The dullest car in the world

I just thought it would be a bit of fun to try and decide the worlds dullest car.

This isn't a poll - just post your suggestion, and if possible a picture, to benefit those of us who aren't up on american cars, or americans who aren't up on european models and vice-versa.

So please post:
 The make and model of car
 If possible a picture
 some performance figures (again if possible)
 and a few choice selections from the equipment list! :P

My choice is the delightful 1989 Nissan Bluebird LS
http://www.autocentre.ua/ac/02/24/im...Primera_18.jpg
The 1.6 Bluebird LS pushes out a mighty 84bhp to the front wheels, but is so unbelievably slow, i couldn't actually find any 0-60 figures.
The spec list is truly awesome though:
-sunshine roof
-electrically operated windows on all sides
-radio/cassette combo
-central locking
-some seats
-a carburettor fed 1600cc engine
-a rev counter

RC45 08-07-2004 03:01 PM

Golf I 1.1l

The original "econobox"

48hp

0-60 just before your final car payment.

Only luxury item self-cancelling turn signals.

Only power accessory - electric starter motor.

Lest people forget - those are the real roots of VW... ;)

All the current Toyotas on sale, except for Celica (pronounced Silika)

crazidude 08-08-2004 02:52 AM

Hrm... I think I'd have to say a Camry. Uninspiring lines and interior. My friend loves it though. We got into a conversation about luxury cars and he said Camry is a good luxury car. I told him that it isn't and he argued back that it is because it has a leather interior lol.

tanelvali 08-08-2004 03:50 AM

Go and try out ZAZ (soviet brand during 1970's) had approx 30 hp.. And ofcource here is Trabant always..

Now you see, trabants arent actually dull, they're made out of cardboard for smeg sake - thats funny, it makes the car interesting in a wierd kinda way.

crazidude - your right on the camry, that thing is blander than wallpaper.

heath 08-08-2004 08:20 AM

The Holden Commodore. Any model.

http://www.autogaleria.sitenet.pl/ta..._2002_01_m.jpg

here's one that looks the same as every single model before it..

its got 4 boring common doors (eh? eh?? c'mon!!)
... I think the flannel shirts and trackie dacks come with the car too...as does the application form for centrelink.

weight = bloody heavy
0-100 = who cares its a commodore
hp = see above

I see roughly 50 to 60 of these things EVERYDAY! They're about as exciting as a sack of soggy weetbix. Why people buy them I don't know...they depreciate faster than you can say "jezuz that car is shit-house"

I'd rather be beaten around the head with a large stick than ever own ones of these things... I've driven the 2003 V8 SS model and well...it was dissapointing to say the least...

i think your friend is smarter than you think :P

with the current camry, change the badges to lexus and voila, a luxury car

just don't tell the enthusiasts

Trabants are so "out of this world" they are cool!
Ladas are the champions of this contest.
Well, after Lotus guys modified one, maybe they got cooler, too!

I know the type, over here in England they mostly drive Vauxhall/Opel Corsa's and the sort.

The old Volvo 850s, and the old S-Class. Just simply boring. The old A6 design was boring as hell too.

I'm with you Tom, on the Econoboxes. I'd have to go one further than the Bluebird, at least the Nissan can be said to be reliable, being the choice of Mini-cab (taxi) drivers in the UK during the 90's even if it is dull as you rightly state. 84hp from a 1.6l motor? Just check out the specs for my choice...

To the readers of JW, I proffer the British Leyland Morris Ital...bastard child of BL and Italdesign...

 Ergonomically designed interior - oh just see the link below, it pains me to write any more about this 'thing'...

Nice choice, but you can get to the point where a car is so shockingly crap, that it actually becomes interesting rather than just dull.

If thats the dullest car you've ever seen you haven't seen many cars. How about an AU Falcon for dull, that was(is) a piece of crap looking car. All those things you stated about the Commodore apply to pretty much every other 4-door sedan in Australia (or the world), e.g. Magna, Falcon, Camry...... If you really have driven the SS please explain why exactly is was so disappointing. :?
What does a centrelink form have to do with the Commodore, if your implying that most Commodore owners are on the dole then you better do some more research....or just think about those POS old rusty Falcons driving around and think where those 'people'(I won't offend anyone so I'll leave it at people) get their income from.

Nooouu! Ladas are exciting:) Old ones are RWD and all you need is a frozen lake to make them go sideways :D And they even had starting crank, that just can't be boring.

Thats my point. I think i'd agree with you, just because a car is really crap that doesnt make itn dull. In fact, the really shit cars are dam intresting - theyre funny almost. Dull cars arent necessarily bad cars, they are just perfectly average at EVERYTHING they do, they are bland. You would notice a really crap car like a lada or a trabant cos they are so woeful, theyre funny, but you wouldnt notice something like a vauxhall corsa or nova, becuase while they might be a reasonable car, they are just dull - no interesting or exciting features whatsoever.

McP 08-13-2004 04:00 AM

It seems I’m the owner of the dullest car ever?!!:
http://home.planet.nl/~nottheone/mydullcar.jpg
My excuse is that I’m tall (1.95 meters = 6 foot 4) and there are very few cars that I fit in comfortably. When I bought it (2000) these cars were on my shortlist: Volvo S80 (too expensive with options included), VW Passat 2.8 (very slow automatic trans., takes about 1 sec to change gear: yes I’m lazy going for an auto.), Camry V6 (….).
I actually like the fact that nobody notices it, have improved the car with 225/45-17inch F1-GSD3, green stuff brake pads, working on lowering /other suspension.
Would like a supercharger, however I would be the first to do that in my country, (maybe even Europe).
Since this year they don’t even sell Camry’s in Europe, there all going to the USA. So now Camry’s are exclusive, just kidding, I’m not that crazy  …..
Thinking of upgrading to a new Subaru Legacy Wagon 3.0R (yes I know dull again :? ).

No RWD car can be classified as dull. It is correct in conception!

I'm not a ford/holden/mistu/toyota bloke, I don't care about which company makes the best or worst car.
This topic is about the dullest car, my opinion is that the holden is the dullest car. I did a test for 2 days last week, I counted every single commodore I saw. I kid you not, on the first day in a 10min period I saw exactly 118 commodores...on the second day I saw on the same stretch of road 78... Now tell me that does not become dull after a few times....I find them dull because I'm jaded by them... and as for the SS I drove, the engine sound was magic, but the heavy body and the dissapointing auto gearbox that didn't know if it was coming or going ruined it for me....and the steering that had little to no actual connection with the wheels... I don't find falcons dull because I don't see that many of them, sure there are HEAPS, but there are just as many corollas or excels...

For me, the holden is the most common and dull car.

dingo 08-17-2004 04:55 AM

Well the fact that the Holden is the most popular (sales wise, and therefore very common on the roads) car tells me it must be doing something right if so many people buy it. I don't really like the normal Commodore (Executive) all that much either but I still wouldn't call it dull, while the sports models (and HSV's) are beautiful cars that perform well.

heath 08-18-2004 08:31 AM

beautiful is a rather descriptive word for a rather plain car...

but each to their own, if we didn't have variety in life we'd all die of boredom. as for performance....well...whatever you reckon...

commodore is a commodore is a commodore, you can't fool me by putting some rims on it and slapping a few badges on the arse end, its still a commodore. SS, HSV, Clubsport, Senator, blah blah blah, whatever...its always gonna share the one badge, commodore which equals boring. The only one I'd ever consider being beautiful in my opinion is the Monaro. But still its a commodore....but somehow a little more refined...anyway, judging by your wife beater VN/VP in your sig there, I don't think you're about to agree with me in a hurry so lets do the old "let by gones be by gones"

Gnome 08-19-2004 03:05 PM

A Saab is way too fun to drive to be boring. Find a twisty road, and try one!

I have to go for the Koreans Hyundai and Kia.

I think the worst current car is The Kia Carnival.
http://www.kia.no/images/carnival_silver_black.jpg
It has horrible performance, even for an asian van, and it is no fun to drive. Another problem is that it only scored two stars (of five possible) in the Euro NCAP crash test. It's less safe than any small car on the market, I think.
