9. It will make the Shelby to look exactly like it.
The headlamps, the "feline face", too similar. |
/\/\ Gimme $$ :P
Ok, maybe if you chopped the roof a good 3 inches on that DB9 + replaced the front end with a gt40's... nah, still would look like a Aston. It definetly looks like a Daytona, modernized "a la" GT40. I personally think it looks even better than the GT. |
sadly I still don't see it but whatever. The Ford is definitely wider and lower
|
^^^ i agree, i totally don't see the similarity, but if you still do, let me ask ya this? what's wrong with looking like the aston?
aston is also own by ford too. |
Nothing wrong, even if Ford did not own it.
Don't get me wrong, this Ford Shelby is a great looking car! |
to me it looks like a mix of a older mustang and an older shelby cobra maybe the modern shelby cobra
|
The original Daytona, in case you don't know/remember:
