NEW JABBA WIRELESS LAPTOP

Nothing special but its great for browsing JW in the garden. It felt kinda weird though last night uploading videos from outside that are flying through the air over to my router and then onto the JW server.

Not a bad price and I am 100% happy with everything so far.

That's a very nice wireless laptop. I'm also thinking of buying one, because it sound nice to be able to browse jabbasworld in the garden on a sunny day like this..

Jabba 08-05-2004 08:00 AM

Yes that was my thinking...it seemed a shame to be inside on a nice sunny day...now I am all set for outdoor use I bet it rains non stop.

Daggernite 08-05-2004 08:02 AM

Nice, the laptop is looking real nice, and having wireless connection must be great when you can go where ever you want in the house, or garden :)

EDIT- just relised my post was zactly same as ghostbat, it was a coincidence, just thought id say, dont want ppl thinking i dont read the reply's  must of wrote it at same time.

Jabba 08-05-2004 08:12 AM

Its ok...kinda cool that we are all thinking of the same benefits for it....maybe they should promote that benefit more in their product advertising.

I think that's a good idea because most people have a stationary pc for normal indoor use.

mindgam3 08-05-2004 08:25 AM

Nice laptop ;) We've got a wireless network in our house n my dad reguarly uses it for his work etc on his laptop. I have yet to get a laptop though so no browsing in the garden for me just yet :( hopefully gonna be an apple powerbook

Indeed...I also have pc anywhere running on my other PC's so I have full control over those as well...its pretty good for keeping an eye on videos being encoded ready for uploading to JW.

sikx5 08-05-2004 09:18 AM

Thats a nice lappy jabba, pitty your not a apple man, cause apple are leading the way in Laptops 8)

Daggernite 08-05-2004 09:54 AM

I do have a laptop but my sister knocked it off the table 3 weeks after i bought it :( I had the whole wireless idea goin on aswell  But shit happens. I thought it was ok, but it started turning off after about an hour of use, so I took it apart thinkin I could fix it, but when i put it back toether again all i get is a slight clicking noise  I cant get it replaced cuz i got it off ebay.
Jabba do not put your laptop anywhere near kids! thats my advise :!:

Anonymous 08-05-2004 10:06 AM

Indeed very cool, surfing in the garden :D exactly what we're gonna set up in our student house in september, of course thats purely for work purposes :P  As for the laptop indeed a bargain IMO , its practically the same spec as mine which a paid £1300 in september for, only problem was the company (multivision) went bust, thats how they could sell me the spec so cheap:
my laptop spec
2.8 ghz
1GB of Ram
2x dvd writer
64MB ati 9000 graphics
60gb hard drive
Oh and i free usb memory thing that broke

saadie 08-05-2004 11:03 AM

i hate M type processors ... they make me go :x ..... anyways its too hard to get a laptop without M type processors .. anywayz .... its really nice ... 8) 8)

Yes that is what happened to my first laptop...someone knocked it off the desk and broke the screen off it...it still works but its in two pieces now.

My sister had the same problem with her toshiba shutting down...it has thermal protection on it that shuts it down whenever it gets too hot....clearing some space around the rear vent sorted the problem out and its been fine ever since.

gis 08-05-2004 11:52 AM

nice laptop jabba, nice PC setup for indoors and now u have one on the move.

nice purchase mate :D

TT 08-05-2004 11:57 AM

Nice laptop and to surf wireless is so cool! In my mother's house they just did it some months ago and it's almost impossible to believe! :D

evoWalo 08-05-2004 12:00 PM

The thing's HUGE. Why not a Centrino? You dont have to have soemthing hanging out on the side and it does WiFi & performance better.

Jabba 08-05-2004 12:06 PM

For what I want it for...its fine....it already overkill in a lot of respects.

For £900? Jabbas looks pretty nicely specced for the price

Jabba 08-05-2004 12:07 PM

Yep...exactly....I hate wasting money on things that I wont get any benefit from.

evoWalo 08-05-2004 12:11 PM

Just to get a better idea. How much are the cheapest laptop in the UK? I've been hearing from friends that England's really expensive and when I convert it I get sticker shock.

TT 08-05-2004 12:12 PM

Yes I always wondered why a laptop should be as small as possible LOL.. I actually hate when they are too small :?

You would CRY if you saw the phone I use...its the size and weight of a house brick...it makes calls just fine though....and thats why it suits me....and thats why I still have it and wont be changing it for anything else.

Hahaha... I saw what you drive and I agree with your priorities. I'd stick with an abacus if it got me a better car. ;) People around here are obsessed with the latest gadgetry and often forget to get a ride most people will drool over. :)

:? post a pic of yer phone

Jabba 08-05-2004 12:23 PM

Why so you can make fun of it ?

saadie 08-05-2004 12:26 PM

lol .... no ...
comeon please
i dont even have a phone of my own ... lol

Jabba 08-05-2004 12:30 PM

I have only used it on the mains supply so far (and probably only ever will)....yes even when in the garden.

evoWalo 08-05-2004 12:36 PM

Considering Jabba's priorities it's a good laptop. Heck it's a Toshiba. Pretty good brand for portables.

saadie 08-05-2004 12:36 PM

hey jabba ..... how much is the clock speed right now ... cuz the problem with m type processors is it runs at a low frequency ... it only increases when applications need more
speed ....... and when the speed is increasing or decreasing .... some applications crash ....

Jabba 08-05-2004 12:40 PM

Well I wouldnt use it for anything heavy...just controlling the other PC's that do all the hard work.

To be honest even this one is a bit overkill for me..but for the price it seemed pretty good value.

saadie 08-05-2004 12:51 PM

well yup the price is nice ...... anywayz post a pic of eyr phone .... :P

evoWalo 08-05-2004 12:59 PM

Jabba you using VNC?

Jabba 08-05-2004 01:16 PM

Nope/Yes...PC Anywhere.

sentra_dude 08-05-2004 02:25 PM

Nice laptop Jabba...I love mine, got it about a year ago and I use it almost everyday, only thing is I wish I had a bit bigger hard drive (mine's only 55gb) but other than that its great to just pick up and surf the internet from different rooms in the house 8).

Congratulations on the new purchase!

SFDMALEX 08-05-2004 02:33 PM

Nice purchase Jabba. A good laptop is a great thing to have. Especialy with a house like yours. Just get rid of those stickers and its going to be even better :)

For what you need it its indeed an overkill machine. And a DVD-RW on it......drool...

SDK2003 08-05-2004 02:58 PM

pfffft, alright for some getting spangley new Laptops :D
I will keep my eyeout for a roaming connection if I'm passing  :P

Chaos in 1983! 08-05-2004 04:29 PM

wow that's cool...my father has just one like it, only without the DVD-RW, and they installed all the wireless stuff at work so it makes a perfect combo...Toshibas are really nice...I wish I had the money to buy a new comp, and if I did it would be a toshiba laptop...

Xploded 08-05-2004 10:48 PM

Wow man thats a really nice laptop you have your self there, im looking at buying one for me self pritty soon ....... just really going though what I want and there a few I like just gotta pick which one is best for the job he he.

Well have fun with your new toy man he he :D :D :D

PATo355 08-05-2004 11:37 PM

Its a pretty good bargain , and as for the Centrino option i think if Jabba is using it mainly in the outdoors of his house 3 hours of time is enuf , he has pc inside his home and in the office so for the P4M being considerably cheaper than the Centrinos ( at least here centrinos are 30% more expensive ) , 899 for that setup is very cheap .

crazidude 08-06-2004 12:22 AM

Nice laptop. Does it weigh less than the brick phone? I haven't seen one of those in ages. Everyone uses the smallest phone possible nowadays with the camera on it.

saadie 08-06-2004 02:10 AM

^^ haha ... naaw man ..... lappy is heavier ...

Jabba 08-06-2004 04:39 AM

Here is the much talked about phone...yes we know its crap...but it has alot of sentimental memories for me.

evoWalo 08-06-2004 04:49 AM

I used to have that phone. Nokia 3210 isnt it?

itsthepham 08-06-2004 04:51 AM

Jabba I love the new Lap top. I'm looking into getting a Toshiba soon. Since i will be starting school soon anyhow. Love the specs. You have nothing but the best. :D

saadie 08-06-2004 05:20 AM

Jabba 08-06-2004 05:25 AM

Well its very bruised and battered but extremely reliable...and I don't have to worry about anyone wanting to rob me for it...as they would probably feel sorry for me having a phone like that....LOL...

saadie 08-06-2004 05:42 AM

hehe ........ ya know when ya said brick phone i though ya had one of those hi tech phones with a gps satnav , pda, camera, mp3 player etc etc :P :P :D

but still i'd like a lil nokia more then tht ^^ .....

evoWalo 08-06-2004 07:32 AM

I had to give up mine after the LCD died. T9 was pretty primitive.
