RC45's Design an Engine Contest.
I would like to hold a "Build an Engine" contest.
We are all car nuts and get all huffy during engine and perfomance debates - so let's out our money where our mouths are. Who can design the "best" engine. This is very subjective of course - so the actual terms of a winner are still under development. Your entry will be the specs of the engine you want to design to put in the real car of your choice. I will atke the specs of the engine and run it through a Dyno-Simulator and your engines power graphs and tables will be judged. Stay tuned for rule adjustments. |

um, im confused. what precise specs do you need?!?! Weight, power, torque!?! Or a lot more detailed info!?

the idea is to design an engine and then he will enter it into the program and out comes your HP and Torque numbers.

well I just posted this up in the other topic just to see how it works out...
OK just for basics to try this thing out Ford 427, 4 valve V8 Methane Turbo at 30psi and a 36 degree overlap, intake 2.0 and exhaust 1.6 compression ratio 11.5:1 hydraulic lifters, racing cam (if available) you can do the little stuff if anything doesn't quite mesh well WTF throw in a 200 shot of nitrous just for kicks Garrett GTP38R turbo with dual 800CFM Holley 4 barrel carbs |

it's pretty impressive how high the torque curve is with NO2 in the beggining than without it

Here's the most detailed engine specs for the enzo i could find, lets see if we can get it as close to the real figure as possible, then we could slap some turbos on it ;) Enzo V12: Ferrari F140 65 degree V12 alloy block and head 5.998 litre/ 355ci Bore: 92mm Stroke: 75.2mm Compression: 11.2:1 4 valves per cyclinder (DOHC) Fuel Feed: Bosch motronic ME7 fuel injection Actual engine figures are 660bhp @ 7800rpm and 657 Nm @5500rpm |
This program seems interesting, although how do you calculate the efficiencies to put into it? Surely they will have a large say on BHP and Torque figures. Isnt 77% bloody high!?

um hey, i got a copy of this program, but it's not dyno2000, it's dyno2003 ;). i'm just messing around wit stuff right now, but can you tell me how to put a supercharger on a ford v8 5l?

lol it's so easy to do, just go to www.proracingsim.com, go to the support page and download the dynoSIM program they have, install it. go to www.astalavista.box.sk, search for dyno, and download the crack there (i only tested the crack that isn't from EMINATOR). even though they're different version, the program works fine for me. just copy the dyno2003.exe into the dynosim directory, and use that exe instead of dynosim.exe

You only have a small sampling of cams and heads flow data. ;) Those iteration tools, cam math and cam manager components are just the tools. You tsill need the data - either of the top of your head (and more power to you if you do it - just be sure to sahre the data file syou make ;)) or you download/purcahse cam, head and flow files :) |

OK for the criteria we could do a racing style engine, a street engine above 3.8 liters and below 3.8 possibly and nothing over an obtainable engine like a V8 or something because using a V12 is stupid because everyone would pick that.
Maybe we could do it with the engine you have and see how much power you can get out of it... just some suggestions. |
I think having classes are a good idea...
Also, for a certain engine size maybe see who can get the most torque... This should be fun, 60 degree V12 6,064cc/369.9ci 4 values, DOHC Naturally Aspirated bore: 86.00mm (3.38") stroke: 87.00mm (3.42") compression ratio: 11:1 max rpm: 8500rpm 93 octane some other stuff, is it useful? 12 single throttle valves, DOHC with continuously variable inlet valve timing and the real stats: 680bhp@7800rpm 520ft-lbs@4500rpm from the McLaren F1 LM :D if anyone else knows more stats, feel free to share |
