http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4286205211

There, are some hugh photos of my gear and some of my mates. enjoy

corvette97 07-17-2004 10:31 AM

all of the guitars are yours? wow they are nice
+ the premier drumset its really really nice, and the sabians, are those HHX or HH?
i want a premier, but i only have my stupid Tama, with my bpro sabians

cho_888 07-17-2004 08:16 PM

that is my brothers kit, it is an artist series and they are HHX. 4 of the guitars are mine and i have a brand new 6-string on the way. One of the marshell amps is my the other is my mates

nthfinity 07-17-2004 10:15 PM

it appears you have 2 taylors, a strat imitation (judging by the pickups) and a heavy rocking ibenez of one sort or another (yeah ibenez is the easy one to pick out :) ) nice set, i only have 2 good guitars myself, and 2 'trainers' (my first guitar, and a good slide electric guitar that i have to re work the tuning nuts, the bridge, etc.

per my primary style electric is marshall all the way :) (although i dont own a stack yet)

how long have you been playing cho?? im going on my 4th year right now.

id like to get a new guitar soon... but im unsure what i really want. SRV fender with... a gibson les paul... i think those two are the ones i flock to the most.

jpatino03 07-18-2004 12:47 AM

Another Ibanez man! Nice choice, Cho! What model RG's are those? What pickups are you rocking? I'll try to get some pics of my collection up as soon as I can, can't let myself fall behind!

nthfinity: If anything get the Strat (IMO there are better ones than the SRV one). I have a Gibson Les Paul Standard, and I can tell you that its probably the biggest mistake I've made in my life, it sounds awful, weighs a ton, is really uncomfortable to play and has TERRIBLE build quality.
If you're going for that price range, have you ever considered an Ibanez Jem or Satriani model? Next time you're at a guitar store, try one, you might be pleasantly surprised at how easily it plays compared to anything else, and how powerful the pickups are. (mind you, only the expensive, made in Japan Ibanez's are worth it, the Korean ones aren't anything to write home about).
Anyway, these are just friendly suggestions from someone who's been playing a long time, play as many guitars as you can until you find one that you REALLY like, after all, no two strats sound alike.

cho_888 07-18-2004 02:25 AM

I wouldnt go a les paul, but an RG series. There is a 320QS and a 570 both with flyd rose's. My 570 has v8 bridge s1 single coil and v7 neck. they sound great and i couldn't be happier. the 320QS is my freiends and goes well. I have been playing for about 5 years.
As for Les Paul's unless you can get an orininal for the first one or two years of production and you ahve a quartre of a million to spend on it, i wouldnt bother. Poor built quality that dosnt resemble the early models that built the reputation.

that acustic is a cole clark a new australia company however i have my dream guitar coming in a few weeks, it is a maton messiah it retails for about $4000 here. The Strat squire isnt mine either i'm am not at all a fender fan.

hey cool we got some guitarists on here!

I just bought the new VOX Valvetronix ad120vtx and I play thru either my Ibanez RGT42 or my RG420 custom* (*don't ask, its a long story) at the moment I've got 5 guitars all up, but at one stage I had 7 of the little buggers....so many stands...and string off cuts....

oh hey anyone wanna buy a ZOOM 9050 in mint condition? or a Behringer FCB1010 midi controller? I don't need em now I've got the VOX....

jpatino03 07-18-2004 11:37 AM

Thats an absolutely beautiful guitar Cho! I know what it feels like to waiting on your new baby that you've worked so hard for, and those first few hours are really magical. You'll have to upload some clips of how it sounds once you get it!

Heath: lol I know what you mean, I've got 7 in the stable right now, and the cost and time it takes to maintain them is running me into the ground.

its quite dificult for me to nail down who i think is the best...
best overall talent ?????
best metal Kirk Hamet overall... but current winner is Adrian Smith (iron maiden)
best shred/virtuoso Yngwie malmsteen, or Michael Angelo... Jason Becker
best blues overall ???
best lighning blues SRV
best acustic blues Lightnin Hopkins
best slide blues. R L Burnside

best progressive rock? poco de lucia :) (i dont think he is human)

i think you may get the idea... but there are so many talented, i cant nail down who 'is' the best

im not looking for a standard 500$ les paul... if i wanted something without the soul of a guitar, id pick up a PRS for the science of guitar.

ive probobly played about 500 different guitars in my life, and i have quite an ear for the tone i look for in guitars. Fender is by far the most compfortable guitar, and is an amazing weapon in the arsenal of styles.

japanese ibenz guitars are good, but the something is lacking, and i have no want for locking nuts to over stress the tone.
something that has set me apart from other guitarists is my entirely costom mexican Fender Strat. scalloped neck, yngwie style neck pickup (duncon) tex mex mid, and seymore duncan dubble coil hotrail wired as a single coil for kicking your ass shred bridge pickup.

right now i have it apart for some electrical fine tuning, but when its back together, ill share some photos.

cho_888 07-18-2004 05:45 PM

ok first of all who taught kirt hammet, joe satriani. obviously he is going to be better. then there is steve vai yngwie malmsteen ect, you are missing a be world of solo guitarist. if you guys want i got a g3 dvd i can upload

jpatino03 07-18-2004 07:13 PM

Vai and Satriani are both pretty good, but Shawn Lane destroys all of them. IMO Kirk Hammett is pretty boring and not all that technically brilliant, almost all his solos are pentatonic, and he hides behind his wah and distortion a lot.

nthfinity: A Les Paul Standard is more in the $1700-$2000 range. And I agree with you on the Sratocaster, its very comfortable, playable and versatile; My #2 is an american standard strat. I just like the Ibanez more because its even more comfortable and infinitely more playable (You can set the action much lower and still get good tone). I've also found a solution to the Floyd Rose tone problem: Have you ever tried a fat finger? They really work.

cho_888 07-19-2004 01:43 AM

i was thinking about getting a hipshot tremsetter what is a fat finger i have never heard of them. If you are looking at that kind of money then i would go for a JEM or RG custom, they look sick. Hey people we should get some clips of people playing up here

jpatino03 07-19-2004 02:11 AM

As soon as I can get something recorded, I'll have one up!

A Fat Finger is basically a small piece of fairly heavy metal that clamps on to the headstock, this reduces the overall vibration of the neck, thus allowing the strings to vibrate more freely. I use one on my JEM and Stratocaster. Not only is the tone improved, it doubles sustain, makes harmonics a lot clearer and louder, and kills any dead spots you may have on the neck.

cho_888 07-19-2004 02:19 AM

you have a JEM wow, thats cool. I think that will be my next investment. Is there much difference between the JEM and an RG. Is it worth the cash? Is your JEM an jem7vwh? with the tree of life down the neck! i want pics! and a custom shot

fabro_s 07-19-2004 03:23 PM

Nice guitars dude, congrats they are beautiful!

cho_888 07-19-2004 05:31 PM

this is a clip of my slef playing from a while ago, quality is terrible but its all i have

http://www.terahertzcomputing.com/uploads/solo.rar

jpatino03 07-20-2004 12:50 AM

Not Bad!
I have the Jem7DBK, IMO better pickups than the Evolutions, and the neck is better than the VWH (2mm thinner). The philips head inlays are actually pretty cool, and you don't look like a total Vai-wannabe when you play it. As for a custom pic, I'll get one up as soon as I can, but my guitar is in Los Angeles, and I am in Athens, so it won't be 'till august, unless I can get my friend who is watching my guitars to take it.
As for the differences with the RG, the back of neck feels a little smoother, the fretwork is also much higher quality (the neck is incredibly fast), and the DiMarzio Breed pickups are EONS ahead of the Ibanez units, much more detailed tone and a lot hotter.

Right now, this is the only pic I got.

cho_888 07-20-2004 01:49 AM

nice, so do you play through a fender amp?

jpatino03 07-20-2004 02:12 AM

Only because its the only one I have (everytime I have enough money for a better amp, I end up buying a guitar instead), I'd rather have a Mark IV or JCM800 stack.

cho_888 07-20-2004 03:02 AM

yeah, i use a AVT100 it has a valve pre amp, and solid state effects and they sound great.

jpatino03 07-20-2004 10:48 PM

How's the power? is it enough to have onstage with a whole band?

cho_888 07-21-2004 02:26 AM

oh yeah plenty but i 275 would be nice i think, because of the acustic simulator.

this is for you jpatino03

jpatino03 07-22-2004 02:59 AM

Impressive! The 5th Caprice is pretty hard, especially the sweeping thing at the begginning. I'm more of an octodigital tapping guy than a sweeping guy (Read: I can't sweep worth shit). I'm gonna see if one of my friends has a digicam or webcam so I can show you what I mean, though It'll have to be on the strat. Once I have the video where can I get it hosted?

cho_888 07-22-2004 03:50 AM

send it to me :D i want to get a music section started or something and i now have a bit of space although no FTP we will firgure something out. I have improved on that song alot since the one on the video. I have heaps of eric clapton, vai, satriani G3 and random music clips if you want me to put them up for download

nthfinity 07-22-2004 10:02 AM

so, are you a fan of the yngwie transcription of the 5th, Jason Becker's 5th, or Steve Vai's 5th? i lean towareds Jason becker myself... that guy was beyond a god :)

cho, your a sweeper!!?? i ve only known 2 people near my age who can sweep!!! (including myself) i never thought it hard to hit the sweeping arpeggios... and it induces a very intersting sound by itself :)

jpatino: yes, im quite familiar with flat finger, and it does help... tremendously.

jpatino03 07-22-2004 04:56 PM

Well, I'm gonna go play with my old band later today, and we might be filming. If we do, I'll get it up ASAP. Tell me how you want me to send you the vids. Also, I'd be more than willing to help out with the music section. Right now I've Vai's live at the Astoria DVD, as well as some Dream Theater, Yes, and Pink Floyd DVD's that I could rip, I've also got G3, but you already have it.

cho_888 07-22-2004 07:34 PM

I have just ordered life at Astonia, is it good? nthfinity i came across that piece in the movie crossroads so steve vai. I am thinking about making my own music webpage, i have a domain name and space so if you guys want to help with that be more than welcome. jpatino03 do you have msn, if not you should get it.

nthfinity 07-22-2004 10:09 PM

intruiging :)

crossroads is a good film, i hope youve seen the entire flick :) (karate kid lmao)

another good virtuoso film i have ripped is an interesting film of a piano player called "the legend of 1900" quite enjoyable Jazz/Ragtime duel that i greatly apprecated with so many layers of music... minor harmonics, conjoined with penetonics, dorian modes etc. all overlayed on a chromatic climax... im getting carried away lol

cho_888 07-22-2004 10:15 PM

lol very nice, no i havnt seen the whole movie i only have the segment that i found on kazaa after mate mate told me to see it. Do you have a full copy?

nthfinity 07-22-2004 10:16 PM

Quote:

me to see it. Do you have a full copy?
unfortunately not... i can get a vhs of it, but i dont have the equipment nessisary to rip from vhs... i could mail it...

jpatino03 07-22-2004 10:17 PM

Live at Astoria is pretty good, Dave Weiner's solo piece is pretty impressive, and Bad Horsie is just RIDICULOUS (its almost spinal tap-esque). I used to have MSN before my HD died, but I never used it that much, so I never bothered to reinstall it, I will though.

Edit: Crossroads really isn't that good of a movie, just the duel at the end is pretty cool.

cho_888 07-22-2004 10:18 PM

lol, you could mail it if you wanted to go through the trouble that would be great but dont stress. i cannot find the VHS any where. BTW how are your HTML skills? can you design web pages. there are a lot of smart people on here

I cannot wait until mine comes, it was surposed to come several weeks ago but there was adelay. Yeah if you all get MSN it will be alit easier to chat and we can have a jam through a voice convosation which is fun

nthfinity 07-22-2004 10:23 PM

well, my html skills suck. quite aptly... i cant write it, but i can read it adiquately.

i have some programs that help, however.
adobe golive, dreamweaver, ms frontpage.

cho_888 07-22-2004 10:24 PM

yeah i have dreamweaver, and its ok and front page. If you have any photos of your guitars and stuff i will put them up and try and ad them into the design

nthfinity 07-22-2004 10:26 PM

awsome... i must say tho... my baby is currently not quite up to par... ill still take a photo of it. she's missing strings, and her faceplate electronics (in kalamazoo still  )

cho_888 07-22-2004 10:28 PM

I spend a fortune on strings, 5x$25AUS its killing me

nthfinity 07-22-2004 10:32 PM

Quote:

5x? 5 sets of 6 strings for 25$? thats about the same here

i Elicitly buy Fender Bullets 8 guage (.08 high E) for tonal quality under fender style conditions, and 8's for super-high speed :-D

cho_888 07-22-2004 10:37 PM

i use d'addario 9's they have great tonal quality and now that my action is nice at low they are just as fast for me. they strings that sting me are the ones for my 12 string

nthfinity 07-23-2004 10:55 PM

scalloped frets! Yngwie all the way! how does it play i really want to try one of them , dose it feel odd? Nice collection of guitars. What do you play through? BTW my Steve vai live at Astoria arived today

thankyou :)
its totally different; but i have grown quite fond of its sound. slurs are quite profound, bends become extraordinary, depressions are something else all together! taps are a bit different feel, and if you wish, can sound different. i would suggest that the largest advantage/difference is in the control of the strings.

i have a vintage Kasino amp that is currently on loan in Marcellus, MI... i hope to have it back in a week.
i have a dunlop crybaby, and a boss metalzone. i would like to get a digital delay pedal.

cho_888 07-24-2004 09:44 AM

yeah my amp has built in effects and they sound great and i am really happy with my distortion but i want a cry baby, they are so much fun! YOur guitar is really nice get it strung up and post a recording!
